Why learning a good communication skill is important in globalization?

First, let’s define what is globalization and communication. Globalization is a term that describes the
rising interdependence of the world's economies, cultures, and populations as a result of cross-border
trade in commodities and services, technology, and investment, people, and information flows while
communication is the process of delivering and receiving messages via verbal or nonverbal means, such
as voice or oral communication, writing and graphical representations, as well as signs, gestures, and
behavior, is known as communication. Communication can be defined as "the formation and
interchange of meaning."

There are many times that bad use of communication lead to a misunderstanding. In globalization an
issue of racism is a huge one I researched some example on how racism had a huge impact in our life.
Does anyone of you know who is George Floyd? I know that many of you heard what happened to
George Floyd but let me tell you again how George Floyd experience the negativity of racism. George
Floyd was an African-American, a store clerk suspected that Floyd used a counterfeit of $20 bill. During
the arrest one of the four policemen who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyds neck and back for about
9 minutes and 29 seconds that later on lead to George Floyd death before his last breath Floyd tried to
tell the policemen that he can’t breathe but the policemen didn’t believe him. George Floyd tragic story
tell us that some people are being racist just because of our difference in skin color. We must avoid
identifying people by race or ethnic group and stereotyping.

Another issue that we need to stop doing is the sexism. Sexism is the prejudice and discrimination
based on sex and gender. We should use gender neutral words and phrase rather than gender-biased
ones. As I was doing my research I read a news article stating that girls identified sexism as a priority
issue for our generation. According to the result of their survey based on a 11 to 21 years old
respondent thought that 87% women were being judged for their appearance than their ability. Also,
most of the 13 years old respondent stated that they had experience sexual harassment this included
being shouted and whistled at, sexual graffiti and pornography, sexual jokes and taunts as well as
unwanted sexual attention, unwanted touching and stalking. 78% of the respondents said that they
found this behavior threatening. I believe that woman can also do what man can.

In gender and sexual orientation there is the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or
questioning or in short the LGBTQ we all know that the LGBTQ raised so many issues regarding the
sexuality there is the statements from the Bible disapproving the existence of the LGBTQ person
according to 1 Timothy 1:9-10 “Understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the
lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike
their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality,
enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,” but for me I believe that
everyone has the rights to choose who they want to be or what they want to be I think we should still
respect their choice because they are still a human being that God created their beliefs may be different
but they still deserve to be respected. We must use the words that they prefer because words can hurt
them.

Next is our differences in our social classes there is the classism. Classism is the prejudice against a
person just because of their social class we tend to use different word pertaining to the social classes of
a person, for the one who is from the upper class people call the ‘conyo’ they are the one who speak
idiosyncratic mix of English and Tagalog while we use the word ‘jejemon’ to pertain to the people who
look poor and out of style. We should start using word that will not discriminate anyone we can use the
word upper class instead of conyo and we can use the word less privileged instead of the word jejemon
its more acceptable than the word conyo and jejemon. We must avoid discriminating someone because
of social classes. Why do we need to care if someone is poor or if someone is rich? we are all human
respect everyone.

Ageism is also an issue it’s the discrimination against other people because of their age. We tend to
think that older people are less physically, intellectually or emotionally able than other age groups.
Maybe it’s true that they less physically, intellectually or emotionally able than other age groups but
always remember that they may not be that energetic or strong now but in their younger days they may
be better than us so regarding of their age we should respect them. And also, I don’t believe that the
older people are the only one who need to be respected as I keep saying everyone deserve respect.
Instead of using old person we can use the word senior citizen or young people for the teenagers

Lastly, the discrimination against a person who has a disability. They may be look different than us but
they still don’t deserve all the discrimination or judgement they are receiving. What so wrong being a
disable person? It is wrong to be a person with vision impairment? It is their fault that they born with
that or they ended up like that? Nothing is wrong with them but I know for sure that there is something
wrong to the people who discriminate them. Stop calling them abnormal but instead use the word
atypical because disabilities are atypical but not necessarily abnormal.

A better communication can lead us into a better world stop the discrimination we all have our
differences but in the end we are all still the same. You may look different from me, but does it give me
the rights to discriminate you? Start practicing to use the words that can’t hurt someone. Stop using the
words that can hurt someone. Everyone has the rights to choose how they want to be called and we
should respect their choices. Without the best use of communication, we cannot have the best
globalization. That are the reasons why a good communication skill is important in globalization.
