4 1 Preparation

1.1 General Information


This Update will provide ACUSON S Family with software version VC31C and requires a
conventional on-site visit.
For Update Handling requests, which require extra time, please contact the Update Man‐
agement Team. The Update Management Team acts as a Single Point of Contact for all
Regional Units and Business Lines with Updates (UIs) after they have been published. This
includes Update Monitoring, Reimbursement, Escalations, Status Reports, and Extra Time
Requests.

1.1.1 Systems/Products Affected


This update replaces previously released update US019/17/S, VC31B to VE10B.
ACUSON S Family systems with software version VC30C, VC31A and VC31B are affected.
China is excluded from this update.

1.1.2 Reason for Update


The Software patch VC31C provides performance fixes and a security hotfix to address
the WannaCry virus. There are no safety related defect fixes included in this update. This
update patch is applicable to all systems currently on the VC31B SW version and is inten‐
ded to support our customers improve performance and better protect their systems from
security vulnerabilities.
A Customer Advisory Notice was distributed via update program US018/17/S.
The specific performance improvements are:
n More stable system transition between frozen color to m-mode.
n More robust ARFI measurements to account for patient motion.
n More stable system performance when using user-defined presets with auto-stats en‐
abled.

1.1.3 Prerequisites
System software version VC31B must be installed.

 Software patch VC31C can only install on top of software version VC31B.

For systems at software version VC30C or VC31A


Software version VC31B must be installed first before VC31C can be installed. These sys‐
tems will also require minor updates to the user documentation. See update procedure
US004/16/S for details. Follow the instructions which describe how to download and in‐
stall software patch VC31B and how to download changes to the user documentation.
For systems at software version VC30A or VC30B
Update US029/14/S must be performed first. Part of this update is to obtain correct user
documentation and software version VC30C. then the system must be updated to VC31B
before this update can be performed. For details, see update procedure US029/14/S and
US004/16/S.

It is recommended to contact the customer and ask them to archive all patient data prior
to arrival.
No update material is available from CSML for this update. The software patch must be
downloaded from the Siemens intranet prior to arrival on-site.
The latest version of this document can be found in the Services Knowledge Base (SKB).

n You will need to sign on with PKI or Windows Login.
n Check Document Types “UI”.
n Type in the update number US007/19/P in the search field, and then click Search.

1.1.4 Special Tools

1.1.4.1 For Intranet Updates


A good quality blank recordable CD or DVD is required to create the VC31C software patch
media.

1.1.4.2 Software Installation Procedure


The following document is not included in this update procedure but can be downloaded
from CB-DOC on the Siemens CS med intranet (Where XX is the latest version):

Access the Product Information site, using a PKI card or Windows Login to log in:

1. On the Product Information site, select US.


2. Select ACUSON Products.
3. Select ACUSON S1000, ACUSON S2000 or ACUSON S3000.
4. Select CB-DOC. Double-click the CB-DOC to open.
5. Click Installation.

1.2 Material Information

1.2.1 Ordering Information


No materials logistic update solution available for this update. The software patch must
be downloaded from the Siemens intranet.

1.2.2 Preparations for Intranet Software Download


Before you go on-site you must download the software patch VC31C ISO file from the SIE‐
MENS intranet and create a SW patch installer disk.
Instructions describing how to download and create the ISO Image file are provided be‐
low..
The required file "VC31C_450.0.126_intranet Update.iso.zip" must be downloaded from
the Siemens Healthcare Intranet.

 The following example instructions is for a computer running Win7.

1.2.2.1 Download the File


Navigate to the VC31C update patch posted on the Siemens intranet.
( CB-DOC, https://productinformation.healthcare.siemens.com/)

1. Use PKI card or Windows Login to login (If required)


2. On the Product Information site, select US.
3. Select Common US.
4. Select SW Patches.
5. Select S-Family.

6. Select VC31C . Click on the VC31C_450.0.126_intranet Update.iso.zip file.

7. A pop up message will appear, click Save as.

8. Select a destination to save the file (in this example your desktop), and then click
Save.

9. Right click on the file downloaded to your desktop and select Extract All.

10. Click Browse to select a destination in this example the desktop and click Extract.

1.2.2.2 Burn the File to a CD/DVD

 Important: You must burn the ISO file to the CD or DVD as an image; if you simply copy
the ISO file to the CD, the System will not recognize it as a software patch install disk.

1. Insert a blank CD or DVD in the CD/DVD drive.


2. Locate the extracted file (in this example, on the desktop).
3. Double Click on the file. A new window will appear.

4. Right Click on the file and select Burn disc image.

 Windows Disc Image Burner may be displayed instead of Burn disc image. This varies
between Windows operating systems.

5. Check Verify disc after burning in the lower left corner and then select Burn

6. Verify that the status “The disk image has been successfully burned to disc” is dis‐
played. The disk should automatically eject. Click Close.

