ABSTRACT

Modern computers which are based on integrated circuits are small enough to fit into mobile
devices. There is a recent innovation in the area of pen computing called 5 Pen Pc
Technology.5 Pen Pc shortly called as P- ISM (Pen -style Personal Networking Gadget
Package), is nothing but the new discovery, which is under developing stage by NEC
Corporation. Pen computer is a field that outline computer like user interface that makes use
of pen-like devices that will be suitable to use in evaluation to modern systems (such as
laptops, desktops etc.). P-ISM is a gadget package including five functions: a CPU pen,
communication pen with a cellular phone function, virtual keyboard, a very small projector,
and a camera. P-ISMs are connected with one another through short-range wireless
technology, if possible like Bluetooth i.e. 802.11BG. The whole set is also connected to the
Internet through the cellular phone function. This personal gadget in a minimalist pen style
enables the ultimate ubiquitous computing. The P- ISM (Pen-style Personal Networking
Gadget Package) consists of a package of 5 pens that all have unique functions, combining
together to create a virtual computing experience. Pen-style Personal Network Gadget
Package (P-ISM) as inevitable tiny tool to easy, fast and convenient access to the internet.
Computing activities have increased the degree of people using personal computers (PCs),
complicated packages and all form of social media applications (Apps.) have emerged within
this short period. Meeting these trends (day to day activities) in more convenient form has led
to the modern sophisticated garget such as Pen-Style Network Gadget Package (P- ISM)
prototype. It is another advancement of innovation for information and yield gadgets, made by
people and this development will take under creating 5 pen pc innovation to the next
development level.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

The current 21st century is considered to be a new era in the field of technology. In
the contemporary world, communication technology is becoming larger. Since the time
computer has been invented engineers have been trying to making it more and more advanced
so that it would become easy to use. Use of pen and paper to send SMSs, e-mails and surf
Internet didn’t seem possible. However, the beginning of Pen-style Personal Networking
Gadget i.e. P-ISM has made things easier and convenient. These are computers in the shape
of different pens each wherein each has a function of its own, but when joint together, they
give us the handling of a complete computer in an easy and compact manner.

The 5 Pen PC technology was designed by Toru Ichihash. It is basically an innovation

in the field of computers in association to the communication field. Rest assured; it will have
a greater impact in the field of computers. People often tend to make notes of the important
things they come across in the most traditional method used and still in use are pen and paper.
On similar but more technical terms, the 5 pen PC technology with the digital pen makes it
possible to obtain a digital copy of the handwritten information, and have it transferred to
digital devices via wireless technologies like Bluetooth, which operates as the main
interconnecting device between different peripherals. The whole set is also coupled to the
Internet which makes the communication even more easy and efficient.

The present theme 5 pen PC innovation points five pens in making a PC. Pen-style
Personal Networking Gadget was made in 2012 by a Japanese Company NEC. One pen is a
focal handling unit, other is a camera, another is a virtual console, another assumes the part of
a projector and the last one is a communicator or telephone. All these are set on a holder and
this holds them as well as energizes their batteries. All these pens associate with each other
by methods for a remote association like Bluetooth or web. This is extremely an interesting
innovation done by Japanese organization in this new time it enables clients to send messages
and messages or some other information straight forwardly to the individual by utilizing an
exceptional PEN.

information or make associations without wires. 5 Pen PC Technology is extremely
operational on the grounds that we can ready to associate at whatever point we require
without having wires. The P-ISMS are associated with each other through remote innovation.
The entire set is likewise associated with the web by means of cell systems. This Pen PC
delivers a virtual console and a screen gadget that is anticipated on a surface where the client

In the modern world of technology, computer has become the basic necessity and not
only an important rather putting it other way it’s now as equal rather more than human can do
so more and more into this tech era, we are replacing human effort with computer technology.
Talking about the communication technology these days, it is increasing rapidly. Talking
about all of the generations of the computers, from the old workstations to the mainstreams
and further other forms of computers, scientists and engineers have been trying to make it
more and more compact.

Systems are reducing from PC to Laptops and these days I pads or tablets have also
replaced laptops to certain extent. This is the point where Pen computers come into spotlight.
They are the type of computers in the shape of different pens each has a function of its own
and when you combine them together, it can even give you the usage of a wholly full – blown
computer. The 5 pen PC technology is a type of a computer which is broken or dismantled
into pieces, each in the size of a small pen. And adding to it, its keyboard and screen are
projected onto surfaces. The 5 pen PC technology can make it possible for you to get a clear
digital copy of your handwritten information.

