Are ICE Detention Centers Necessary?, Jess Alvarenga, 1 Oct. 2021

February 2021, there was a record as low as 13,000 immigrants that were detained in ICE
facilities, while in 2019 there were close to 57,000 immigrants under custody according
to TRAC. Statistics state that 83% of people with pending cases in immigration court
who are not in detention still attend all of their court dates and in the case of those with a
lawyer, the court appearance rate jumps to 96%. Despite the high number of people in
detention centers, it is safe to say that if there were none people would still show up and
follow the rules they are given.

Around or more than 86 million people have legally migrated to the US from 1783 to
2019. Immigration has had both positive and negative effects because of the periods and
situations going on during those times. Politics and laws have changed as time goes on

Studies show that nearly 5.3 million students or 30 percent of all the students that enroll
to go to college or university in 2018 come or are related to immigrant families. The
number of students that are going to college or university and come from immigrant
families has increased because of the opportunities given to them. In California children
or immigrants or immigrants counted as half of the enrolled students in 2018.

In October of 2021immikgration authorities were not allowed to arrest immigrants in

schools, hospitals, and areas that followed the new law set to protect immigrants. The
guidelines that were issued earlier in the year we’re set to be followed. It allowed agents
and officers to focus on recent border crossers, national security threats, and people that
have committed or been a part of any serious crime. This allowed them to be more aware
of the bad things the immigrants were doing instead of detaining people that have done
nothing wrong.

In 2010 there were about 40 million people in the United States and the population
increased as the years passed. This tells us that around one-quarter of the population is
part of the immigration community. About 13 percent of the population a foreign-born
 and if you were to include in the children of the foreign-born around 1 in 4 would be
counted as part of the immigration community.

The people of the body of law who are governing the U.S immigration policy are called
the Immigration of Nationality Act (INA). This immigration policy, later on, allowed the
US to provide 675,000 permeate immigrant visas around the world. The INA helps and
helps give out opportunities to immigrants. Every year the president is required to consult
with congress about things that they can do or provide to the immigrants. There is also a
family-based immigration system that allows families to get benefits and resources.

The United States is known to have the most immigrants among its population. In 2020
August it was said that around 40 million people that lived in the United States were part
of the immigration community. They were either kids or immigrants, parents, the elderly,
and more. The US foreign-born population has a record of 44.8 million according to
2018. Immigrants take up 13.7% of the population and have begun to increase rapidly
throughout time. This article provides evidence and graphs to show the population
growth.

Since 2017, there were roughly around 45 million immigrants in the United States, which
meant that immigrants made up around 14 percent of the population. In the world, the
population is almost 90 million, and around 28 percent fall in the category of immigrants.
About two-thirds of the population of undocumented immigrants have lived in the United
States for around 10 years and most have made a family here. The National Academy of
Science had said that “immigration is integral to the nation’s economic growth.” This
means that immigrants are necessary to the work and economic force.

Ex-president Barack Obama created DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, in
2012. It’s a program that helps protect certain undocumented immigrants from getting
deported and it helps with opportunities. Immigrants that have DACA have had better
opportunities for higher education, becoming homeowners, jobs, and better pay. About
1.3 million live or know a DACA recipient. More than one-third of the DACA recipients
came to the United States at the age of 5 and since then have been part of the population
of the United States.

In 1970 there were fewer than 10 million immigrants in the United States. But as time
passed by and more people began to come to the United States for better opportunities
 and jobs those numbers began to go up and the population increased. In 2018 Mexico was
the most common origin for U.S immigrants with 25 percent of immigrants, while Asia
had a bigger number of immigrants with a population of 28 percent.

They are pictures of the anti-immigration polity during the Holocaust. It provides their
opinions and beliefs on immigration.
