1 Preparation
1.1 General Information
This Update will provide ACUSON S Family software version VC31B utilizing Remote Update
Handling and conventional on site visits with internet downloadable software and user
documentation.
This SW patch provides additional new service features to continue to support and improve
utilization of SRS.
• New version of the Manage Node Package (MNP) this is required to continue to support
SRS RUH going forward.
• Re-introduce syngo Remote Assist powered by eSieLink, Siemens Ultrasound
implementation of TeamViewer.
To take advantage of these new SRS features we recommend and encourage the countries to take
the opportunity and get their systems connected and configured for SRS at the same time this
update is performed.

1.1.1 eRUH Process


Systems targeted via SRS will follow the standard eRUH process. The remote update will happen in
two phases. This will improve the chances of a successful remote performed update.
· Software Transfers: When the BU opens the RUH notification, the software patch will be
transferred from backend server to the system. If the transfer is successfully completed, then
the RUH installation GUI will be transferred to the system.
· Software Installation: When both Software transfer and RUH installation GUI are available on
the system, at the system start up, an RUH installation GUI will pop up to inform the customer
to install the update.
See Appendix A for details regarding on screen information customer will see during
installation.
Note: Systems targeted via RUH will also be called up for Update US005/16/P which will deliver
user documentation via certified mail or electronic distribution. See US005/16/P for details.
Note: In case of a failed RUH update, a conventional on site visit will be required to perform the
update.

1.1.2 Systems/Products Affected


ACUSON S Family systems with software version VC30C and VC31A are affected. China is excluded
due to non-registration of VC31.

1.1.3 Reason for the Update


Software version VC31B corrects the following safety issues:
The Time Average Velocity (TAV), value is calculated incorrectly in full screen mode (all systems
affected). As described in the Customer Safety Advisory Notice distributed via US013/15/S.
The Virtual Touch IQ region of interest repositioning from the original location (systems with
Virtual Touch IQ options only). As described in the Customer Safety Advisory Notice distributed via
US014/15/S.
CIVCO Biopsy Guide, The needle may traverse outside the on-screen guidelines (systems with 6C1
HD and 18L6 HD Transducers). As described in the Customer Safety Advisory Notice distributed via
US016/15/S.

1.1.4 Prerequisites
Minimum System Software version VC30C is required. Systems with VC30A, VC30B need to follow
up and perform Update Instruction US029/14/S.
It is recommended to contact the customer and ask them to archive all patient data prior to
arrival.
No update material is available from CSML for this update. Software patch and user
documentation must be downloaded from the Siemens intranet prior to arrival on-site.

1.1.5.1 For Intranet Updates


A good quality blank recordable CD or DVD is required to create the VC31B software patch media.
This CD/DVD is not included in the kit and must be obtained locally.

1.2 Material Information

1.2.1 Ordering Information


No materials logistic update solution available for this update. The software patch and user
documentation must be downloaded from the Siemens intranet.

1.2.2 Preparations for User Documentation Download


Before you go on-site you must download and print the new user documentation for each system
being updated. Each system being updated requires new user documentation.
1. The CIN is available in Efigs, and separately as English, German, French, Italian and Spanish
2. The errata and supplement manual is combined into one document for each language.

1.2.2.1 Download and Print the Customer Documentation


The documentation can be downloaded from the S Family product information page on the

7. There is one folder for the CIN and a separate folder for the Errata/Supplement
8. Download the appropriate local language documents
9. Print the document with duplex print and staple it in the upper left corner

1.2.3 Preparations for Intranet Software Download


Before you go on-site you must download software patch VC31B ISO file from the SIEMENS
intranet and create an SW patch installer disk.
Below are the location and instructions how to download and create the ISO Image file.
The required file: "VC31B_450.0.118_IntranetUpdate_Rev02.zip" has to be downloaded from the
Siemens Healthcare Intranet.

10. A pop message will appear, click Save as.

11. Select a destination to save the file (in this example your desktop) click Save.

Double click the zip file and extract the files.

1.2.3.2 Burn the file to a CD/DVD


Important: You must burn the ISO file to the CD or DVD as an image; if you simply copy the
ISO file to the CD, the System will not recognize it as a software patch install disk.
1. Insert blank CD or DVD in drive
2. Right Click on the VC31B_450.0.118_IntranetUpdate_Rev02.zip you just downloaded to
your desktop, select Open with.

3. Select Windows Explorer, if necessary use the Browse button to navigate to Windows
Explorer then select Windows Explorer from the list and click OK.

4. Double Click PCC_VC3XX_31B_Rev02.iso. The Windows Disk Image Burner will be


displayed.

5. Click Verify disc after burning, and then click Burn.

Note: If this screen is not displayed, reference Appendix B to set up Windows Disc Image
Burner as default for iso-files.

6. Verify the status “The disk image has been successfully burned to disc”. The disk should
automatically eject. Click Close.

7. Label the CD/DVD as follows:

2.1 Work Steps

2.1.1 Install SW Patch Version VC31B


· Prior to arriving on-site contact the customer and ask them to archive patient data
· Verify current installed software version
· Install software patch VC31B following the S Family Software Patch Installation – VC30C
through VC31B PN: US15-131.816.01.XX.02 downloaded as described in step 1.1.5.2.
· Verify the system was updated

2.1.2 Final Work Steps


· This update includes an IVK change. The new SW version VC31B will be automatically
updated in the Installed Base management system when the update is reported as
performed.
· Make a copy of the filled-out Completion Protocol.
· While on site, locate, remove and discard any older software disks from the customer site.
· The update has to be reported by authorized employees, either via:
o Automated data transfer (only in countries connected to SAP via an Update
Handling Interface)
o The “ Update Handling ” on the Siemens Healthcare Intranet/Extranet -> Customer
Services application (for countries NOT connected to SAP via the Update Handling
Interface)
o The Completion Protocol (for countries that do not have one of the connections
indicated above)
Note: Do not leave the downloaded VC31B SW patch media (DVD/CD) at the customer site.

2.1.3 Customer Information


· Inform the customer of:
o The solution to the “Customer Safety Advisory Notice”: US013/15/S - S Family
Time Average Velocity and if equipped US014/15/S - S2000 & S3000 VTIQ CSAN
and US016/15/S - S Family Biopsy Guide CSAN.
o The fact the system is back in operation
· Handover the printed user manual supplement with errata and the CIN to the customer.
The document is to be added to the original user manual.

By pushing the description button, the details pertaining to the SW being installed will be
displayed.

Defer: Selecting the Defer option will postpone the SW installation. Customer can select Defer
option for up to 30 days at which time installation will be reported as failed.
Note: If the Defer option is selected, the GUI will appear on the next system power cycle or
reboot. The GUI will not appear after resuming from Standby.

Help: Selecting this option will display the Help information.

Yes: Selecting the Yes button will immediately install the SW. The progress bar appears on the
screen.
