On April 26, 1986, a test at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine caused Reactor Number Four to explode, releasing large amounts of radiation into the atmosphere. The explosion contaminated over 784,320 hectares of land. Pripyat, a nearby city of Chernobyl plant employees, was abandoned as residents fled the radiation. In 2016, a massive steel shield was constructed over the Chernobyl plant at a cost of $1.6 billion to help prevent further radioactive pollution. The Chernobyl disaster directly caused 64 deaths and is estimated to have caused thousands of cancer deaths in the decades following as radiation spread across Europe and into Turkey.

On April 26, 1986, the Number Four RBMK reactor at the
nuclear power plant at Chernobyl, Ukraine, went out of control during a test at low-power and demolished the reactor building. The explosion released large amounts of radiation into the atmosphere. 784.320 hectares have been taken from production. Timber production was stopped in 694,200 hectares of forest. It cost 16 billion rubles. Pripyat
Pripyat was a civilied city.A lot of employee were living
there. There was a lot of flats, because there wasn’t other city near the NPP. The city was near to the Chernobyl NPP and Dnyeper River. When the disaster became, city was abandoned, people left their houses and dreams. Some photos of Pripyat The Shield
The Chernobyl NPP was covered with a steel shield in
2016. The shield was 275 meters wide,108 meters long and 36000 tons. The shield was expected to prevent radioactive pollution. It cost 1.6 billion dollars. Affects Of Disaster
4000 people took high doses of radiation,so 64 people
died in NPP. 3890 people died by tyroid cancer or leukemia. The radiation expanded to Europe,Scandinavia and Turkey. Plants got harmed and people got cancer in Black Sea.
Chernobyl Tourism
Some touring agencies still organize tours to Pripyat.
Tourists come from other countries for seeing the buildings and differences. They must take a radiation dedector because eveything is still radioactive.
