“JUDGEMENT DAY”
FADE IN:
INTRO
KILGHARRAH (V.O.)
In a land where magic is all but
myth, the destiny of a great kingdom
rests on the shoulders of the most
powerful sorcerer ever to walk the
earth. His name? Merlin.
PREVIOUSLY ON MERLIN...
TITLES
[1] BLACK SCREEN. FADE IN...
EXT. BEACH (SEA CLIFFS) – DAY 1.
Overcast. Establishing shot of the ocean. Waves caper over each

other. Wind roars. Seagulls cry. Overcast skies. PULL BACK slowly
until the CAMERA passes MERLIN’s shoulder. We see he is standing on
a cliff by the beach, overlooking the expanse of the rolling sea. A
pensive look is on his face.
ARTHUR approaches from behind. As he nears, MERLIN speaks.
MERLIN
It looks infinite, doesn’t it? Seeing
it like this, it’s difficult to
believe it has an end.
ARTHUR takes his place at MERLIN’s side.
ARTHUR
Every beginning has an end, even if
it’s beyond sight.
(beat)
It will be a challenge to maneuver
our soldiers over these cliffs.
You’re certain this is the best place
to make our stand?
MERLIN
I am.

White waves break against the faces of the cliffs.
ARTHUR
The tide is coming.
(beat)
We should head back. We’ll need time
to rally the men.
ARTHUR starts down the cliff. After a beat, MERLIN follows.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (DRAWING ROOM) – DAY 1.
[2] ELAINE sits at the head of the table and stares ahead, an empty
look in her eyes. The Disir have dismissed her. She has no orders
to follow (or disobey). No purpose. Nothing. She does not stir as
LORD VORTIGERN, LORD MALEAGANT, and LADY LAUDINE enter.
LORD VORTIGERN
(clears throat)
My Lady. Times are troubled as of
late.
He awaits a response. ELAINE does not acknowledge him.
LORD VORTIGERN
In light of recent events, it would
seem destiny has turned against us.
ELAINE
(beat)
Well, I suppose so, given that I have
been forsaken by the Triple Goddess
and cut off from the Disir; Mordred
has abandoned our cause and rendered
all my work useless; not to mention
my sister is intent on stealing the
throne — and, even now, Emrys and
Arthur live — Yes, you could say
destiny has turned against us!
LADY LAUDINE
...My Lady, that may be how it seems,
but hope remains. If we fulfill the
Goddess’ wishes, perhaps you can
regain her favor.
ELAINE
How do you suggest I do that when
Mordred is too spineless to play his
part?

LORD MALEAGANT
What if we knew how to rekindle his
desire?
ELAINE pauses, eyes narrowing at them.
LADY ELAINE
How?
LORD MALEAGANT
Never mind how. If we can convince
Mordred to fulfill his destiny, do we
have your word that you'll keep the
Judgment at bay?
ELAINE
(beat – she has nothing to lose)
You have my word.
CUT TO:
EXT. SANCTUARY – DAY 1.
[3] Establishing.
CUT TO:
SERIES OF SHOTS: INT. SANCTUARY (ARMOURY / HEALING CHAMBERS) / EXT.

SANCTUARY (GROUNDS) – CONTINUOUS.
The Sanctuary is alive with activity and chatter as the SUBJECTS

make ready for war.
In the armoury, weapons are sharpened and armour is fitted.
On the Sanctuary grounds, ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS practice with swords,

maces, bows and arrows, knife-throwing — they’re doing everything
they can to prepare.
In the healing chambers, medicines and other supplies are packed.
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (GREAT HALL) – CONTINOUS.
MERLIN and ARTHUR march side by side. SUBJECTS move hither and
thither, making preparations for war.
ARTHUR
As soon as everything is in order,
we’ll head out. When Elaine sees our
army leave the Sanctuary, she’ll get
the message.

MERLIN
I’ll ensure not a single man or woman
stands idle.
ARTHUR
Why, so you don’t have to do any of
the work?
MERLIN
Exactly.
As MERLIN walks on ahead, ARTHUR calls after him...
ARTHUR
Merlin.
MERLIN stops to face him.

ARTHUR
What happens tomorrow will change
everything.
MERLIN
I know. So we’re going to be ready
for it.
He and ARTHUR exchange a nod. MERLIN continues forward.
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (ARMOURY) – CONTINUOUS.
GWEN moves through the armoury, overseeing SUBJECTS and SOLDIERS.
GWEN
Swords need to be sharpened, spears
as well – Get more servants down here
to help the soldiers with their
armour. Let’s get moving!
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (HALLWAY) – CONTINUOUS.
LANCELOT, GWAINE, PERCIVAL, and ELYAN stride down the hall with
purpose. They have not yet donned their battle garments.
ELYAN
This will be the first battle we’ve
fought without Leon.
PERCIVAL
Then we'd better make him proud.

CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (MERLIN’S CHAMBERS) – CONTINUOUS.
MERLIN packs choice belongings in his bag. His eyes land on the
wooden Dragon his father carved for him. He slows. Picks it up and
studies it for a beat. Then he tucks it away in his bag.
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (ARMORY) – DAY 1.
[4] GWEN and the KNIGHTS suit up for battle. PERCIVAL and ELYAN
assist one another.
From across the room, LANCELOT watches GWEN tighten her vambraces.
Oh, how lovely she is... Perceiving LANCELOT’s gaze, GWAINE nudges
him with a knowing smile.
GWAINE
I can see things haven't changed for
you.
LANCELOT
(busies himself with armour)
I do not know what you mean.
GWAINE
Every man falls in love with
Guinevere at some point, even if it’s
only for a moment.
After a beat, LANCELOT finds his gaze drawn back to GWEN.
LANCELOT
(soft – to Gwaine)
What am I next to two kings? There is
nothing I could give her that Arthur
could not provide a hundred times
over.
GWAINE
Maybe it isn’t material things she’s
after.

As LANCELOT’s stare finds its way back to GWEN, she happens to lock
eyes with him. LANCELOT smiles, pondering over GWAINE’s words. GWEN
gives a gentle smile of her own.
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (MORDRED’S CHAMBERS) – DAY 1.
[5] MORGANA pushes open the door to MORDRED’s chambers. At a chair

beside the crackling hearth, he sits, eyes closed.
MORGANA
I missed you at breakfast.
His eyes open at her voice.
MORDRED
I had not the appetite.
MORGANA approaches and slides to the floor at his feet. She studies
his face with concern.
MORGANA
Are you well, Mordred?
MORDRED
(beat – looks elsewhere)
What would you say if I told you my
desire to kill Arthur has been
shaken?
MORGANA stares. She must tread carefully. He cannot know of her

allegiances just yet – he can't know she's sided with his enemies.
MORGANA
I would ask if you had lost your
head.
MORDRED
Perhaps I have.
(beat)
I wish I was as certain of my beliefs
as you are. But ever since... ever
since what I did to Galahad...
MORGANA
(pained)
An accident... for which I have
forgiven you.
MORDRED
Nevertheless, I have questioned
whether we are truly doing what is
best for our people. Perhaps... we
are wrong. Perhaps war is not the
answer.

