Q&A with Freshman Yunjeong Lee

Archana Manoj: How has your life changed since moving to Texas from Wisconsin?
Yunjeong Lee: There were a lot of changes like the fact that there’s so many more things here and it’s
bigger and it's so busy for me. Like our school, back in Wisconsin, our middle school had 300 kids and the
middle school here has 1,000 kids and the high school there has 1,000 kids and the high school here has
3,000 almost 4,000 kids. It’s just a bigger city so you don’t know everyone but in Wisconsin you knew
everyone so its a bigger environment and there’s a lot more things to do which is nice.
Archana Manoj: How is the school system different from Texas and Wisconsin?
Yunjeong Lee: I feel like, I don’t know if this is just my school but my school the break is kind of shorter. We
start school in September instead of August and we end school in June instead of in May. Our winter breaks
were shorter. Overall, I think Witinal was much more of an easier school. Sorry, my school was an easier
school. We didn’t have finals, we got to redo tests however many times we needed to so it was just an
easier environment but that also meant that I wasn’t getting the most out of it.
Archana Manoj: How long was your winter break?
Yunjeong Lee: It was about, not even 10 days. A week maybe, it was really short.
Archana Manoj: How are you still getting used to the weather and lifestyle?
Yunjeong Lee: Especially the weather, its so different its like here in Texas we have like 5 months of
summer and basically in Wisconsin we have 5 months of winter. I’m really not used to the heat yet and I
really don’t like getting tan which is a bad thing. I really miss the snow and snow is so pretty like when
everything is white and so bright it's so pretty so I do miss that.
Archana Manoj: Do you have any pets?
Yunjeong Lee: No not right now but I used to have a lot of small pets you know like I used to have a lot of
fish. But I did have a lot of things here and there but they weren’t like major pets.
Archana Manoj: Has being the youngest in your family impacted your life?
Yunjeong Lee: I feel like being the youngest has affected my personality a lot. I’m the youngest so my
parents have a soft spot for me and so I have my way of getting things and I’m very sneaky about it but I
think it impacted how I portray myself to others. You know because people think that because I’m the
youngest I’m not that studious or calm you know. It just for me as person conducted me to, I think its a part
of me.
Archana Manoj: What's your favorite subject in school and why?
Yunjeong Lee: Right now my favorite subject, I don't really know if I have a favorite subject because I don’t
really know if I enjoy school but I like math, just the critical thinking part of it. I feel like it’s easy and it comes
easy to me. It’s a subject I’m strong in but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I like it its just my strong suit.”
Archana Manoj: What's your hype song and why does it hype you up?
Yunjeong Lee: My hype song, I don’t really listen to music to hype me up. I listen to a lot of tone down like
sad songs. If I wanna get hype, I don't listen to music. I listen to music when I’m depressed so I don’t think I
have a hype song.”
Archana Manoj: What's your favorite movie?
Yunjeong Lee: My favorite movie is the Harry Potter series. It’s really, I got obsessed with it. Over break I
binge watched the whole series and its such a, its my comfort movie especially the first movies but as it
goes on it gets really dark.”
Archana Manoj: What's your favorite show?
Yunjeong Lee: My favorite show is Bridgerton Bridgertons a good show because especially in the first
season you can't expect the plot really. It just really brings back an old time when we didn't have phones
and everything was so pure and it seems so fun to live in that generation when we didn’t have phones. It just
seems so fun to live in that environment.”
Archana Manoj: Do you play any instruments?
Yunjeong Lee: I used to play a lot of instruments but as of now I quit them all. I used to play the piano from a
young age from when I was 6. I first liked it but later on I started hating it because it was so much work. In
elementary school I started playing the flute which I really enjoyed playing, I played until we moved here but
I heard that Hebron Band is so much of a commitment. Like when I see my friends they stay at school for
like over 12 hours just for band. I feel like if I did band I wouldn’t be able to focus on my studies so I quit
playing flute. I also played saxophone for a little bit because at my old school the band was small and we

needed these instruments so my teacher taught me the saxophone for free in regards that I help them in the
jazz band so yeah I learned that.
Archana Manoj: Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Yunjeong Lee: I personally am right in the middle so if I take an extrovert introvert test its always 51%
extrovert and 49% introvert. To the people I’m closest with I become an introvert like I’m very quiet around
but if I’m not close with them I can't stand the silence so I talk a lot but overall I think I’m more of an
extrovert.
Archana Manoj: What's one thing you miss about Wisconsin?
Yunjeong Lee: As I mentioned before, the snow and my friends.I feel like it was a good environment
because everyone knew everyone which was nice because I grew up with them so even if you weren’t close
with them, you knew everyone’s name. You knew all the tea you know. Here if there’s tea its like this person
and this person did blah blah blah blah. And I’m like who’s that person and who’s this person especially
because I’m new here. Over there it was such a family environment. Everyone was friendly which was nice.
Archana Manoj: Can you do any accents, if so can you do some for me?
Yunjeong Lee: I can’t do any accents but I have a Wisconsin accent. I say some words differently like bag
and tag.
Archana Manoj: If you could get a tattoo what would it be and why?
Yunjeong Lee: I like small tattoos so I would like to get a cross or a heart between my fingers.
Archana Manoj: Summer or winter?
Yunjeong Lee: I don’t like summer or winter but if I had to choose I’d choose winter because it’s so pretty. I
love the snow and the decorations.
Archana Manoj: What’s the weirdest word in the English language and why?
Yunjeong Lee: The word Mississippi is really weird. There’s too many letters and it’s too long.
Archana Manoj: What's your favorite word?
Yunjeong Lee: My favorite word is probably food it makes me so happy.
Archana Manoj: Whats your favorite water brand?
Yunjeong Lee: I don’t drink bottled water. I like filtered water from my house. But recently I’ve been liking
alkaline water because it just tastes so good.
Archana Manoj: Did you like the winter winter apocalypse?
Yunjeong Lee: I liked it because it was nowhere near the snow storms in Wisconsin. I liked that we got to
miss school though.
Archana Manoj: What was the latest time you’ve stayed up?
Yunjeong Lee: I’ve pulled all nighters a lot to do work so that’s probably the latest.
Archana Manoj: Whats your favorite game pigeon game?
Yunjeong Lee: My favorite game pigeon game is Sea Battle because I’m really good at it. I know a lot of
people don’t but I just have a really good strategy.
Archana Manoj: Favorite sport?
Yunjeong Lee: I don’t play that many sports but I like to watch sports. Right now I like to watch Basketball
because of the adrenaline that kicks in while I watch.
Archana Manoj: Whats your favorite shop at the mall?
Yunjeong Lee: I really like H&M because their clothes are very modern and they’re really quick on trends.
They’re very pretty and they’re casual and formal at the same time. They just have a really good blend of
clothes.
