Class 10 - Mathematics
Term-2 Sample Paper - 07 (Standard)

Section A

1. Given, Arithmetic progression is 24,21,18,15,...

Here a = 24 and d = (21 - 24) = -3.
Let the nth term of the given Arithmetic progression be the first negative term.
Then, Tn < 0
{a + (n - 1)d} < 0
{24 +(n - 1) (-3 )}< 0
(27-3n) < 0
27 < 3n
3n > 27 n > 9.
Therefore, n = 10.
Hence, the 10th term is the first negative term of the given Arithmetic progression. .
2. Here we have, ax2 + (4a2 - 3b)x - 12ab = 0
ax2 + 4a2x - 3bx - 12ab = 0
ax(x + 4a) - 3b(x + 4a) = 0
(ax - 3b)(x + 4a)= 0
x = or - 4a are two roots of the equation.
3. Since tangent at a point on a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point. Therefore, OP is
perpendicular to PQ.
In right triangle OPQ, we have

OQ2 = OP2 + PQ2

OQ2 = 72 + 242
OQ2 = 49 + 576
OQ2 = 625
OQ = 25 cm.
4. Let the ratio of radii be x.
Radii of the bases are 3x and 5x and
let ratio of heights be y, Heights of the cylinder and cone will be 3y and 4y.
Ratio of the volumes =

= 81 : 100

We have the following equation,

x2 + - 4 = 0.
Putting x = , we get
LHS = ( )2 + ( ) - 4

Putting x = ,we get
LHS = ( )2 + ( ) - 4

For the above data, the cumulative frequencies can be represented as below:

Here n = 50

From the table, we may observe that cumulative frequency just greater than is 35 belonging
to class interval 20 - 30. So
Median class = 20 - 30
Lower limit (l) of median class = 20
Class size (h) = 10
Frequency (f) of median class = 20
Cumulative frequency (cf) of class preceding median class = 15

Median = l +

= 20 + 5
Thus Median = 25

We have to draw a line segment of length 5 cm and divide it in the ratio 3 : 7.We write the steps of
construction as follows:
Steps of Construction:
i. Draw a line segment AB = 5 cm.
ii. Draw any ray AX making an acute angle down ward with AB.
iii. Mark the poitns A1 ,A2 ,A3 .... A10 on AX such that AA1 = A1A2 .... = A9A10.
iv. Join BA10.
v. Through the point A3 draw a line parallel to BA10. To meet AB at P.
Hence AP : PB = 3 : 7

11.

Radius of each hemispherical end = 7 cm.

Height of each hemispherical part = its radius = 7 cm.
Height of the cylindrical part = (104 - 2 7) cm = 90 cm.
Area of surface to be polished = 2(curved surface area of the hemisphere) + (curved surface area of the
cylinder)
= [2 ( ) + 2 ] sq units

= (616 + 3960) cm2 = 4576 cm2

= = 45.76 dm2 [ 10 cm = 1 dm].
cost of polishing the surface of the solid
= ₹(45.76 10) = ₹ 457.60.
12. OA = 13 cm
OP = OQ = 5 cm
OP and PA are radius and tangent respectively at contact point P.
Therefore, OPA = 90°

In right angled ΔOPA by Pythagoras theorem

PA2 = OA2 – OP2 = 132 – 52 = 169 - 25 = 144
PA = 12 cm
Points A, B and C are exterior to the circle and tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are
equal so
PA = QA
BP = BR
CR = CQ
Perimeter of ABC = AB + BC + AC
= AB + BR + RC + AC [From figure]
= AB + BP + CQ + AC = AP + AQ
= AP + AP = 2AP = 2 12 = 24 cm
So, the perimeter of ABC = 24 cm.

OR

According to the question,

AB is the chord passing through the centre

So, AB is the diameter
Since, angle in a semi circle is a right angle
∠APB= 90°
By using alternate segment theorem
We have ∠ABP = ∠APT = 30°
Now, in APB
∠BAP + ∠APB + ∠ABP = (Angle sum property of triangle)
∠BAP = 180° – 90° – 30° = 60°
Also, ∠BAP = ∠APT + ∠PTA (Exterior angle property)
60° = 30° + ∠PTA
∠PTA = 60° – 30° = 30°
We know that sides opposite to equal angles are equal
AP = AT
In right triangle ABP:

BA : AT = 2 : 1
13. In Fig, the electrician is required to reach point B on the pole AD. So, BD = AD – AB = (5 – 1.3)m = 3.7 m.
Here, BC represents the ladder. We need to find its length, i.e., the hypotenuse of the right triangle BDC.
Now, we take sin 60°.
So, = sin 60° or
Therefore, BC = = 4.28 m (approx.) (by taking )
i.e., the length of the ladder should be 4.28 m.
Now,

i.e., DC = = 2.14 m (approx.)

Therefore, she should place the foot of the ladder at a distance of 2.14 m from the pole.
14. i. Let production in a 1st year be a unit and increase in production (every year) be d units.
Increase in production is constant, therefore unit produced every year forms an AP.
Now, a3 = 6000
a + 2d = 6000 a = 6000 - 2d ..(1)
and a7 = 7000 a + 6d = 7000
(6000 - 2d) + 6d = 7000 4d = 1000 [using eq. (1)]
d = 250
When d = 250, eq. (1) becomes
a = 6000 - 2(250) = 5500
Production in 1st year = 5500
ii. Production in fifth year
a5 = a + 4d = 5500 + 4(250) = 6500

iii. Total production in 7 years = (5500 + 7000) = 43750.