Pitying, MORGANA studies his face.
MORGANA
I want you to have something.
From a pocket, MORGANA draws out Galahad’s toy soldier with the red
cross.
MORGANA
This was Gally’s –
MORDRED
No, Morgana. I couldn’t –
MORGANA
Please. You so remind me of him.
MORDRED
(protesting)
Morgana...
MORGANA takes MORDRED’s hands and places the toy soldier in them.
She closes his fingers around it.
MORDRED studies the toy for a moment before looking back at her.
Beat.
MORDRED
(soft)
If you asked me to go with you now, I
would. There is nothing for me here.
Lead, and I will follow you this
time.
MORGANA can't bear it. She has to be honest with him.
MORGANA
Oh, Mordred...
(touches his face)
I feel I am to blame for what’s
become of you.
(beat)
I must confess something...
LADY LAUDINE opens the door and enters.
LADY LAUDINE
Mordred. We wish to speak with you.

INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (CORRIDOR) – DAY 1.
Ticked, MORDRED storms down the corridor, followed by LADY LAUDINE,

LORD VORTIGERN, and LORD MALEAGENT.
MORDRED
So, I am to follow you down to the
Crystal Cave and do exactly as you
say with no explanation whatsoever?
LORD MALEAGANT
Mordred, your compliance is vital.
Your followers are disappointed with
your inactivity. They begin to lose
faith.
MORDRED seizes LORD MALEAGANT by the throat and shoves him up

against the wall. LORD VORTIGERN and LADY LAUDINE watch, startled.
MORDRED
(seething)
I have done EVERYTHING you’ve asked!
What more could you possibly want
from me?! The only reason I agreed to
this was to avenge my people and the
woman I loved!
LORD MALEAGANT swallows his fears and gets a hold of himself.
LORD MALEAGANT
Then, would you not like to see her
again?
See her? The light in MORDRED’s eyes changes immediately as he

realizes what he’s saying. The answer is yes, without question or
hesitation.
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY STABLES – DAY 1.
[6] ALL are suited up for battle. MERLIN, ARTHUR, GWEN, the
KNIGHTS, and a few SUBJECTS and SOLDIERS mount their HORSES. This
is a pivotal moment for all of them.
ARTHUR
Let’s move out!
CUT TO:

EXT. SANCTUARY GROUNDS – DAY 1.
ARTHUR’S ARMY moves out. Shields and spears glint in the sunlight.
Banners bearing the Pendragon crest flap in the wind.
Whatever fortune may bring, they are ready to face their foes.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTAL CAVE – DAY 1.
The icy-blue glow from the crystals fills the cavern. LORD
MALEAGANT, LORD VORTIGERN, LADY LAUDINE, and MORDRED enter.
MORDRED
(eager, frantic)
You said I could see her. You said
she was here. Where is she?
LADY LAUDINE
Patience, Mordred.
LADY LAUDINE nods to the other two lords. They come forward. The
LORDS and LADY take hands, forming a semicircle before MORDRED.
LAUDINE/VORTIGERN/MALEAGANT
(incanting)
Ārīsan, gāst, fram dēaþ. Lǣdan hē
tōweard thē pæth wrǣththu. Tyrnan hē
bæc tō deorcnysse. Bringan ānlic
were!
The three sorcerers open their eyes. Gold flash. MORDRED scans the
cave, eager, timid, when...
KARA (O.C.)
Mordred.
MORDRED stops. Can it be? Slowly, he turns around. Across from him
stands dear KARA, a look of pity on her soft face. She is deathly
pale, with an unnatural glow about her skin.
MORDRED
(fragile)
Kara. How...?
LADY LAUDINE, LORD VORTIGERN, and LORD MALEAGANT retreat to give

MORDRED and KARA privacy.
MORDRED
(voice falters)
Oh, Kara...

MORDRED runs to KARA and throws his arms around her. Oh, dear
KARA... She returns the embrace in full, emotional.
KARA
I’ve missed you. I’ve missed you so
much, Mordred.
They pull back. MORDRED cups his hands around her face, studying
it, taking her in...
MORDRED
(emotional)
Are you – are you real? This must be
an illusion. How can this be?
KARA
No. No, it's me, Mordred. I'm here.
MORDRED frantically kisses her face, cheeks, nose, eyelids –
everywhere he can. KARA tries to talk while he does this,
occasionally returning his kisses.
KARA
Mordred, such a breach of the veil
between life and death cannot be
sustained for long. We haven't much
time.
He pauses to behold her, tears of joy easing down his face. KARA
presses tender kisses to his hands.
MORDRED
(gazing heavenward)
The gods are indeed merciful to grant
me this moment with you.
(looking back at her)
Kara, I... I am so sorry. I should’ve
saved you.
KARA
You did everything you could,
Mordred. It is not you who is
responsible for my death.
KARA pulls him into another embrace, kissing the side of his head.
Her loving demeanor changes into sugar-coated bitterness.
KARA
(whispers in his ear)
It is Arthur.

MORDRED pulls back. The sorrow in his eyes shifts as he takes this
in. Conflicting loyalties fight for dominance inside him.
MORDRED
Kara... I believe Merlin has changed.
Perhaps there is even still goodness
in Arthur –
KARA
(disbelieving scoff)
Arthur? He ordered I hang for what I
am — for what you are.
(swallows, voice quivering)
Do you know what it’s like to hang,
Mordred? To feel your neck breaking
like a twig?
MORDRED flinches, wavering.
KARA
(tender)
Mordred. I have known great peace
just to watch you avenge our kind.
Only you can restore justice to the
world.
MORDRED
Is it justice?
KARA
(emotional, pained)
Do you forget this is the man who
uses magic for his own gain one day,
only to slaughter our people the
next? Have you forgotten the screams
of those condemned to the pyre for
gifts they didn't choose? Have you
forgotten the innocent blood that
stained the headsman's axe? Or the
“compassion” your "merciful king"
showed when you begged for my life?
Her words take effect. They tug all the right strings, rousing his
love of his people and hate of that tyrant... Like Lady Macbeth,
she strokes his face with such love, whilst filling his ears with
her poison.
KARA
(soft whisper)
He gives no second chances, Mordred.
If he stole back the crown, the
persecution would only resume. Arthur
Pendragon must pay. Tell me you will
not fail me now. Tell me, Mordred.

