BEFORE you write your next essay.

You have just learned that your friend has recently become engaged.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter

● tell him/her how you found out
● explain how you feel about the news
● organise to meet your friend for a celebration.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ___________,

Dear Sam,

I am writing this letter to congratulate you for on your engagement.

You know what? Today This morning, when I was scrolling through my Instagram, I
came across your post, and from there I got to know about your ring ceremony. I
rechecked checked it again to see if it was some prank or something as because I
couldn’t believe it on the first go the first time I saw it.

At first, I was shocked to see that she is she’s one of our classmates whom you used to
like in high school. I am I’m really very happy for you that you chose her as because you
know her completely really well. According to me I think it’s a perfect match.

I am I’m planning to visit Delhi next weekend, so, I hope if you could you’ll be able to
spare some free time as I want a grand party from you so we can celebrate together. It’s
been months since I haven’t seen you I last saw you, and moreover I don’t think there
can be another better reason for us to meet and celebrate.

Dear Amelda,

Congratulations! I just learned that you’ve gotten engaged to Liam.

I actually found out from Annie yesterday while I was shopping in Tesco’s, and we
bumped into each other by chance. I was asking how you’re getting on with the new job
and, of course, that led to the story about Liam popping the question and you accepting.

Obviously, I’m absolutely delighted to hear about this. I’ve known both of you since
before you were even girlfriend and boyfriend, so to find out that you’re tying the knot
makes me all excited, and I can already imagine how beautiful your babies will be
whenever the time comes.

I’d love for us to meet up and have a little celebration for your engagement. I know you
haven’t told many people yet, so even if it’s just the two of us, we could go out for dinner
and a few glasses of wine. I’ll be free on Thursday evening, so you can call over to my
place first, and we can head out from there.

Congratulations again and I look forward to getting your reply.
