Fairy Tale Narrative

Everyone knows what fairy tales are whether they are old or new. Some portray love and

can give you a good message. While others show violence and can corrupt the mind of children.

An example of this is The Princess Bride which shows true love between two characters and a

forest with mysterious creatures. This fairy tale also has violence which can scare your child.

Although parents think that fairytales are helpful for kids there are dark secrets behind them

which the developers hide from the viewers.

My first reason why I think fairy tales are nightmares because some have violence in

their story. For example The Princess Bride shows a lot of violence which for kids it can be too

much for kids minds. Children can have nightmares by watching these kinds of fairy tales and

can also be influenced by this and hurt others or themselves in the process.

My second and final reason why fairy tales are a nightmare for children are because most

fairy tales can be gender stereotypical. For example in The Princess Bride the protagonist

Westley saves the girl that he loves from a prince who wants to marry her. In this fairy tale and

others too it always shows the man saving the women from a prince who wants to marry her and

shows that women can’t stand up for themselves and defend themselves.

In conclusion some fairy tales such as The Princess Bride can have a bad impact on the

mind of younger kids and future generations to come. Nowadays kids can be more exposed to
worse fairy tales and can traumatize little kids because they have easier access to the internet.

Fairy tales are also very stereotypical and can make people think differently about themselves

especially kids.
