 The approaches in community development
 Characteristics of a healthy and unhealthy community

I. Guide Questions/Essay (Write in paragraph form-10 points each)

1. In your thinking, what qualities must prevail in every family to make it a real contributory factor
to nation building? Justify your answer

Families play a vital role in social growth as fundamental and important building blocks of
communities. They are largely responsible for children's education and socialization, as well as
instilling citizenship and belonging ideals in society. Families offer material and non-material
care and assistance to their families, from children to the elderly or those who are sick, shielding
them from adversity to the greatest extent possible. Considering our Federation's extensive
experience working with families around the world, we see every day that family is where the
vast majority of people learn the basic life skills, and other organizations affirm this. Family
structure and process matter at the most basic level: research suggests that results for both
children and adults differ depending on family context, and public policy should represent this.
Children who grow up in happy, affluent, two-parent households are more likely to be happy,
healthy, and prosperous than those who do not have the same degree of family security and
stability.

2. How does the family influence the development of the personality of every individual member?
Justify your answer
Environmental effects on a child's personality include biological and social-cultural factors.
Happiness, morality, mortality, behavior, and, once again, personality is all influenced by the
society in which one grows up. For the development of children, humans depend heavily on
learning. Since we are not born knowing how to act in society, we must learn much of our social
skills from our surroundings as we grow up. For most of us, learning begins at home with our
families. Observation of daily life is the most common way for children to understand. Since the
family is a child's primary social community, the family has the greatest impact on their learning
and socialization.

To use an example, if you were building a large structure, you would want to ensure that the base
is solid so that the rest of the structure can stand tall and strong for several years. The building
would fail to stand on its own if the base is weak. We find it more difficult to be effective in our
relationships with others, jobs, health, and ourselves if our foundations are not stable. As a
consequence, the role of the family in the growth of a child cannot be overstated.
At these stages of childhood growth, the family will be in charge of influencing a child's beliefs,
abilities, socialization, and security.

3. How does a community function as a system of socialization?

The culture has mechanisms for instilling its beliefs and standards in its members. Tradition,
modeling, and/or formal education can all play a role.

Socialization is the process of acquainting people with the norms of a particular social group or
culture. It prepares people to engage in a community by demonstrating the group's standards.

Children begin the process of socialization at home with their families and continue it at school.
They learn what is required of them as they grow up and become contributing members of
society. Adults that enter new social groups need socialization as well. It is the process of passing
down norms, principles, beliefs, and attitudes to future members of a community.

By teaching people, the norms and expectations of a social community, socialization prepares
them to engage in that group. Teaching impulse control and creating a conscience, training
people to play certain social roles, and fostering common sources of meaning and significance
are the three main goals of socialization. Cultural variations in socialization should not suggest
that some societies are better or worse than others.

4. Enumerate three (3) service institutions in your area (Barangay) and How do their presence and
functioning to unite the community.

I. Educational Facilities
II. Health Facilities
III. Infrastructure facilities
Nowadays, we people became busy with everything and we have our own lives to deal with, but we
still need to interact with others. Thanks to the organizations available in our community, just being
there is already a big help. They became a tool for us to be united. For me, the place to live and to
enjoy is our community. It means building an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. In times of
trouble, the people of a society should be together and confront one common purpose. A community
consists of people of different backgrounds, ethnicity, values, and statuses. They may also be
newborns, senior citizens, or the working class. We're all equal.
Finally, if you look at the word community you find the word unity in it.
Community means to come together united.
“We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools”.
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

6. How does the urban neighborhood differ from rural neighborhood?

 The term "urban" refers to a settlement with a large population and features of a built
environment (an environment that provides basic facilities for human activity). The geographical
area situated in the outskirts of cities or towns is known as rural.
 Rural life is easy and comfortable, whereas urban life is quick and complicated.
 Cities and towns are included in the urban settlement. Villages and hamlets, on the other side,
make up the rural settlement.
 Because of the built environment, there is a greater separation from nature in urban areas. Rural
areas, on the other hand, are in close interaction with nature, as natural elements have an effect
on them.
 Workers in cities work in non-agricultural jobs such as finance, commerce, and the service
industry. Agriculture and animal husbandry, on the other hand, are the primary occupations of
rural people.

 Urban areas are densely populated in terms of population, which is determined by urbanization,
that is. the higher the urbanization, the higher the population. The rural population, on the other
hand, is sparse, which has an inverse relationship with agriculture.
 According to the process of urbanization and industrialization, urban areas are built in a planned
and systematic manner. Rural development is uncommon due to the scarcity of natural vegetation
and fauna in the region.
 When it comes to social mobilization, city dwellers are extremely involved, as they often move
occupations or residences in search of better opportunities. Rural regions, on the other hand, have
a lower degree of occupational or territorial mobility.
 At the time of job assignment, division of labor and specialization are still present in the urban
settlement. There is no division of labor in urban areas, as opposed to rural areas.

7. How does the media influence in the formation of values among children?
Weight status, sexual initiation, violent feelings and attitudes, consumerism, and social alienation
are among the many facets of children's healthy development that the media has the troubling
ability to adversely affect. The media has the potential to have a positive impact on children's
welfare. We need to figure out how to maximize the role of media in our culture, optimizing its
positive aspects while minimizing its negative ones. The main aim is to reach out to young
people and spread positive messages.
Embracing media rather than fighting it has the potential to be a powerful weapon in influencing
children's and adolescents' behavior.
Individual views, perceptions, and actions may all be influenced by the media. As a result, policy
interventions using mass media communication have targeted social stereotypes that affect and
promote gender abuse.
Individuals will be encouraged to embrace new standards if they are told about them in the
media. The information generates shared understanding of a standard and increases social
coordination in the social impact, as individuals are more likely to accept information if they
think others have accepted it as well.

8. How can you help the country as a student and as a member of the community?
 Participate as a volunteer. There are several volunteer opportunities available. Look for things
that interest you, things that you've done before, things that you excel at, or things that you'd like

 Local businesses should be supported. Local businesses are an important part of communities
that are constantly under attack from larger national and multi-national rivals.
 Clean up your space. Simple items like litter picking and planting will go a long way toward
making your neighborhood a more pleasant place to live for all.
 Assist the neighbors. Charity begins at home, and society begins with those in the immediate
vicinity. Many people suffer in silence from financial, physical, or psychological issues. Take the
time to get to know your neighbors and see if you can assist them. It could be anything from
budgeting to grocery shopping to simply speaking. You never know how much a few minutes of
your time will make a difference to someone in need.
 Make a donation. Charities will benefit from your discarded possessions, so supporting the
community doesn't have to mean contributing time or money. Donate discarded clothes, jewelry,