It is his responsibility to avenge his people, isn't it? His

responsibility to fight back for all the genocide. MORDRED gazes at
her. Considers. Then he sets his jaw, determined.
MORDRED
I will not fail you, Kara. Not again.
I swear it.
KARA smiles, relieved.
KARA
I believe you.
MORDRED sighs. He touches her face. How he yearns for her to

stay... He leans closer and gives her a long, gentle kiss. Once
their lips break away, KARA steps backwards, out of frame, while
his eyes are still closed.
MORDRED’s eyes open. They register his surroundings.
KARA is gone.
But it doesn’t matter: the damage is done. MORDRED stares ahead,

dark and determined. He has been left with a burning new resolve to
either end this war with fire or go up in smoke with it.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH – DAY 1.
[7] On the beach, tents are pitched, HORSES tethered, supplies

organized.
CUT TO:
INT. COMMAND TENT – DAY 1.
At the head of the table, ARTHUR hovers over maps depicting their
seaside location. GWEN stands at his left, MERLIN at his right.
LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, ELYAN, GWAINE, and several SOLDIERS surround
the table.
ARTHUR
The knights will be positioned here,
where they can best defend our
vanguard. With luck, we’ll be able to
hold off the enemy until further help
arrives.
LANCELOT
Exactly what form will this help
take?

ARTHUR, MERLIN, and GWEN exchange uncertain glances.
ARTHUR
We... don’t know.
That's comforting. The KNIGHTS and SOLDIERS look rather skeptical.
GWEN
But Merlin did say his vision
promised we’d receive aid if we
fought by the sea.
PERCIVAL
Just “by the sea”? Not very specific.
Several of them look to MERLIN, who feels a bit awkward and at a

loss.
GWAINE
So, our plan for the biggest battle
of our time is to stake out in
unfamiliar terrain, provoke our enemy
into fighting, and just... wait for
something to show up and help us —
but we’re not sure what it is?
ARTHUR
Look... If Merlin trusts it, so do I.
GWEN
And I.
The KNIGHTS and ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS remain unconvinced. MERLIN gives a

weak smile. If only he completely trusted it...
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (ELAINE’S CHAMBERS) – DAY 1.

[8] MORGANA and ELAINE sit at a table, tea set before them. They
stir their tea, sip, stir again; repeat. They carry on like this
for a beat, silently loathing each other’s company.
MORGANA
What did the Lords want with Mordred?
ELAINE
That is none of your concern.
MORGANA
I am queen, sister. Anything
concerning Mordred concerns me.

ELAINE
You are not queen yet, “sister.”
Beat of silence. MORGANA sets her teacup down and reclines.
MORGANA
May I ask you something?
ELAINE
If you must.
MORGANA
(beat – studying Elaine)
What is the Circle of Fate?
ELAINE’s spoon clatters. She clears her throat; attempts to

recover. A rather telling reaction.
ELAINE
Where did you hear that?
MORGANA
(casual)
Someone mentioned it —
ELAINE
You have not spoken of this to
Mordred, have you?
MORGANA
Why does it matter?
ELAINE
Under no circumstances are you to
bring this up to anyone ever again.
Is that understood?
MORGANA
I don’t take orders from you.
MORDRED throws open the doors, followed by LORD VORTIGERN, LORD

MALEAGANT, and LADY LAUDINE.
MORDRED
Elaine! I have seen Arthur and his
army in the crystals. They have set
up camp by the sea. They are ready to
face us.
MORGANA
(alarmed)
What? Now?

ELAINE looks to MORDRED with a smile. The Lords and Lady have
succeeded: his desire for revenge has been reawakened. MORGANA
stares at him. Since when was he was so motivated?
ELAINE
And we are ready to face them.
(to Vortigern)
The time has come, Lord Vortigern.
Prepare the men for battle.
Anxious, MORGANA glances between her smirking adversaries. Merlin

and Arthur better know what they’re doing...
CUT TO:

[9] Dusk. Sunset. A peach hue fills the sky. GWEN strolls down the
beach barefoot to the ocean, leaving a trail of footprints in her
wake. In her hands, she bears the crown she received on the day of
her coronation. She stops, ankle deep in water, and gazes out over
the horizon, solemn. She closes her eyes as Leon’s final words echo
in her head.
LEON (V.O.)
Guinevere... One day, you will find
happiness that does not flee from
you. Your suffering will be
explained, your troubles laid to
rest... You will know the peace your
pain has earned.
Deep breath. GWEN’s eyes open. Swinging her arm back, she tosses
the crown out into the ocean and watches as it sinks beneath the
waves. Down goes the crown and the suffering it brought. Relief and
acceptance fill her eyes.
CUT TO:
INT. COMMAND TENT – NIGHT 1.
ARTHUR studies a map at his table, thoughtful, when GWEN enters.
ARTHUR
Guinevere.
He sets the map down and rises.
GWEN
I need to speak with you.

From the serious expression on her face, ARTHUR knows what’s

coming. There is mutual understanding in their gazes. For a moment,
neither is sure how to proceed.
GWEN
A lot has happened these past weeks,
hasn’t it?
ARTHUR nods, slow and deliberate.
GWEN
It really is amazing when you think
about how far we’ve come from where
we started.
ARTHUR
(bittersweet smile)
We were so well matched then, weren’t
we?
(smile fades – beat)
Where did we go wrong?
GWEN
I don't think wrong or right have
anything to do with it... Once upon a
time, there was you and me. And it
was a beautiful time, and I will
never regret a second of it. But...
ARTHUR
(helping her out)
But things have changed. ...I've
changed. I think you have too.
GWEN nods.
ARTHUR
(beat)
The throne is still yours, if you
want it.
GWEN
No, thank you... I have never
suffered more than when I was queen.
I know now that I don’t need a title
to make a difference in this world.
GWEN steps forward and takes his hand, tears in her eyes.
GWEN
I would not be who I am today if not
for you.

They gaze at each other, taking in the gravity of their decision

and what this will mean for them. ARTHUR leans forward and kisses
her on the cheek; GWEN closes her eyes, taking it in just as she
did the first time he kissed her, by the window in her little
village house, when times were simpler.
ARTHUR pulls back slightly, beholding her.
ARTHUR
(soft)
For every kiss we’ve shared, rule
we’ve broken, and evil we’ve
conquered... thank you, Guinevere.
GWEN smiles tearfully. She gives ARTHUR’s hand a squeeze and lets
it go. Breathing deeply, she leaves the tent. ARTHUR watches after
her. He exhales, almost relieved. It’s better this way.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON CITY (STREETS) – DAY 1.
[10] Dusk. The streets of London are packed with ENEMY SOLDIERS.
From rooftops and paveways, CIVILIANS, who remember ELAINE from the
Old Bailey, watch as she and her ENEMY SOLDIERS march through the
streets. The LORDS, LADY LAUDINE, MORGANA, and a very determined
MORDRED take the lead beside a blindfolded ELAINE.
CIVILIANS back away to avoid drawing attention to themselves.
CUT TO:
GWAINE, LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, ELYAN, and MERLIN gaze over the ocean.
GWAINE tosses out a stone and watches as it gets swallowed by the
waves.
GWAINE
No doubt Elaine has gotten the
message and left by now.
LANCELOT
We should send a scout to make an
estimation of her army.
ELYAN
(glancing at Merlin)
I don’t think that will be necessary.
PERCIVAL
Why not?

