Power sector in India is based on

1. Generation of Power
Generation of power can be done by Coal, Hydro power, Solar power, Wind power, Biogas
2. Transmission of Power
Power is transmitted in India by different voltage slabs. Ultra High Voltage, Extra High Voltage, High Voltage (33kV,
11kV) and Low Tension (440V, 6.6kV)
3. Distribution of Power
Power is distributed in a mix load to different outlets such as Industries, Household, Agriculture and Commercial use.

Power Trading refers to buying and selling of power through different ways, Exchange and Through Tradee (need to pay trading
margin) or through direct trading.

Power Trading in India is done with the help of portals like IEX and PXIL.

1. Bilateral Power Trading-


It is done between a buyer and seller through an auction. The auction can be Open or Closed.
2. Collective Power Trading-
The power is supplied in a pool by the sellers through which the suppliers are provided the required amount of power.

Indian Power Market provides power

 for Long Term (Up to 25 years) through Power Purchase Agreement,


 for Medium Term (3 months to 3 years) through Over the Counter purchase by licensed traders,
 for Short Term (intraday to 3 months) through Over the Counter or through exchanges.
