CODE OF ETHICS 2

In this essay I present concept of ethics. Followed by the section that presents various approaches

to decide specific behaviour or action ethical and unethical. Based on the discussion of application of

ethical principle in context of scenario final section presents conclusion.

Ethics means a concept of conduct that helps in deciding what is right or wrong or what is good

or bad ( Rich, (2013). Ethics deal with morality and if you say I do not believe in ethics means you do not

think about others and about right and wrong. You think only about yourself and take an action that

pleases you even though those actions may be morally wrong.

If you intentionally do not pass me then there are various approaches that can be used to consider

this action ethical or unethical. Moral philosophy in this can be primarily categorized into three

categories. First is virtue ethics where your action will determine how you want to live life and what kind

of an individual you want to be. This action will establish you as an individual who does not do justice

and integrity is not your primary value. Therefore this action is unethical. Second category is

consequentialist ethics where behaviour is ethical on unethical is determined by the consequences of the

action (Peterson, 2013). This behaviour will harm the people around you. Your behaviour will impact the

career and lives of many students. This action will satisfy your ego and offer you happiness however

will impact my career too. Therefore the consequences of your action are generating more harm than

benefits to the world therefore it is unethical. Third category is deontological ethics that makes you ask

what duties do you owe and respect the autonomy of others (Alexander & Moore, 2007). There is a set of

rules established for behaviour of teacher and students and by asking question does your action follows

this rule can help in understanding whether this behaviour is ethical on unethical. From this perspective

your duty is to enlighten students with knowledge and good behaviour that can help them to become good

and responsible citizen. This action of your do not follow deontological principles.

If you tell me that I will not pass this exam then I will still continue to study as my ethics says

that I should work hard towards gaining knowledge. I will feel even if you do not pass me however you

cannot stop me from gaining knowledge, understanding and experience.

Therefore ethics refers to the concept of right or wrong conduct and deals with the moral

principles. Ethics guides actions and also help in defining the actions that an individual should take in

particular situation. Based on the virtue, consequence and duty towards society actions should be judged

to decide whether they are ethical or unethical.