ELYAN
Because we have Merlin.
The four KNIGHTS stare at MERLIN. Looking up, MERLIN glances

between them.
MERLIN
(turning to leave)
Fine. I’ll go and scout the area to
evaluate her army...
LANCELOT grabs MERLIN by the arm to stop him.
LANCELOT
No, Merlin. Just use magic.
MERLIN pauses. Oh. Right.

GWAINE
You know, for the “most powerful
sorcerer ever to walk the earth,” you
tend to be rather forgetful.
MERLIN spares a smirk. Mustering up his concentration, he channels

his MAGIC SIGHT.
CUT TO:
SERIES OF SHOTS: EXT. BEACH / FOREST / MOTORWAY / NEIGHBORHOODS /

LONDON CITY – CONTINUOUS. MERLIN’S MAGIC SIGHT.
At astounding speed, MERLIN’s MAGIC SIGHT travels across the beach

to the surrounding forest, zooms past forests, the motorway, and
neighborhoods until it breaks into London City, where it soars over
rooftops.
Finally, his MAGIC SIGHT slows when he finds ELAINE and the ENEMY
ARMY in the streets. His MAGIC SIGHT lingers on the front of the
army where ELAINE, MORDRED, and MORGANA ride. MERLIN’s MAGIC SIGHT
rises to scan the army behind them: it reveals that ELAINE leads an
unbelievable multitude of ENEMY SOLDIERS through the streets of
London.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH – CONTINUOUS.
MERLIN’s eyes shoot open, flashing gold. He takes a breath. He

finds himself staring ahead once more, surrounded by KNIGHTS who
look on as they wait for him to report what he has learned.
LANCELOT
What did you see?

MERLIN
(filled with dread)
If wars were won by numbers alone...
we wouldn’t stand a chance.
CUT TO:
INT. ARTHUR’S TENT – DAY 1.
[11] Extravagant tent for the King. The KNIGHTS and MERLIN have
relayed what they learned to ARTHUR.
ARTHUR
When do you think they will arrive?
MERLIN
By dawn tomorrow.
ARTHUR
We are severely outnumbered.
(getting an idea – to knights)
Ride out into the city and recruit as
many people as you can. We need all
the help we can get.
ELYAN
I doubt any civilians would agree to
fight for a man they don’t believe
exists.
LANCELOT
Actually, it is not so far-fetched.
After witnessing the worldwide loss
of electricity, the Lords’ display of
magic, and the phenomena in the sky,
I think they will be open to rallying
under a new leader — someone to guide
them through these strange times.
PERCIVAL
And from what I hear, a fight broke
out in Buckingham Palace. No one
knows who’s in power anymore. The
people need someone to follow.
MERLIN
(shaking his head)
They're scared. I don’t think they‘d
want to get involved. Besides, they
know nothing of our kind of warfare:
guns are useless against sorcerers.

GWAINE
They won’t need guns. We can equip
them with the magic artifacts we
procured from Camelot.
ARTHUR
Merlin, you are the one who assured
me of your faith in mankind. You said
all they needed was to be roused. Do
you still believe that?
MERLIN
(long beat – he considers it)
Yes.
GWAINE
Then, it’s settled. We'll ride out to
the city and see if we can round up
some reinforcements.
CUT TO:
EXT. COUNTRYSIDE – DAY 1.

The ENEMY SOLDIER steers his HORSE away, shaken.
From alongside MORDRED, MORGANA has been observing this interaction

with a look of curious concern.
MORGANA
They’re terrified of her. That’s why
they serve you.
MORDRED’s gaze is locked ahead. He has single-minded determination.

MORDRED
They serve because they are loyal to
me.

Loyalty bought by fear is readily
sold again when a better price is
offered.
(beat – lowers her voice)
Elaine controls you with a similar
tactic.
MORDRED
I am my own man.
MORGANA
(low, urgent)
When we spoke this morning, that was
true. Now I'm not so sure. What
happened, Mordred?
MORDRED
I was reawakened.
MORGANA
Or put to sleep. Open your eyes.
Elaine is manipulating you, just as I
did for the Battle of Camlann. You
are nothing to her.
Riled, MORDRED pulls his HORSE to a sudden stop and turns on

MORGANA. His dark expression paired with his scarred face makes him
look more intimidating than ever.
MORDRED
I’ve heard enough of this, Morgana.
Whatever qualms we may have had
against Elaine, she is only following
the commands of the Triple Goddess.
She would not betray me.
MORGANA
Is that so? Well, if she is as
reliable as you claim, ask her what
the Circle of Fate is.
MORDRED
(unwilling, uncomprehending)
Why? What is it?
The seed of doubt has been planted. Success. MORGANA still holds
her place as Queen of Manipulation. She clicks her tongue and rides
on ahead. MORDRED lingers behind. We can see the uncertainty gnaw
at him as he considers her words.

EXT. ARTHUR’S ARMY ENCAMPMENT – DAY 1.
[13] Dressed for battle, GWEN exits her tent on a mission,

strapping a sword to her belt. Two of ARTHUR'S SOLDIERS notice as
she mounts her HORSE.
SOLDIER #1
My Lady. Where are you going?
GWEN
Someone needs to thin our enemy’s
numbers while we have the chance.
That someone might as well be me. I
shall be back before dawn.
SOLDIER #2
Your Highness, send one of us in your
stead. Our queen is too valuable.
GWEN
This is something I must do. And I am
no longer your queen.
The two SOLDIERS are taken aback at that.
GWEN
I’ve set aside the burdens of the
crown to serve my people in a
different way. Hyah!
GWEN kicks off and rides out of camp.
CUT TO:
MERLIN sits on a bench, sharpening ARTHUR’s sword. ARTHUR appears

into frame and drops something on the table with a heavy THUNK.
MERLIN jumps, takes a moment to register what it is... Two
gauntlets, a breastplate — a shining suit of armour.
MERLIN
What’s this for?
ARTHUR
You.

