General Summary:
The Indian Concrete Institute got Organizational life membership on
April 2018, in-order to benefit the students. On this regard, the student chapter
was started in July 2018 with a total of 131 members. The Inaugural function of
Indian Concrete Institute – Student Chapter and a Seminar on “Recent
Advancements n Special Concrete” was held in the Sri Ramakrishna
Engineering College, Coimbatore on 29th August 2018.

After the Lighting of Kuthuvilaku, the dignitaries and the gathering were
cordially welcomed by Dr. E. Sarojini, Professor & Head, Department of Civil
Engineering, SREC by giving bouquets to the chief guest Mr. R.
Radhakrishnan.

The Inaugural address was given by Mr. R. Radhakrishnan, Secretary

General, ICI. Followed by the Inaugural ceremony, the seminar on Recent
Advancements In Special Concrete was initiated.

The Inaugural address was given by Mr. R. Radhakrishnan, Secretary

General, ICI. He talks about the significance of Indian Concrete Institute. He
guided the students to be sincere, hardworking & revealed that active
participation in all the ICI Activities is an essential one. He wanted the young
budding engineers to contribute more inorder to improve the standards of ICI.

After a short break with good refreshments, all gathered back at 11:00 am for

Dr. K. Subramanian, Chairman, ICI, Coimbatore Centre started his speech

with his wishes to the Department of Civil Engineering, SREC for inaugurating
the ICI Student Chapter in SREC. In his speech, he pointed out the importance
of the sustainable concrete. He gave a brief explanation about some
environmentally friendly & sustainable concrete technology methods which
would help in meeting the sustainable development challenges faced by the
concrete industry. He ended up by saying that, with good initial planning,

design, well considered renovation & managed demolition, sustainable

development using concrete is achievable.

After lunch break, all gathered back at 1:45 pm for the Technical Session – II

Er. A. Sudhakar, Secretary, ICI, Coimbatore Centre delivered his

presentation on Speciality of Concrete and its Economical usage. He talked
about the wastages produced in the ready mix concrete plant and the ways in
which the wastages could be controlled inorder to yield profit. He also spoke
about the efficient usage of IS Codes in the construction industry. He concluded
by saying that the usage of concrete should be economical in all means.

briefly explained about his concern and its accomplishments. He also added that
they have inaugurated a research centre in their campus for research purposes.
He then spoke about the different types of concrete, namely decorative,

pervious & self – compacting concrete. He ended his speech with the
importance of concrete and the ways in which it could be effectively used for
construction purpose.

After a short break with nice refreshments at 4:00 pm, the seminar ended with
certificate distribution.
The Validation & Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr. A. Dinesh, ICI - SREC
Coordinator. The ICI Student Chapter Inaugural Function and the seminar on
Recent Advancements in Special Concrete was proved to be a great success.
Both the members and the participants of the seminar were benefitted of the
same.