WORKING METHODOLOGY

When writing a quick note, pen and paper are still the most natural to use. The 5 pen
pc technology with digital pen makes it possible to get a digital copy of handwritten
information, and have it sent to digital devices via Bluetooth. In this device we will find
Bluetooth as the main interconnecting device between different peripherals. P-ISM is a

monitor and keyboard on any flat surfaces from where you can carry out functions that you

The first pen is a CPU, second is a camera, one creates a virtual keyboard, another
projects the visual output and the last one is a communicator (a phone). The whole set is
connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function. The virtual keyboard works on
any flat surface which uses a camera to track the finger movements. On this specific
keyboard, this is done by a 3D IR sensor technology with laser technology to get a full-size
keyboard. You can also change the language input and the layout of the keyboard. This is
more efficient than normal keyboards because we don’t have to buy a new keyboard for every
language. They are also easy to maintain as they are prone to damage by spills, drops and
other malfunctions. The role of the monitor is taken by the LED projector. LED projectors
use LCD technologies for image creation with a difference as they use an array of Light
Emitting Diodes as the light source, negating the need for lamp replacement. Also, it would
not need as much energy to used and with a longer lifetime. The size of the screen is
approximately 1024 × 768 px which is a size of an A4 paper. Digital Camera is useful in
video recording, video conferencing, simply it is called as web cam.

The P-ISM projects an image of a computer from just five pens. From this we can
come up with an idea on how an existing product can improve by using the same technology
as the P-ISM. Example: Satellite navigation system is designed for using in automobiles. It
typically uses a GPS navigation device to obtain date which locates the user on a road in the
unit's map database. Using the road database, the unit can give directions to a specific
location. This device has a great advantage to people who have very little map skills and get
lost easily. A survey conducted by NuStats has also found out that drivers equipped with in-
car navigation units use 12 percent less fuel than people without them because they use a
shorter route. This device typically sticks to your car window but most cars now have
navigation system built in. Even built-in navigation systems take up a lot of internal space
and may not look very attractive. The keyboard of the P-ISM is projected with 3D IR Sensor.
Both technologies could be combined together to create a unique item. The navigation could
be designed as just a pen which project the navigation on the car screen and the inferred
sensor could allow the user to type in the destination in the navigation system.

EXPERIMENTAL SETUP AND RESULTS

4.1 COMPONENTS AND FUNCTIONS

4.1.1 CPU PEN

The functionality of the CPU is finished by a single of the pen. It is also known as a
computing machine. It consists of dual-core processor embedded in it and it works with
WINDOWS operation system. The central processing unit (CPU) is the part of a computer
system that carries out the information of a computer program and is the key element carrying
out the computer's function. The control unit does not execute program commands; fairly, it
directs other parts of the system to do so. The control unit must communicate with both the
arithmetic/logic unit and memory. They can implement information exchange capabilities
within the designs of the Bluetooth.

4.1.2 Communication PEN

P-ISMs are connected with one another through short-range wireless technology. The
whole set is also connected to the Internet through the cellular phone function. They are connected
through Tri-wireless modes (Blue tooth, 802.11B/G, and Cellular) which are made small and kept
in a small pen like device. Blue tooth mechanism is used for exchanging signal status information
between two devices. These techniques have been developed that do not require communication
between the two devices (such as Bluetooth’s Adaptive Frequency Hopping), the most efficient
and comprehensive solution for the most serious problems can be accomplished by silicon
vendors. They can implement information exchange capabilities within the designs of the blue
tooth. The circuit diagram for the 802.11B/G is given below. It is nothing but also type of blue
tooth. Using this connectivity, we can also connect it with the internet and can access it anywhere
in the world.

4.1.3 LED Projector

The light emitting diode (LED) projector creates a projection screen to which the
work or computing carried out via the virtual keyboard can be viewed. It has a well suitable
resolution of 1024 x 768. The projector functionality is directly proportional to the images
display via the input device and has clearer resolution of all images projected through it. The
projector allows for document/research presentation, delivering of lectures, seminar
presentations etc. It gives a good picture display. A video projector receives signal in the
form of video signal and projects the same onto a screen in video format by using a lens
system. The projector uses a thick filament which is heated to high temperature to product a
bright light. Video projector makes use of bright light to display images on screen and the
modern type of projector can remove the problem of dimness, curves and other
inconsistencies through manual settings. Video projectors are widely used in
Schools/colleges for training and the display is done on whiteboard to have clear projection,
even it is used in business conference room presentations, home theatre etc.