ARTHUR taps the breastplate, looking proud. As MERLIN pays more

attention to the armour, he realizes an amber dragon has been
skillfully imbedded into the breastplate.
ARTHUR
Thought it was about time we got you
something to wear on all our reckless
adventures. Especially after what
almost happened yesterday...
MERLIN
It’s magnificent. Thank you.
(beat)
What did happen yesterday? I thought
we’d proven no one but Mordred is
allowed to kill us.
ARTHUR
I'm not sure... You said the Great
Dragon told you the Disir will kill
Elaine once all of this is over?
MERLIN
(nodding)
As punishment for her disobedience.
After the way those guards reacted,
it makes me wonder what would happen
if Mordred isn’t the one to kill us.
It must be a fate worse than death.
ARTHUR
I dread to think what that might be.
(beat – gets an idea)
Would it help if you enchanted more
flowers to heal the wounded?
MERLIN
(shakes head)
The spell drains some of my deepest
magic. It will be some time before I
can perform it again.
ARTHUR nods, disappointed.

EXT. LONDON CITY (INTERSECTION) – DAY 1.
[14] Dusk. Led by LANCELOT, the four KNIGHTS ride their HORSES
through the streets. CIVILIANS look up. Their curiosity turns to
fear at the sight of more strangely dressed newcomers — their run-
in with Elaine has left them wary. As the KNIGHTS pass, some
CIVILIANS usher each other into buildings or down the street to get
away.
PERCIVAL
Wait! Don’t be afraid!
His words only make them try to escape all the more. LANCELOT sends
a hand signal to his fellow KNIGHTS. The four of them direct their
HORSES in the paths of every escape route on the intersection,
cutting the CIVILIANS off.
LANCELOT
Do not be alarmed! We have come on
behalf of the Once and Future King!
The CIVILIANS stare up at him, their fears not assuaged in the

least.
LANCELOT
Tomorrow, a great battle is to take
place, the likes of which you have
never seen! The fate of Albion rests
in the balance! We have come to ask
for your help.
LANCELOT’s words have no effect on the CIVILIANS. He’s unsure of

how to proceed.
GWAINE
(muttering)
This purple prose isn’t going to get
us anywhere.
GWAINE dismounts and climbs up on top of a CAR.
GWAINE
A moment of your time please. My name
is Sir Gwaine, these are my mates:
we’re soldiers. You may have seen us
around here before, helping out after
the blackout.
GWAINE scans the crowd, singles out someone in particular: a

MIDDLE-AGED MAN.
GWAINE
Yeah, I helped you get your wife out
of that tube accident, remember?

Hesitation. Then, the MIDDLE-AGED MAN nods. GWAINE nods with him.
GWAINE
(to all civilians)
Right, so you know us: we’re on your
side. Now, those crazy blokes who
levitated people and rounded you up
into the courthouse — they’re our
enemies, your enemies. Well,
tomorrow, they’re going to fight
Arthur, the man who saved you that
day.
(crowd takes this in)
I know your first reaction is going
to be: "what the hell does this have
to do with me?" Well, the answer is
everything, because if Arthur loses
this battle, our enemies' next target
is you — your homes, your friends,
your families.
Fear heightens among the CIVILIANS.
GWAINE
Look, I’m with you in thinking these
past few weeks have been completely
mental. But after everything you saw
on telly – everything, even the world
around us, screaming that "King
Arthur has returned" – maybe it's not
as mental as you think. What happens
tomorrow will dictate everything that
follows, and we need your help.
(without missing a beat)
Now that doesn’t mean you all have to
fight with us. We’ll need help
tending the wounded, or basically
anything you have to offer. Because
if we lose this war... you do too.
The CIVILIANS take this in. LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, and ELYAN watch
him, filled with pride.
A long beat passes. The first to step forward is the MIDDLE-AGED

MAN whose wife GWAINE rescued. Then, little by little, almost
everyone in the intersection steps forward, the fight in them
stirred. GWAINE nods to the people, grateful.
LANCELOT, ELYAN, and PERCIVAL in turn nod to GWAINE. He did it.

EXT. ENEMY ARMY ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT 1.
[15] The sun has long since set. ELAINE’S ARMY has made camp in an
open field not far from the beach.
CUT TO:
INT. MORDRED’S TENT – CONTINUOUS.
In his tent, MORDRED fingers the toy soldier from Morgana with a
contemplative gaze.
CUT TO:
EXT. ENEMY ARMY ENCAMPMENT – CONTINUOUS.
MORDRED emerges from his tent and walks through the encampment. He
passes ENEMY SOLDIERS who sit around campfires to keep warm.
MORGANA’S P.O.V.: MORGANA watches him from inside her tent as he

passes. MORDRED stops outside a large tent and faces the two ENEMY
GUARDS standing there. He exchanges inaudible words with them and,
casting a glance over his shoulder like he knows he’s being
watched, slips inside.
MORGANA slithers out of her own tent and, avoiding ENEMY SOLDIER’s
gazes, slips behind the one MORDRED has just entered: ELAINE’s.
Crouching low to the ground, she eavesdrops.
CUT TO:
INT. ELAINE’S TENT / EXT. ENEMY ARMY ENCAMPMENT – CONTINUOUS.
ELAINE’s tent is extravagant enough to match Arthur’s — enormous

bed, big sweeping canopy, vanity desk, intricate rugs. MORDRED and
ELAINE stand in the center. By MORDRED’s stiff countenance, it's
clear he is not happy with ELAINE.
ELAINE
I don't know what you mean, Mordred.
MORDRED
Don’t play coy — it doesn’t suit you.
I need to be sure our expectations
are aligned.
ELAINE
That Morgana will assume the throne
after we've won? You know I only
serve the Goddess.

ELAINE adopts the most innocent expression she can muster. But
MORDRED is not convinced. He measures her for a beat, calculating.
MORDRED
What is the Circle of Fate?
ELAINE
(smile hardens – cold)
Circle? Where did you hear of such a
thing?
MORDRED
Just answer the question.
(waits a beat)
Unless... you are hiding something
from me.
CUT TO:
Outside, MORGANA waits, listening, hanging on the moment. Her plan

to learn the truth about the Circle of Fate is working.
CUT TO:
MORDRED
You do trust me, Elaine... do you
not?
ELAINE’s smile becomes absolutely murderous with rage and

discomfort.
ELAINE
Of course, Mordred.
MORDRED
Then why do you lie?
She’s been cornered. And now she must confess. Her smile diminishes
into utter contempt. Very well, then...
ELAINE
There is... a reason why you returned
to life... why I had Accolon follow
you everywhere for your protection.
(looks at him gravely)
Nothing is of greater importance than
what I am about to tell you.

