Caution to be taken when brazing refrigerant piping

“Do not use flux when brazing copper-to-copper refrigerant piping. (Particularly for the HFC refrigerant
piping) Therefore, use the phosphor copper brazing filler metal (BCuP) which does not require flux.”
(Flux has extremely harmful influence on refrigerant piping systems. For instance, if the chlorine based flux
is used, it will cause pipe corrosion or, in particular, if the flux contains fluorine, it will damage the refrigerant
oil. The use of flux is strictly forbidden since the cleaning on site is impossible.

(Remark) Keep in mind that if the phosphor copper brazing filler metal is used and the brazing temperature
and the heating time exceed a certain point, the phoshor changes into the gaseous state (e.g.
BCuP -1 to 5 : between 700 and 800°C) which causes pin holes and results in refrigerant
leakage.

11.1.2 Additional Refrigerant Charge

• This unit requires additional charging of refrigerant according to the length of pipe connected at the site.
The range where no charging is required. (R(Y)71~140LU : 30 m or less.)
Take the following steps for proper charging.
When connected to one indoor unit (pair system)

Main pipe (L1)

Indoor unit
One-way length of pipe (L):

• Select the amount of refrigerant which matches a length which exceeds the charge-less length from
Table 1, and add it.
Write down the amount of extra refrigerant added in accordance with the precaution plate on the rear
surface of the front plate, as this is necessary for after-sales service.

11.1.4 Pumping-down Operation Method
The outdoor unit is equipped with a low-pressure switch to protect the compressor.
Take the following steps to perform the pumping-down operation.

Caution: Never short-circuit the low-pressure switch in this operation.

Procedure Precautions
Confirm that stop valves both on the liquid and gas side
1. Start the fan operation with the remote controller. are open. Take care when the procedure 2 is done first
because the indoor unit fan may operate automatically.
2. Push the pumping-down button on the PC board of the Compressor and outdoor fan will start operation
outdoor unit. automatically.
3. Continue operation for 1 min. until operation condition —
stabilizes.
4. Close the stop valve on the liquid side securely. Insecure closing of the valve may result in burning of
(Refer to Fig. 1) the compressor.
5. When the low-pressure switch is activated, the unit
stops working. At this time, close the stop valve on the —
gas side.
This is the end of pumping-down operation.
After pumping-down operation, the remote controller shows “U4” even when ON button on the remote
controller is pressed, and it will not operate. Although the remote controller may or may not indicate “U4”
according to circumstances at this time, it is normal. When the remote controller indicates “U4”, the indoor
unit fan may operate (for about max 30 minutes). Turn off the main power supply switch and turn it on again
in need of operation.

How to use the stop valve (Refer to Fig. 1)

Have a hex wrench ready. (4 mm and 6 mm) (Gas side)
Opening direction
1. Open the valve.
a. Place the hex wrench on the valve bar and turn counter-clockwise. (Liquid side)
Opening direction
b. Stop when the valve bar no longer turns. It is now open.
2. Close the valve.
a. Place the hex wrench on the valve bar and turn clockwise.
b. Stop when the valve bar no longer turns. It is now closed.

Necessity of a trap
Since there is fear of the oil held inside the riser piping flowing back into the compressor when stopped and
causing liquid compression phenomenon, or cases of deterioration of oil return, it will be necessary to
provide a trap at an appropriate place in the riser gas piping.

Note: A trap is not necessary when the outdoor unit is installed in a higher position than the indoor unit.

Caution to be taken when brazing refrigerant piping

“Do not use flux when brazing copper-to-copper refrigerant piping. (Particularly for the HFC refrigerant
piping) Therefore, use the phosphor copper brazing filler metal (BCuP) which does not require flux”. (Flux
has extremely harmful influence on refrigerant piping systems. For instance, if the chlorine based flux is
used, it will cause pipe corrosion or, in particular, if the flux contains fluorine, it will damage the refrigerant
oil. The use of flux is strictly forbidden since the cleaning on site is impossible.)

(Remark) Keep in mind that if the phosphor copper brazing filler metal is used and the brazing temperature
and the heating time exceed a certain point, the phoshor changes into the gaseous state
(e.g. BCuP -1 to 5 : between 700 and 800°C) which causes pin holes and results in refrigerant
leakage.

11.1.4 Pumping-down Operation Method
The outdoor unit is equipped with a low-pressure switch to protect the compressor.
Take the following steps to perform the pumping-down operation.

Caution: Never short-circuit the low-pressure switch in this operation.

Procedure Precautions
1. Start the fan operation with the remote controller. Confirm that stop valves both on the liquid and gas side
are open. Take care when the procedure 2 is done first
because the indoor unit fan may operate automatically.
2. Push the pumping-down button on the PC board of Compressor and outdoor fan will start operation
the outdoor unit. automatically.
3. Continue operation for 1 min. until operation

condition stabilizes.
4. Close the stop valve on the liquid side securely. Insecure closing of the valve may result in burning of
(Refer to Fig. 1) the compressor.
5. When the low-pressure switch is activated, the unit
stops working. At this time, close the stop valve on —
the gas side.

Necessity of a trap
Since there is fear of the oil held inside the riser piping flowing back into the compressor when stopped and
causing liquid compression phenomenon, or cases of deterioration of oil return, it will be necessary to
provide a trap at an appropriate place in the riser gas piping.

Trap installation spacing

Indoor unit
Oil trap

Liquid piping

Outdoor unit

(Remark) Keep in mind that if the phosphor copper brazing filler metal is used and the brazing temperature
and the heating time exceed a certain point, the phoshor changes into the gaseous state
(e.g. BCuP -1 to 5 : between 700 and 800°C) which causes pin holes and results in refrigerant
leakage.

piping) Therefore, use the phosphor copper brazing filler metal (BCuP) which does not require flux”. (Flux
has extremely harmful influence on refrigerant piping systems. For instance, if the chlorine based flux is
used, it will cause pipe corrosion or, in particular, if the flux contains fluorine, it will damage the refrigerant
oil. The use of flux is strictly forbidden since the cleaning on site is impossible.)

(Remark) Keep in mind that if the phosphor copper brazing filler metal is used and the brazing temperature
and the heating time exceed a certain point, the phoshor changes into the gaseous state
(e.g . BCuP -1 to 5 : between 700 and 800°C) which causes pin holes and results in refrigerant
leakage.
