The Pernicious Chernobyl Mishap

On 26 April 1986, an experiment on the cooling pump system at Chernobyl power station, in the
then-Soviet city of Pripyat, Ukraine, turned out terrible. The Chernobyl disaster was caused by a
nuclear accident that befell on Saturday 26 April 1986, at the No. 4 reactor in the Chernobyl
Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian.
It is considered the worst nuclear disaster in history! It was Nuclear and radiation accident which
resulted in INES level 7. The death rate were fewer than 100 but the aftermath was unpleasant.
Thousands of cancer cases were linked to radiation exposure. Thyroid Cancer became very
common in individuals. The incident held long-term health effects; long-term death estimates
range from up to 4,000. Dozens more contracted serious radiation sickness; some of these people
later died. The chemical elements escaped into the atmosphere, the radioactivity was spread by
the wind to other areas around the globe. Although many thousands of people were evacuated,
hundreds of thousands more remained in contaminated areas. It effected the Ukraine area
drastically, whereas it did minor damage to the global population. The radioactivity effected the
livestock among with human and caused abnormal births.
Known as the worst Nuclear disaster, the Chernobyl disaster caused a lot of drawback.
Chernobyl is no longer a functioning power plant in Pripyat, Ukraine. However, it was not shut
down immediately after the explosion in nuclear reactor 4. Eventually, they had to prevent the
radiation from spreading. Using helicopters, they dumped more than 5,000 metric tons of sand,
clay and boron onto the burning to prevent further mishaps.
