Type 1 Conditionals
Expresses a real or a very probable situation in the present or future
E.g.:
If you are late, you will miss the bus. = daca vei intarzia, vei pierde
autobuzul.
If Peter has time, he will come to visit us. = daca Petre are timp, va veni
sa ne viziteze.
Water turns into ice if the temperature falls below 0 degrees Celsius.
!!! We can use UNLESS instead of IF…NOT. The verb is always in the
affirmative after unless.
If you don’t hurry, we’ll be late for school.
Unless you hurry, we’ll be late for school.
Type 2 Conditionals
Expresses an imaginary or improbable situation which is highly unlikely
to happen in the present or future
E.g.:
If Peter had time, he would come to visit us. = daca Petre ar avea timp, ar veni
sa ne viziteze.
!!! If Peter was/WERE here, he would tell us what to do. = Daca Petr ar fi aici,
ne-ar spune ce sa facem.
!!!We use If I were you… when we want to give advice:
If I were you, I’d talk to him about my problem. = Daca as fi in locul tau, i-as
spune despre problema.
Type 3 Conditionals
E.g.:
If Peter had had time, he would have come to visit us. = daca Petre arfi avutea
timp, ar fi venit sa ne viziteze.
If she had called earlier, I would have told her about the meeting. = Daca ea
ar fi sunat mai devreme, i-as fi spus de intalnire.