7. Label the CD/DVD as follows:

2.1 Work Steps

2.1.1 Overview
n Locate, Uninstall, and Move the imaging optimization file.
n Install software patch version VC31C
n Reactivate FPD imaging optimization file

2.1.2 Locate, Uninstall, and Move the Imaging Optimization File

2.1.2.1 Locate the ICC File

1. Press the System Config key on the keyboard.


2. Click Service, and then click Local Service.

3. Type the Level 7 Service Password, and then click OK.

4. Click Utilities.

5. Select Escape to OS from the Source drop-down menu.


6. Type explorer in the Parameters window, and then click Go. Windows Explorer will be
displayed.

7. Navigate to C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\color.

8. Verify that KT_LM215FDS.icm file is located in the color folder.

9. If the KT_LM215FDS.icm file is not saved to the system, continue to 2.1.3 Install SW
Patch Version VC31C.

2.1.2.2 Uninstall and Move the KT_LM215FDS.icm file to USB Drive


This procedure uninstalls the profile from the system and moves the KT_LM215FDS.icm
file to the USB Flash Drive. This file will be reinstalled after the VC31C software update.

1. Insert a USB Flash Drive into one of the Control Panel USB ports.
2. Right click KT_LM215FDS.icm, and then click Uninstall Profile.

3. Right click KT_LM215FDS.icm, and then click Cut.

4. Navigate to the USB Flash Drive and click Paste.

5. Verify that the KT_LM215FDS.icm is saved to the USB Flash Drive.

6. Remove the USB Flash Drive from the Control Panel.


7. Press the Power button, and then click Restart.

2.1.3 Install SW Patch Version VC31C


1. Verify current installed software version.
- If VC31B software version is installed, continue to step 2.
- For systems with software version VC30C or VC31A you must first perform the
mandatory VC31B update US004/16/S.
- For systems at software version VC30A or VC30B you must first perform the man‐
datory update US029/14/S.
2. Install software patch VC31C following the S Family Software Patch Installation –
VC30C through VC31C, PN: US15-131.816.01.XX.02.
3. Verify that the system was updated and fully functional.
4. If the KT_LM215FDS.icm file was not copied continue to 2.1.5 Final Work Steps.

2.1.4 Reactivate FPD Imaging Optimization File

 This procedure is only required if the imaging optimization file was previously saved to
the USB Flash Drive.

The following procedure describes how to reactivate the FPD ICC (International Color Con‐
sortium) imaging optimization file (KT_LM215FDS.icm).
This file is only present if the imaging optimization was performed at an earlier point of
time before the VC31C patch was installed.
The concept is to leave the system with the same imaging optimization before and after
this update is performed. If the system was optimized the imaging optimization file must
be reactivated.

1. Press the Power button, and then click Restart. The system must be rebooted to en‐
sure that the imaging optimization file (KT_LM215FDS.icm) will be properly reactiva‐
ted.

2. Insert the USB Flash Drive with the saved KT_LM215FDS.icm file into one of the Con‐
trol Panel USB ports.
3. Press the System Config key on the keyboard.
4. Click Service, and then click Local Service.

5. Type the Level 7 Service Password, and then click OK.

9. Navigate to the USB Flash Drive and locate the KT_LM215FDS.icm file.

10. Right click KT_LM215FDS.icm, and then click Copy.

11. Navigate to C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\color, and then right click Paste.

12. Right click KT_LM215FDS.icm, and then click Install Profile. The KT_LM215FDS.icm
file will be saved to the system (C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\color).

13. Right click KT_LM215FDS.icm, and then click Associate. The Associate Device menu
will be displayed.

14. Verify that KT-LM215FDS is displayed, and then click Add. The Add Device menu will

15. Click Add.

16. Verify 1. Plug and Play Monitor is displayed in the Associated Devices box. Click Ap‐
ply, and then click OK. The Associate Device Menu will close.

17. Navigate to the Control Panel, and then click Display. The Display Properties menu
will be displayed.

18. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

19. Click the Color Management tab, and then verify KT_LM215FDS is displayed in Color
profiles box.

20. Verify that KT_LM215FDS is listed as the Default monitor profile, and then click OK.

21. Close any remaining windows.


22. Remove the USB Flash Drive from the Control Panel.
23. Press the Power button, and then click Restart.

2.1.5 Final Work Steps


n This update includes an IVK change. The new software version VC31C will be auto‐
matically updated in the Installed Base management system when the update is repor‐
ted as performed.

 Changes to the IVK structure must be reported to the local Data Management in order
for the Installed Base to be updated.

n Make a copy of the filled-out Completion Protocol.


n While on site, locate, remove and discard any older software disks from the customer
site.
n The update has to be reported by authorized employees, either via:
- Automated data transfer (only in countries connected to SAP via an Update Han‐
dling Interface)
- The “ Update Handling ” on the Siemens Healthcare Intranet/Extranet -> Customer
Services application (for countries NOT connected to SAP via the Update Handling
Interface)
- the Completion Protocol (for countries that do not have one of the connections in‐
dicated above)

 Do not leave the downloaded VC31C SW patch media (DVD/CD) at the customer site.

2.1.6 Customer Information


n Inform the customer the system has been updated to software version VC31C which
contains security hot fixes to address the WannaCry virus as communicated via the
CAN distributed via update US018/17/S.
n The fact the system is back in operation.

3.1.1 Reason for the Update


The Software patch VC31C provides performance fixes and a security hotfix to address
the WannaCry virus. There are no safety related defect fixes included in this update. This
update patch is applicable to all systems currently on the VC31B SW version and is inten‐
ded to support our customers improve performance and better protect their systems from
security vulnerabilities.
A Customer Advisory Notice was distributed via update program US018/17/S.