EXT. ENEMY ARMY ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT 1.
[16] Elsewhere in the enemy encampment.
ENEMY SOLDIERS cluster around a campfire, warming themselves. ENEMY

SOLDIER #1 glances up and notices a long trail of smoke wafting
overhead — too much smoke to be coming from another campfire. He
frowns.
ENEMY SOLDIER #1
What is that?
Other ENEMY SOLDIERS notice the thickening smoke with perplexed

stares.
SHARP CRY of an ENEMY SOLDIER pierces the night. The ENEMY SOLDIERS
jump to their feet, weapons ready. The smoke arises from somewhere
a few tents beyond. They run to find the source.
CUT TO:
The ENEMY SOLDIERS join their fellows on the scene: two tents are
utterly consumed by blazing flames. The ENEMY SOLDIERS are baffled.
ENEMY SOLDIER #1 turns to ENEMY SOLDIER #2, who was already here
watching the tents burn.
ENEMY SOLDIER #1
Whose tents were these?
ENEMY SOLDIER #2
(swallows)
The tents of Lords Vortigern and
Maleagant.
The tents are swallowed by fire. There’s no way the Lords survived.
They’re dead.
From the corner of his eye, ENEMY SOLIDER #1 spots GWEN dashing out
from behind a tent where she’s been hiding.
ENEMY SOLDIER #1
You! Stop!
GWEN sprints away as the ENEMY SOLDIERS pursue her.

INT. ELAINE’S TENT – CONTINUOUS.
ELAINE has just finished explaining the Circle of Fate.
ELAINE
Mordred? Do you understand?
MORDRED stands before her, bewildered, dazed with fear and dread at
what she has just disclosed.
CUT TO:
Still crouched outside Elaine’s tent, MORGANA, who heard their

conversation, covers her mouth, eyes wide in horror. Whatever she
has just learned is devastating. She falls back and sits, looking
scared to death.
CUT TO:
INT. ELAINE’S TENT – CONTINUOUS.
MORDRED
(piecing it together)
You kept this from me because you
feared what I would do. You knew I
would no longer need you.
ELAINE
You do need me, Mordred.
MORDRED
You mean you need me! Without me, all
of your work would be for nothing!
An ENEMY GUARD bursts into ELAINE’s tent.

ENEMY GUARD
My Lady! The Lords have been killed!
CUT TO:
MORGANA has gotten to her feet, disoriented. She slowly backs away
from Elaine’s tent...
SLAM! GWEN crashes against MORGANA and knocks them both to the
ground. MORGANA winces up to see GWEN lying on top of her.
MORGANA
You!

GWEN
You!
MORGANA shoves GWEN off and the two sit up.
ENEMY SOLDIER #3 (O.S.)

She went this way!
Jumping to her feet, GWEN hauls MORGANA up and pushes her into a
run.
MORGANA
What are you doing here?
GWEN
Just run!
MORGANA
Wait – ! But Mordred is still – ! I'm
not finished here!
GWEN
You are now!
They weave between tents to avoid ENEMY SOLDIERS.
MORGANA
You're destroying my mission! If not
for you, I –
MORGANA doesn't get to finish. LADY LAUDINE slides out from behind
a tent and into their path. She FIRES a FLASH OF RED MAGIC: it
throws MORGANA and GWEN backwards onto the ground. They groan and
struggle to get up.
LADY LAUDINE nears and looms over them with a malicious smile, hand
extended to fire a spell.
GWEN swings her foot at LADY LAUDINE’s legs and kicks them out from
under her. LADY LAUDINE falls just as MORGANA gets to her feet.
MORGANA stands over LADY LAUDINE, who stares up in terror. MORGANA

doesn’t even lift a finger. Eyes flashing gold, she uses her magic
to snap LADY LAUDINE’s neck.
Another SHOUT from their pursuers. MORGANA and GWEN take off.

EXT. COUNTRYSIDE – NIGHT 1.
GWEN and MORGANA ride GWEN’s HORSE at lightning speed for Arthur’s
camp.
CUT TO:
EXT. ARTHUR’S ARMY ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT 1.
[17] MERLIN and ARTHUR come to greet the KNIGHTS and the CIVILIANS
they have brought back with them. ARTHUR and GWAINE clasp wrists.
GWAINE
I hope this will make up for failing
you last time around.
ARTHUR
You’ve never failed me, Gwaine. Not
once.
They share smiles. Then ARTHUR turns to the CIVILIANS.
ARTHUR
Thank you all for coming. Elyan,
Lancelot, and Percival will show you
where to stay and go over our battle
plans with you. Those who fight will
be provided with armour and weapons.
POUNDING HOOVES. Everyone’s attention is drawn to GWEN and MORGANA

as they gallop into camp. GWEN leaps off before the HORSE has fully
halted and runs up to ARTHUR and MERLIN.
GWEN
(out of breath)
Arthur, Elaine’s Lords and Lady have
been vanquished. We saw to it
personally.
ARTHUR
(stunned, grateful)
Guinevere, this — this will help us
considerably. You’re a marvel.

GWEN gives a humble smile.
SLOW-MOTION: MERLIN tries to see past the CIVILIANS and KNIGHTS to

MORGANA. MORGANA is caught up in her own troubled thoughts as she
slowly dismounts. When she turns and locks eyes with MERLIN, both
of them are overwhelmed with relief. They approach each other and
meet in an embrace.
END SLOW-MOTION. MORGANA clings to MERLIN, traumatized. Her eyes

are bright with terror as she stares into nothing. As MERLIN pulls
back and sees this, he is immediately worried.
MERLIN
Morgana? What is it?
MORGANA stares up at him, trying to find the words.

MORGANA
I—I need to tell you something.
CUT TO:
INT. ARTHUR’S TENT – NIGHT 1.
[18] ARTHUR, MERLIN, and GWEN have gathered in the tent. They face
MORGANA, whose eyes are still filled with fear.
MORGANA
There’s a reason no one is allowed to
kill Merlin or Arthur... A reason so
many follow Mordred; a reason Elaine
was so terrified when she realized
she couldn’t save Merlin...
(deep breath)
It started with Arthur’s first reign.
As she talks, hazy memories play out ON-SCREEN to match her words.
BRIEF FLASH OF HAZY SHOTS:
From 4x03: ARTHUR is crowned at his coronation. IMAGES SHIFT as

MORGANA carries on.

With a shaky breath, MORGANA continues.
Various shots: A bloodied axe falls against the chopping block

once. Then a second time on another occasion. A third time. From
5x11: ARTHUR and KARA stare one another down before she is hung.
MORGANA (V.O.)
The only way to restore balance for
all of the sorcerers killed during
your reign is through a blood
sacrifice.

MORGANA
The sacrifice demands that... Elaine,
as Judge, slaughter everyone on
earth, including herself, in
reparation for all the blood you’ve
spilt.
ALL take this in in horror.
GWEN
Everyone?
MERLIN
What can we do to stop it?

