Guidelines for Writing Executive Summary Report (Only with specific report)
The executive summary provides an overview of the SIP work. The executive summary
needs to be in fewest words. Make sure it is self-sufficient and can be understood in isolation.
Write this towards the end of the project in about two hundred to three hundred words (i.e.,
not more than a page). Use active-voice sentences with strong, enthusiastic, and proactive
language. Executive summary should be written in simple, short sentences intended to be
read by an executive. The executive summary should briefly highlight the below mentioned
points.

1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Objectives, Scope, and Limitations (Briefly describe an overview of your SIP)
Example:
Objectives
This summer internship aimed at studying consumer behaviour towards the financial
newspaper ABC (name of the company). It focused on buying behaviour for a financial
daily based on several parameters such as content, quality, availability of the newspaper,
the relevance of the content etc. In addition, the study investigated certain demographic
parameters such as age, occupation, annual income etc. of the reader. As a part of the
project1, data from 200 users was collected to study the consumer behaviour (include all
project objectives here).
Scope
As part of the internship, the work, entitles doing Marketing and Sales for the company,
generating leads for the company, convincing them and converting them into actual
customers. The product is Hindi and English version of ABC newspaper as printed form
and also the ABC mobile application. The motive of this SIP is to maximize the sales for
the company. Visited corporate offices around the Pune city and pitched them about the
newspaper and its contents. The target market was Chartered Accountants, Company
Secretaries, Stockbrokers, Tax consultants, Banks, NBFCs, Coaching Institutes for
competitive exams (IAS, UPSC, CAT, MAT etc.), People dealing in financial markets or
interested in business news. Feedback was collected from the people who already
subscribed to ABC newspaper and its mobile application.
Limitations
a. The market for ABC newspaper is a niche market. It covers only those people who read
business newspapers.
b. The price of ABC newspaper is Rs 9/- (Monday – Saturday) which is higher than its
competitors such as XYZ which is sold at Rs 3/- and PQR at Rs 3/- etc.
c. The study is limited to cover only corporate as they read business newspapers daily. The
result might be different for households.

1.2 Sources and Methods (Explain the methodology followed in the SIP)
Example
The methodology used to study the consumer behaviour towards financial daily, was
survey method using questionnaire as a tool. A scheduled questionnaire was administered
to the customers for their response and to study the various factors. Questionnaire has
been attached as annexure 1. Factors that play an important role in the buying decision of
a consumer were identified by administering the survey.
Marketing and Sales was an integral part of this internship. Accordingly leads were
generated for the company by contacting prospects and converting them into customers.
The motive of the internship was to maximize the sales for the company. 52 corporate
offices were visited and 20 new leads were generated before lockdown. Emails about the
newspaper and its contents were sent to them. 8 leads were converted.

over last 2 years.

Example

Looking forward, the market is estimated to reach US$ 103.7 billion in 2020 (figure 1). The
sector witnessed growth of 16.5 per cent in value terms between July-September 2018.

The above table gives the details about the occupation of the investors, 62% of them were

business people, 12% of them were professionals, 20% of them were salaried people and 6%

of them were homemakers. The majority of the respondents are business people (62%), in

further analysis, opinions and views are more inclined to respondents whose occupation is

business.
