“For in him all things were created: things in usp=sharing
heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things
have been created through him and for him. He is
before all things, and in him all things hold
together.”
(Colossians 1:16-17)
● God is the creator of everything. God created
the entire world, including us. There’s nothing
that exists (apart from himself) that he did not
create. He is our designer and the source of
purpose in the universe.
“The LORD has made everything for its purpose,
even the wicked for the day of trouble.”
MANILA CATHEDRAL SCHOOL
PAASCU Accredited Level II
287 Tayuman St., Tondo, Manila

(Proverbs 16:4)
● God declares the purpose for creation. Nothing
is an accident with God. Nothing was created
without a purpose. That includes us. For the
righteous, God’s purpose is reconciliation with
himself and a destiny in his kingdom. For the
wicked, God gives futility and a destiny of
destruction. In both cases, God declares the
purpose or meaning of your life.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me
will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of
life.”
(John 8:12)
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the
life. He who believes in me will live, even though he
dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will
never die.”
(John 11:25-26)
● Meaning and destiny are found in Jesus Christ.
In darkness, people don’t understand their
own meaning. But Jesus promises to give the
light of life (in other words “the meaning of
life”) to those who follow him. Christ’s followers
will understand the meaning of life.

II. Sacredness of Human Life

➢ The Catholic Church believes that
“human life is sacred and that the dignity
of the human person is the foundation of
a moral vision for society. A belief that
every person is precious, that people are
more important than things, and that
the measure of every institution is
whether it threatens or enhances the life
and dignity of the human person.”

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very

good. And there was evening, and there was
morning – the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

before you were born I set you apart; I appointed
you as a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5
MANILA CATHEDRAL SCHOOL
PAASCU Accredited Level II
287 Tayuman St., Tondo, Manila

➢ US Conference of Catholic Bishops

(USCCB), states that the Church teaches
us that “As a gift from God, every human
life is sacred from conception to natural
death. The life and dignity of every
person must be respected and protected
at every stage and in every condition. The
right to life is the first and most
fundamental principle of human rights
that leads Catholics to actively work for a
world of greater respect for human life
and greater commitment to justice and
peace.”

III. Right to Life

➢ Individual Right - rights to become fully
human. (Civil Rights)
➢ Natural Right - refer to the rights given to all
humans, simply for the sake of being human.
● Universal Declaration of Human Rights
○ Article 3: Everyone has the right to life,
liberty and security of person.
○ Article 6: Everyone has the right to
recognition everywhere as a person
before the law.
● Bill of Rights
○ Section 1: No person shall be deprived
of life, liberty, or property without due
process of law, nor shall any person be
denied the equal protection of the
laws.

IV. Issues

● War and Terrorism

● Death Penalty
● Suicide

V. 6 Actions that Support Sacredness of

Human Life

1. Recognize where life began.

2. Choose Life
3. Commemorate Life Events
4. Appreciate Life’s Priceless Value
5. Speak Up for Life
MANILA CATHEDRAL SCHOOL

6. Protect Those Who Are Weak in Life

To wrap up our discussion as Pope John Paul II said

“Human persons are willed by God; they are
imprinted with God's image. Their dignity does not
come from the work they do, but from the persons
they are.”
