PREPOSITIONAL STRUCTURES

A great number of adjectives are followed by prepositional structures,

made up of a preposition required by the adjective and a name (animate or
inanimate) or a gerund.
He is afraid of me.
He is afraid of spiders.
He is afraid of being left in the dark.
In this respect, adjectives resemble verbs, as they have the same
morphological behaviour. Unlike verbs, adjectives are rarely followed by an
infinitive or a gerund without a preposition:
