Abstract:

The current study investigated the relationship between abusive supervision and organizational

citizenship behavior in restaurant industry after covid-19 due to detrimental effects of this

pandemic on business world. The data were collected from employees of restaurants of

Faisalabad, Pakistan. The study concluded that employees are experiencing low organizational

citizenship behavior due to abusive supervision. The study has practical implications.

Abusive supervision is defined as “subordinates’ perceptions of the extent to which their

supervisors engage in the sustained display of hostile verbal and nonverbal behaviors, excluding

physical contact” (Tepper, 2000, p. 178).

Organizational citizenship behavior is defined as “discretionary actions that in the aggregate

promote organizational effectiveness” (Organ, 1988).

Restaurant is a place where people pay to sit and eat meals that are cooked and served on the

premises. Multiple restaurants are working in Faisalabad. Few of them are: Silver spoon, Forks

and Knives etc. Being a huge industry, it is important to study if there is any relationship

between abusive supervision and organizational citizenship behavior of the employees working

in this industry.

Objective of the study:

 To investigate if there is any relationship between abusive supervision and organizational

citizenship behavior of restaurant employees of Faisalabad.

Hypothesis of the study:

Null hypothesis: There is no relationship between abusive supervision and organizational

citizenship behavior.

Alternative hypothesis: There is a negative relationship between abusive supervision and

organizational citizenship behavior.

Methods:

Sample: Data were collected from 50 low level employees of several well-known restaurants of

Faisalabad.

Analysis Technique: Since there was one independent variable i.e., abusive supervision and one

dependent variable i.e., organizational citizenship behavior in this study, so the most suitable

technique for data analysis was correlation. Descriptive statistics were also calculated. The

software used for data analysis was Statistical Package for Social Sciences i.e., SPSS.

Results:

Table 1 shows descriptive statistics for variables of the study.

Table 2 shows the correlation between abusive supervision and organizational citizenship

behavior.
