Review Of The Film Dead Poet Society

We should regard Dead Poet society, a masterpiece of director Peter Weir. It is a must movie to
watch for a teenager. It features three main characters, Robin Williams as John Keating, Robert
Sean Leonard as Neil Perry and Ethan Hawke as Todd Anderson. It was released around the
1990s, but it is one of the influential movies regarded till now.

John Keating played the role of an English teacher who tried to influence his students through
poetry. He was trying to teach, “seizing a day”. Neil Perry was a student and popular among his
friends due to his funny attitude, but Neil was suppressed because his dad wishes to see him as
an engineer, but Neil found his love for acting. On the other hand, Todd Anderson was a shy
student and did not able to find his inner confidence.

The story started to build when Keating came to their school as a literature teacher. The
om

curriculum of the school was tough, even teachers had a strict behavior with students. They had
expected the same from John Keating, but they found John different, he had an unconventional
c

teaching method which was more focused on finding true yourself than finding something from
r.

book. It does not mean that John was a person who was not giving any homework or
xe

assignments to students, but his work was more focused on how to live your life being happy.

The movie took elevation when students found about the Death Poets Society. They restarted
the society and it motivated them to do things in their life which their inner self tells them to do. It
es

created chaos, and eventually leads to Neil Perry’s suicide, which further leads to the expulsion

of John Keating from school.

There are several factors which made the movie a perfect masterpiece. Firstly, the actors get
deep into the character and played it full of their passion and energy. Robert Williams showed a
passion of teaching as a true poetry lover even he regarded himself as ‘O captain, my
Captain’.

Secondly, the cinematography was perfect. The scenes which camera covered during Neil’s
suicide, the snow falling outside and sudden transition from one scene to another was nearly
perfect.

Being a teenager, I loved this movie because it showed the circumstances a teenager is going
through in his life. A teenager is bound by many things in society which included their parents'
wishes, teacher’s expectations, etc. In order to achieve success, teenager forgets to live his life
at all and with passing time he finds himself in old age where he wishes to live a teen life again.