MORGANA
In order to avert such a terrible
end, the Goddess created the Circle
of Fate, made up of Arthur, Merlin,
and Mordred.
MORGANA (V.O.)
It’s called a Circle because it’s a
cycle: Arthur kills Mordred, Mordred
kills Arthur, Merlin waits for
Arthur, and they come back and start
all over again.
As MORGANA talks... From 5x13: MORDRED runs ARTHUR through; ARTHUR

runs MORDRED through. From 5x13: OLD MERLIN walks past the Lake of
Avalon, head bowed sadly.
MORGANA
When you died, the Circle started
spinning. Since circles come back
around, you and Mordred were both
brought back, and the rest of us with
you. That’s why our present has often
paralleled our past: because of the
Circle, history wants to repeat
itself.
MERLIN
(piecing it together)
Right. Like the way Arthur and I met
Gwaine. Or how Lancelot and Gwen went
behind Arthur’s back – or you with
the hemlock.
MORGANA
(nods)
But the Circle stops spinning
tomorrow, when the battle starts. The
balance demands a sacrifice, not just
a life. The Circle can only be broken
when one takes the place of another.
GWEN
Meaning what, exactly?

MORGANA
Either... Arthur, Merlin, or Mordred
must willingly give his life for the
other to break the Circle... or
everyone on earth will be massacred.
Whoa. An unspeakable dread overcomes them. Long, long beat.
ARTHUR
(grim)
Then... if I die for Merlin, this
mass bloodshed will be averted?
MERLIN
Arthur —
MORGANA
No, one must take the place of the
other. Even though we're immortal
now, neither you nor Mordred could
take Merlin's place of waiting
because there would be nothing to
wait for: he wouldn't come back to
life because he's never really died.
You and Mordred have. If you died for
Merlin, the Circle would still be
unbroken, and Elaine would have to
kill us all.
GWEN
So what are our options, then?
MORGANA
There are only four ways to break the
Circle: Arthur dies for Mordred,
Mordred dies for Arthur, Merlin dies
for Mordred... or Merlin dies for
Arthur.
The words ring in the air long after they have been spoken. They
contemplate these options...
MERLIN
Mordred would never give his life for
Arthur. Not now, after everything.
GWEN
And... Arthur is the Once and Future
King. He can’t just leave his people
again.

As their list of options thins, the only solution rears its ugly
head.
MERLIN
(soft, horrified)
That leaves me.
ARTHUR
No. Out of the question. There’s
another way out of this. I know there
is.
MERLIN
Arthur, the Circle has to be broken
from within. It demands a sacrifice
from one of us three. If I have to be
that sacrifice to prevent worldwide
bloodshed, so be it.
GWEN
(desperate)
Perhaps if we kill Elaine before any
of this can happen, there will be no
one left to enact the Judgment.
MERLIN
Unlikely. The Disir would simply find
someone else to be their Judge.
ARTHUR
No, that could work. This could work.
MERLIN
Arthur, Kilgharrah said the Disir are
going to kill her anyway for her
disobedience. She must not be that
valuable. That won’t help.
ARTHUR
(in denial)
No — don’t say anything! We will kill
Elaine, and no one has to give their
life for anyone.
MERLIN
That isn’t a sacrifice! It won’t stop
the Judgment!
ARTHUR
It will have to, because I won’t take
no for an answer.
MERLIN
Arthur...!

Refusing to hear any more talk of MERLIN dying, ARTHUR exits the
tent and leaves the three of them alone. MERLIN stares after him,
exhaling.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH – NIGHT 1.
[19] It will be dawn soon. MERLIN stands on the shore, staring out
over the sea in thought. He knows what must be done. He must find
the strength to see it through. Near his boots, waves draw in sand
and carry it out to sea.
MORGANA appears beside him. A silent, despondent beat passes,

filled only by the roaring of the wind and waves.
MORGANA
(grasping at straws)
It could work. Maybe killing Elaine
really is the answer.
MERLIN
If it isn’t, then everything will be
for nothing... It will be all right.
A deep sigh from MORGANA. She's distressed. Frustrated. Angry that

he won't admit he's as terrified as she is. He won't even turn his
head to the side and look at her.
MORGANA
(with an edge)
Even if you sacrifice yourself, who's
to say someone won't simply kill
Arthur afterwards?
MERLIN
I have to trust he'll be protected.
If I don’t die, everyone will.
MORGANA
(pressing)
Why are you being so calm about all
of this?
MERLIN
Because I have to.
MORGANA
(exasperated)
No, you don't. You don't have to be
the hero every time.
MERLIN
I'm not afraid to die.

MORGANA
Then why can't you look me in the
eye?
MERLIN
(breaking, emotional)
Because if I see the face of someone
I love right now, I might not be able
to go through with it.
He tries to contain himself. MORGANA stares at him; he still won't

face her. The sound of the waves fills the night. A beat of
thought. And she remembers what he said to her in EP2 of Season 3.
MORGANA
(after a silence, soft)
It doesn't have to be like this.
Slowly, timidly, she takes his hand.
MORGANA
We can find another way.
MERLIN closes his tear-filled eyes and threads his fingers through
hers, shuddering.
MORGANA
You’re the one who taught me there's
always a choice.
MORGANA leans her forehead against the side of his head.
MORGANA
You didn't give up on me. I'm not
giving up on you.
MERLIN eases his head into hers. He needs this comfort. He doesn't
think he can manage to lose her after this, but he can't resist it
either.
Solemn beat. MORGANA takes a breath, lets go of his hand, and

starts to walk away, back for the camp.
MERLIN's eyes open. His head turns. He watches her head down the
beach. Will he just let her go again?
MERLIN
Morgana! Wait!
MERLIN takes off after her and clears the distance between them. He
grabs her by the arm, pulls her back around, and kisses her on the
lips. No more resistance. She's taken by surprise, but quickly
gives in. Both such ancient souls, the victims of outrageous
suffering, now pulled back together, just as they were at the

start. So lonely then and so lonely now, that it seems only right
to share in one another’s brokenness, and, hopefully, to end it.
After a long beat, they break away, but only by inches. Foreheads.
Noses.
MERLIN
(soft)
If there’s anything I’m never going
to do again, it’s let you walk away
from me.
MERLIN lifts his hand, slowly, and touches it to her face. MORGANA
shivers at the touch, but she doesn't recoil. There is nothing
false in it: no desire to manipulate or to use, or to torture. Just
pure comfort, no strings attached.
They kiss again.
LONG SHOT of MERLIN and MORGANA as they embrace on the beach.
CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH – NIGHT 1.
[20] Campfires glitter along the beach. ARTHUR sits alone at one of
them, gazing into the flames which flicker in his eyes. His worries
weigh down on him. With a silent sigh, he closes his eyes. How is
he ever going to solve this?

