There are several Internet of Technology (IoT) devices, such as smart white boards, smart
temperature sensors, smart student ID cards, wireless door locks, surveillance cameras,
that can be adapted into education. These devices can track students’ activities and
eventually bring teachers deeper understanding of their students, which, in turn, can
affect teaching methods. IoT systems also reduce energy consumption through automated
operations management. However, the brochure also mentions challenges of this new
technology, such as network resources and data security. This brochure is useful as it
suggests the future structure of smart education and positive results in education and

Virtual Academic Communities is an online classroom that everyone can join anytime
anywhere. The article suggests an adapted architecture using IoT devices and how the
devices can bring a better educational environment to both students and teachers. The
Integration of objects to the VAC can create compelling interaction because it provides
more variety of data instead of students performing manually with physical objects. The
results from this study are useful because they show that using IoT devices in education
can bring more interaction and engagement between teachers and students and also help
about the different types of objects that can be used in VAC and the types of layers that

Classrooms with electronic devices can bring more interactive and positive effects to both
teachers and students in academic areas. However, schools have encouraged students to
bring their own electronic devices to school. IoT devices at school help students to access
information and learn. Students then have opportunities to interact and connect with their
learning through IoT devices. The paper presents information about several micro-boards,
such as Arudino and Raspberry Pi, that students can use to program and activate easily
with educational materials. By using these types of devices, students can be familiar with
future technologies. This article explains why IoT devices can be beneficial to students.
This article adds to my research because it provides evidence that IoT devices can
provide a high quality education to students. It also is useful because it states that IoT
students can adapt to new types of technologies and can be helpful for future students
Pierce, D. (2016). How the internet of things will impact schools. T H E Journal, 43(6), 20-21.
The purpose of the article is to explain that schools should be prepared to integrate IoT
into education. Currently, there are some IoT devices that can be found in schools such as
surveillance cameras, HVAC systems and wearable devices. Students can access a
variety of information through IoT devices; however, parents, from the perspective of
guardians, are concerned about collecting students’ data. This journal shows that there are
still adversities to face, especially in data security and network. Nevertheless, the article
clearly articulates how IoT is already benefiting students around the world and how IoT

This article shows the usage of IoT devices in schools and how it can be used. In
Colorado ‘s Adams 12 Five Star Schools, they adapted RFID card systems to track student’s
location. The system can cover “11000 kids who ride one of 163 buses.” When students ride on
the bus and scan their card, the system time-stamps through GPS and is able to locate where they
get on and leave. Also, IoT devices can create educational environments in schools. At the
library in St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesvilles, there are several Google Home speakers
on the shelf. The purpose of Google Home speakers is for students to ask questions about what
they want to know. It helps students to access academic or non-academic questions. IoT devices
can bring more safety to students and a sense of stability to parents. Furthermore, IoT devices
