Câu 3:
A basic definition of a synonym is a word that has a similar or identical
meaning to another word it is compared to. An antonym on the other
hand, is when the second word is opposite to the first one.
For example, a synonym for ‘big’ is ‘large’. An antonym for ‘big’ is ‘small’.
Câu 4:
a. Collocation is a group of two or more words that like to hang out
together.
b. 3 types:
o Verb Collocations
Verb collocations are those types of collocations that are used
extensively and tend to involve a verb + noun phrase in the
day to day situations. Ex: Pay a Bill: I refuse to pay a bill if I am
not satisfied with the service.
o Adjective Collocations
When you add adjectives with nouns and adverbs, it forms
adjective collocations. Here are a few examples of adjective
collocations. Ex: Big: Big disappointment, big mistake.
o Noun Collocations
In Noun collocations, a verb and a noun can be used to form a
group of words. Ex: Service industry, tea leaves, dogs bark,
water flows, paper flutters, blurred vision, critical analysis.
Câu 5:
a. Reformulation : translators have to express something in a
completely differrent way.
b. Distinguish Imitation, Paraphrase and Metaphrase:
- Imitation: represented free translation. Translator can abandon
the text of original as he sees fit.
- Paraphrase: represented sense-for-sense translation. Translation
with latitude, where the author is kept in view by translator so as
not to be lost.
- Metaphrase: represented word-for-word translation. Turning an
author word by word, and line by line, from one language into
another.
Câu 6:
Simplification is tentatively defined as the tendency to simplify the
language used in translation. The phenomena in simplification are
shortened sentences, simpler structure, and less ambiguous expression.
