1. Text-to-Text: How do the ideas in this text remind you of another text (story, book, movie,
song, etc)? Complete one of the following statements:

What I just read reminds me of last letter from your lover (movie) because it recounts the tale of
Jennifer Stirling, the affluent industrialist's wife, and her passionate love with unstable foreign journalist Anthony
O'Hare. Circumstances and social tradition combine to keep them apart, despite their love. In the narrative,
Lawrence Stirling discovers his wife's infidelity after seeing Anthony's letter to Jennifer. Laurence took advantage
of his wife's amnesia as a result of a vehicle accident and kept the letter hidden from her. Later, when Jennifer
rediscovered her feelings for Anthony, she pursued him. Before the car accident happened with Jennifer, Anthony
give choice to jennifer to ran away with him, making the woman leave her life with her husband. After jennifer’s
recovery from amnesia, she pursued him to the train station and finally decided to go with him. However, life
does not happen as what the lovers wanted it to be.

2. Text-to-Self: How do the ideas in this text relate to your own life, ideas, and experiences? Complete one of the
following statements:

I don’t agree with what I just read because, as an adolescent, we were taught that before marrying,
we should be financially and emotionally solid. Financial stability is necessary so that we do not rely on our
relationships and are not deceived by their money. Before beginning a relationship, one should be
emotionally secure and love oneself first. Both parts must be there since, in the end, you will be the loser.
In the instance of Anna, she hurried into marriage believing that the man she married was affluent, Levin,
who seems odd to the general public. But, after meeting someone new and realizing that her marriage was
not her true love, she began an affair with Vronsky. However, Vronsky was not as pleased as he expected
to be with Anna. Anna felt socially shunned and envious of Vronsky, and their relationship worsened as a
result. It becomes too much for Anna, and in desperation, she leaps in front of a train, regretting her
decision at the last second. Anna lacked emotional stability and eventually lost herself.
3. Text-to-World: How do the ideas in this text reading relate to the larger world—past,
present and future. Complete one of the following statements:
What I just read makes me think about divorce in the Philippines because there is
no divore in the Philippines under the Family Code which allows only the declaration
of nullity of marriage on the ground, among others, of psychological incapacity
minority, lack of a marriage license, and multiple marriages.

Divorce is allowed in limited instances under P.D. NO. 1083. The law provides
for the creation of Sariah courts in the Philippines and allowed for divorce among
Muslims, or when the husband is Muslim, and the marriage was celebrated under
Muslim rites. This law is the only divorce law in the Philippines and remains in full
force and effect.
