Welcome!

This year, your child will apply to middle school, and this letter will help you get started. Our team is here to
support you and your child’s current school with middle school admissions.

Your child can apply to up to 12 middle school programs with one personalized application. Throughout this
process, you will use one website, MySchools.nyc. Please note that MySchools and your NYC Schools
Account (NYCSA) are separate websites; you will use separate accounts to log in to each one:

You’ll use MySchools (MySchools.nyc) this year to explore middle school options, submit your child’s
application, receive your middle school offer, and get waitlist information.
You’ll use NYCSA (MyStudent.nyc) during each school year to see your child’s grades, attendance,
fitness results, and schedule, as well as get emergency alerts and school-specific updates.

Right now, you can...

1. Sign up for our middle school admissions email list at schools.nyc.gov/SignUp. We’ll send you
admissions tips and updates, including when the middle school application period will open and close.
2. Set up your MySchools account at MySchools.nyc. Here’s how:

Click or tap “Get Started.” Follow the on-screen instruction. Then check your email for a message from
MySchools. In that email, click the link to access your MySchools account. Once you’ve created a
password, write it here for your reference: My password is ______________________.
Click “Add a child” to connect your child to your account. On the next screen, enter your child’s 9-digit
student ID number (OSIS). You can find this ID number on their report card or request it from their
current school.
Enter your child’s unique MySchools Account Creation Code, shown below. (Not the same as your
NYCSA code)

Your Account Creation Code: FHZBHF

Do not share this code with anyone and keep it in a safe place. If you have more than one child applying to
school this year, you will get one letter like this for each child. If you need to access your child’s records but
are not the parent/guardian addressed in this letter, please contact your child’s school or call 718-935-2009.

3. Use MySchools to explore schools and programs

Log in to your MySchools account and click the Search tab to access your child’s personalized version
of the middle school directory. This personalized version will include only the middle school programs
that your child can list on their application. Eligibility to most programs is based on your child’s home
address and, if different, where they attend elementary school.
Search for schools or offerings you’d want in a school, like "soccer.”
Narrow your search by building accessibility, subway, school size, and more.
Click the name f any school to learn more about it.
Follow links to explore schools’ websites and learn about any virtual events or open houses.
Save favorites by clicking the stars next to their names.

4. Learn about middle school admissions at schools.nyc.gov/middle. Watch videos, find out how
offers are made, and get all the latest updates.

When the middle school application opens, you can...

1. Continue to explore programs!

2. Add up to 12 program choices to your application in your true order of preference, with your first
choice as #1.
3. Submit your application one of three ways:

Online with MySchools.nyc—don’t forget to click “Submit Application”!

Through your child’s current school.
Through a Family Welcome Center—see link below.

Questions? Talk to your school counselor, call us at 718-935-2009, or get support from a Family Welcome
Center—learn to contact a Family Welcome Center at schools.nyc.gov/FWC.

Wishing you and your child a rewarding school year,