4.1.4 Virtual Keyboard Pen

The Virtual Laser Keyboard (VKB) is the ULTIMATE new gadget for PC users. The
VKB emits laser on to the desk where it looks like the keyboard having QWERTY
arrangement of keys i.e., it uses a laser beam to generate a full-size perfectly operating laser
keyboard that smoothly connects to of PC and Most of the handheld devices (PDA's, tablet
PC's). The I-Tech laser keyboard acts exactly like any other "ordinary" keyboard.

4.1.5 Digital Camera Pen

Digital camera is in the shape of pen. It is useful in video recording, video conferencing,

simply it is called as web cam. It is also connected with other devices through Bluetooth. The

major advantage it is small which is easily portable. It is a 360-Degree Visual Communication

Device.

4.1.6 Battery

The most considerable part of portable devices (mobile devices) such as 5pen is the
battery and the storage strength. The longer the battery the more people appreciate it usage.
Batteries are meant to work longer for a working hour but this largely depends on the usage of
the gadget. For 5pen, the battery is lithium-ion battery and has the capacity to minimize
energy. It is cost effective. Durability remains one of the greatest strengths of lithium-ion
batteries.

5.1 ADVANTAGES

Advantages of 5 Pen Pc Technology includes: -

1. Portable: The first and most important advantage of the 5pen pc is that they are portable.
Due to its size, they can be carried anywhere. These PCs are in the shape of pens and
that's why they can be carried in small bags or even in our pockets. A portable computer
is a computer that is designed to be moved from one place to another and includes a
display and keyboard.

2. Wi-Fi technology: Another major important merit of a 5pen pc is that it has a Wi-Fi
technology built in it through which the user can connect to the internet very easily. Wifi,
is a mechanism that allows electronic devices to exchange data wirelessly over a
computer network. A device enabled with Wi-Fi, such as a personal computer, video
game console, smart phone, tablet, or digital audio player, can connect to a network
resource such as the Internet via a wireless network access point.

3. Ubiquitous computing: Ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) is a post-desktop model of

human-computer interaction in which information processing has been thoroughly
integrated into everyday objects and activities.

4. Battery: The advantage of portable type of computers, Tabs, any other devices is battery
as they can be carried anywhere. Though batteries are in small size but they can be used
for longer. The battery that is being used is made up of lithium ion and it can be used for
2weeks when doing normal work

5. Docking Stand: The 5pen PC can be easily placed on docking stand using which we can
able to project LED and virtual keyboard on flat surface.

6. Mobility: It’s easier to handle and use.

7. It will take less internal and external space.

8. Touch and feel the technology.

9. The size and weight will be a lot less and it can potentially cost less as it will use less
material.

10. It can decrease crime level as the pen is less visible and it’s easier to take it out with you.

5.2 DISADVANTAGES

Disadvantages of 5 Pen Pc Technology includes: -

1. Cost: Cost might be high due to technology being new.

2. This 5 Pen Pc is very small in size they can be easily damaged and stolen by anyone
which could cost a lot.

3. Each pen cost a lot and it is not affordable by everyone. It is exorbitantly expensive.

4. It works on wireless technologies and therefore it has limits of range.

5. Easily misplaced: As the pen are small, we could lose them easily.

5.3 APPLICATIONS

1. 5 Pen Pc has a e fingerprinting that makes a gadget more secure which enable just proprietor
to access the PC. So even if we lose it, no one else can access the gadget.

2. Security is maintained by providing an ID proof of an owner and finger print scanner already
installed in a pen.

3. Authentication: The greatest concern by all end users in any newly introduced gadget is the
security features. How well the system or machine designed would protect confidentiality.

4. 5pen has a unique security feature that made it one of the most secured portable devices. The
e-fingerprint mechanism matches user biometric data with the database before granting
authorization. The technology is not just portable, is efficient, and user friendly. It doesn’t
require tedious training before using it.

CONCLUSION

The communication devices are becoming smaller and compact. This is only an
example for the start of this new technology. We can expect more such developments in the

the space can be reduced. Those strategy can be easily shifted beginning individual place to
other anywhere in the world. Hence, they are portable.

The pen navigation system is very demand during the market. The P-ISM is initially
designed for people who want to experiences full sized computer in a small pack up while
traveling but the extra benefits of it being lightweight and pocket sized has widened the target
audience to business user and Police officers. This product will have a very competitive
market as it can easily be created by different company, because the concept of this product is
very easy, but that is if there is an audience worth selling it to.
