Q&A with Freshman Archana Manoj
Yunjeong Lee:What are some plans you have for the summer?

Archana Manoj:I think I’m going to go traveling with my family or with my sister. We might go to
New York or somewhere like that. I have been there before but I didn’t really get to travel to
great places. I love to go to any apartment there and just see what it's like because I really want
to live there in the future.

YL:What is your favorite class and why?

AM:My favorite class so far is fashion design because I get to design a lot and I love designing.
We get to make stuff and It’s the only class I get things out of. So I actually learned how to use
the sewing machine and how to hand sew. Yeah I really like how we can take stuff home with
us.

YL:How are you preparing for the Ap test?

AM: I personally don’t think I’m preparing very well. It’s next week on Thursday. I've been
looking through my AP book and been doing some tests there. But I mainly have been trying to
look at quizlets and get the definitions down because that’s gonna be on the AP test. I've been
trying to study but I haven’t been doing a good job. I don’t feel prepared at all.
YL:How do you feel about finals?

AM:I’m not too worried about my finals. We have journalism which we need to just upload to the
site. In fashion design it's going to be really easy (because) we get to use our notes. In English
we just have to write an essay and I’m very good at writing essays. For hgap she said that she
would make the finals really easy because we take the APexam so I’m just worried about the
AP test not really finals

YL:How has your boyfriend impacted your life?

AM: My boyfriend has impacted my life for the better. We been together for 7 months now and I
know that freshman relationship are stupid but so far its has been okay. He has impacted my life
positively because I gotten a lot more friends because I became friends with his friends. I feel
ever since we went together I became a better person. I became more of an extrovert. I can
make conversations with strangers better. He taught me to look at the positive side in life, not
the negative.

YL: How has Covid affected you?

AM: I actually had covid whenever it first came. I got it around April 2020. I got (had) it for a few
months. So it was from April to maybe June. I was having a very hard time because I could not
do my work. It was very difficult. In edgenuity I couldn’t do it so I asked them(the teachers) if I
could get an extension but they didn’t give me an extension and so I just had to work through it.

YL:What are the major differences between your middle school life and high school life?

AM:In 5th grade I went to an elementary school in LISD(district). I moved to a charter school for
6th grade and half of 7th grade. So whenever I moved there I didn’t want to go there at all. I felt
like I didn’t know anyone that went there. It was in so in coppell so it was a hour plus drive just
to get there so I feel like it was so stupid that I went there in the first place. I feel like going there
changed me for the worst. I didn't like myself when I went there. Since I had this experience of
how I was then I became a better person going into high school.

YL: How do you feel about becoming a 10th grader?

AM:I feel like it's going to be like freshman year all over again in the main campus. It’s going to
be worse because we’re going to have more classes on such a big campus so it's going to be
hard getting around and it's going to be hard finding your friends.

YL:What is your favorite show and why?

AM: My favorite show is Rick and Morty. I think it's so funny. It’s so fun to watch whenever
you're having a bad day and it can make you happy. It’s a cartoon so it brings out your
childhood.

YL:Who inspires you?

AM: My mom inspires me. She a nurse. She was born in India so when she decided to become
a nurse she wanted to support her family. So she became a nurse just to support them but
when ever she met my dad they want to get together so that they could move to America
together and start a family there. My mom really persuaded her life. She really had a hard life in
the beginning. She used to have to work for really unhygienic hospitals. So she would get sick a
lot but she was okay with it cause she could take care of others. Now she worked in the covid
floor which really impacted her life. She would get scars on her face just cause of the masks. So
I feel like that showed how much she is a hard worker.

YL:What are some positives and negatives of being a middle child?

AM:Positive is that you are forgotten more but it's not as bad as they say it. They ignore you but
you get used to it and start to like it more because you want your own space and you're not
bothered as much as the older or the youngest. The negatives of it would be that when I was
younger I wanted more attention but when every my brother was born he kinda took all the
attention away from me so that sucked being such a young kid

YL:If you could go back in time what would you do differently?

AM:I wouldn’t change anything because I feel like everything that happened in my life happened
for a reason . Even if at that time I didn’t like it it ended up really impacting my life for the better.
So I wouldn’t change anything.

YL:If you could travel anywhere where would you go?

AM:I would go to Italy or Greece because they are very Mediterranean and I love the
Mediterranean environment and they have delicious food. The buildings there are so gorgeous
the color schemes are good. I think i went to Spain when i was really young but I didn’t get to
experience it that much so i always wanted to go

YL:What is your dream job?

AM: I would love to have my own business. So I want to go to college and get a business and
marketing degree along with a medical degree to become a dermatologist because in the past I
struggled with really really bad skin. I had acne so I had the experience. I went to the
dermatologist because drug store products wouldn’t help me at all. I love the environment there.
It’s very calm and nice to go there even to just hang out there in a very secure environment. I
would love to become a dermatologist along with having my business.

YL:What is your favorite childhood memory?

AM:Whenever I was born there was a family friend. He was about 3 when U was born and so I
knew him all of my life. I remember hanging out with him and wherever I went he would go so I
laugh at those memories

YL:What opinion of pineapple on pizza?

AM:I actually like pineapple on pizza because ever since I was very young my dad would
always get Hawaiian pizza from Pizza Hut. I don’t know why but I think it's because they

messed up his order one time and just gave him pineapple pizza and he really liked it. As long
as the pineapple is not too soggy it's really good?

YL:Your most embarrassing moment?

AM:I was when me and my boyfriend James went to Panda Express and he pulls out a whole
100 dollar bill from his phone case and our meal was literally 10 dollars and he just gave them a
100 dollar bill. I remember them pulling out so much change. He dropped all of the change and I
had to go get it and it was so embarrassing because they(workers) were all laughing behind
me.

YL:If you could buy anything, what would it be?

AM:I think I would buy a cat. I would love to adopt one but I feel like buying one because I
bought my dog for 100 dollars and we got her off of craigslist. I really like dog cat relationships.
So i really want my dog to have a cat friend. Se gets along with other animals and people but i
want her to get used to cats because last time she saw a cat she peed she got so scared. I just
want her to get along with other cats.
