Some political leaders are more concerned with public opinion than others. Some elected

officials learn more heavily on their own judgment than popular sentiment. Which do you

believe is more appropriate in a democracy? Why or why not?

I believe that the first statement, which asserts that some political leaders are more concerned

with public opinion than others, is more appropriate in a democracy. As stated by Abraham

Lincoln, "Democracy is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people." This

implies that power is vested in the nation’s people. In a democratic country, public opinion really

matters because the government's job is to serve its citizens by doing what is just and right for

them. But what really is public opinion? People's perceptions about political matters, politicians,

institutions, and occurrences are referred to as "public opinion." This provides a political

foundation for current leaders. Presidents, members of Congress, and even the Supreme Court

must consider public opinion while governing and making and implementing policies. Public

opinion—its roots, progress, and impact—is a crucial topic of modern political science as the

criterion by which we assess the strength of American democracy. For a democratic country like

ours, it can be widely assumed that the public, who is relied upon to make critical decisions,

should be fully informed on popular topics. The fact that public policies are chosen by the people

is also a fundamental component of our governmental structure. Popular control over legislative

bodies, government executives, and domestic and international policy is a fundamental concept

in our constitutional democracy. Power is derived from the people; therefore, their views should

influence government policy. The promising history of our government acting on these

principles validates our trust in everyone's impressive decisions. I personally believe that if the

public's views on community problems were known and acted upon, our government would be

better. It is prevalently argued that only those who doubt the ability of the people to make smart

decisions are afraid of being criticized. Among the apparent methods to participate in democracy

are to vote or to run for public office and become your community's representative. Democracy,

nevertheless, is more than just voting, and there are several alternative ways to participate in

governance. In reality, the efficient implementation of democracy relies on a country's

citizenry adopting these other means as much as needed. Let your opinions be heard, whether it

be at a political rally, in the media, or by associations campaigning on relevant subjects. Leaders

will only lead in accordance with their own desires and intentions if they do not receive feedback

from the people. Whenever their judgements tend to be oppressive or in violation of human

rights, or when you simply just disagree with them, take the opportunity to have your opinion

known so that the policies can be reviewed. The most effective way to accomplish this is most

likely to join forces with others so that your voice is heard louder. For certain years, there have

been significant concerns about the state of democracy, presumably among the more established

democracies. This is based on the declining level of voter participation in elections, which shows

citizens' lack of interest and involvement. In conclusion, "No one is born a good citizen, no

nation is born a democracy. Rather, both are processes that continue to evolve over a lifetime.

Young people must be included from birth.” as mentioned by Kofi Annan.