EXT. ENEMY ARMY ENCAMPMENT – DAY 2.
Sunrise. Establishing.

INT. MORDRED’S CHAMBERS – DAY 2.
MORDRED suits up for battle. He sheathes his Dragon-forged sword.

He faces the mirror. A solemn, determined soldier stares back.
Today is the day Arthur Pendragon will pay for his sins.
No longer is he unsure of who he is, of what he was born to do: he

is the little walking tragedy – a prodigy of regicide. Killing
kings is his identity. Killing kings is his destiny.
As he turns to leave, something catches his eye: the toy soldier on

his desk. He stares at it for a beat, quiet...
...and leaves. A lot of layers of symbolism here: Mordred leaving

behind his conscience, his innocence, his bond with Morgana.

[21] Sunrise. ELAINE’S ARMY is on the move, covering vast distances

in a short amount of time.
CUT TO:
SERIES OF SHOTS: EXT. ARMY ENCAMPMENT / INT. TENT ARMOURY –

CONTINUOUS.
SLOW-MOTION. NO SOUND. Just SOUNDTRACK. Sunrise. Final preparations

for war are made. Swords are sharpened last-minute, tents taken
down, campfires stamped and poured out. In the tent armoury, all
suit up for battle.
CUT TO:
INT. COMMAND TENT – DAY 2.

GWEN, the KNIGHTS, and several other SOLDIERS bend over the map-
covered table together, while MERLIN, clad in his new armour with
the dragon engraved on it, observes from the sidelines. ARTHUR
enters and takes his place at the head of the table.
ARTHUR
There has been a change in plans. The
Knights will focus on taking down
Elaine’s footsoldiers, while Gwen,
Morgana, Merlin, and I channel all
our attention into dispatching
Elaine.
GWAINE
What about Mordred?

ARTHUR
Under no circumstances is anyone to
kill Mordred. Otherwise, the Circle
of Fate will remain unbroken. If you
see him, avoid him.
MERLIN sighs, doubting this will make any difference.
CUT TO:
[22] In silence, MERLIN and ARTHUR take turns helping each other
into their armour. MERLIN finishes up with one of ARTHUR's
vambraces and steps back into his servant stance.
ARTHUR
Steps have been taken to ensure our
victory.
MERLIN nods softly. ARTHUR rests a hand on his shoulder.
ARTHUR
As long as we stay together, nothing
will go wrong.
MERLIN glances at ARTHUR’s hand on his shoulder; he feels it

trembling. Realizing MERLIN has noticed, ARTHUR quickly withdraws
it. He glances about the tent before he begins to fiddle with his
own armour.
MERLIN
(quiet, solemn)
You don’t have to worry.
ARTHUR
(He's terrified)
I’m not worried. What makes you think
that?
MERLIN
Well, you’d have to be crazy not to
be.
ARTHUR
(fidgeting slows, clears throat)
Well, then, I must be crazy, because
I’m not... worried.
He heads to the table and starts to needlessly sort his papers.

MERLIN
Arthur — ah...!

MERLIN winces as though in pain, one hand flying to his head.

Startled, ARTHUR whips around to face him.
ARTHUR
Merlin? What is it? What’s wrong?
MERLIN shakes his head, eyes closed, as ARTHUR approaches.
MERLIN
Oh — I’m having a vision...
ARTHUR
A vision?
MERLIN
Oh, yeah – it’s a really powerful
one. Ah... Oh...
The more unsettled noises MERLIN makes, the less believable his
“vision” grows. ARTHUR relaxes as he realizes MERLIN is pretending.
ARTHUR
Merlin...
MERLIN
(holds up a hand to silence him)
Wait, wait! I see... I see the throne
room back at the Sanctuary... It’s
decorated, and just filled with
people. There are trumpets blaring...
ARTHUR
(trying to resist a smile)
Merlin, really...
MERLIN
Oh, wait! I see... a great ruler...
taking his place at the front of the
room — the people are chanting
something — I think it’s... “Long
live the King! Long live the King!”
Shaking his head, ARTHUR gives in to a small chuckle.
MERLIN
(slowly growing more serious)
Oh, now — wait, and the people are
bowing, they’re honoring their ruler
— I get the sense this ruler has just
led his people to a great victory,
and that this is the dawn of a new
era of peace and light.

(opens his eyes, smiles at him)

The people are proud to serve such a
man, for no ruler before or after
shall ever surpass him in wisdom,
fairness, and honor.
(proud sigh)
That ruler is you, Arthur.
ARTHUR regards him fondly, grateful for the encouragement.
ARTHUR
And where does this vision of yours
put you?
MERLIN
(beat – a little, forced smile)
I’ll be watching over you, like
always.
ARTHUR smiles at MERLIN for a beat.
ARTHUR
Thank you, Merlin.
MERLIN gives a nod. They hold each other's gazes.
ARTHUR
Come on. We need to make sure
everything is prepared.
Clapping MERLIN on the back, ARTHUR exits the tent.
As MERLIN comes back down to earth where the probability of his

death is still at large, his smile fades. Despite his facade, he is
scared to death. He follows ARTHUR.
CUT TO:
[23] ARTHUR, the KNIGHTS, and the rest of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS ready
their HORSES. The four KNIGHTS and GWEN prepare near to each other.
PERCIVAL
You know, whoever said “you only live
once” — he lied.
ELYAN
Well, let’s just hope you only die
once.

If Lancelot is any indication, then I
wouldn’t count on it. He’s died –
what? – two, three times?
LANCELOT
More like two and a half.
The KNIGHTS chuckle and exchange smirks.
GWEN
Let’s leave it at two and a half,
then, shall we?
GWEN and LANCELOT exchange a glance.
CUT TO:
ARTHUR, who has just finished preparing his HORSE, pauses when he
notices MORGANA and MERLIN a few HORSES off.
MORGANA
(soft, sincere)
Don't be a fool out there, all right?
Stay close to me. I'll watch your
back.
MERLIN
Good. Feel free to enjoy the view.
MORGANA
(whacking arm)
I'm serious. Some of us still need
you.
MERLIN
(turning serious – a nod)
I know.

They stare at each other for a beat. In unison, they move in for a
hug.
Out of earshot, ARTHUR watches them. A gentle smile is on his face.
They ease back just enough to see each other. Beat. MORGANA kisses
MERLIN on the lips. Long, tender, possibly last kiss. Then they
break away. MERLIN spares her another lingering glance before he
heads off to prepare his HORSE.
Having seen the kiss, ARTHUR eyes MERLIN, dumbfounded, teasingly

quizzical, as MERLIN walks past. Catching his gaze, MERLIN gives an
innocent shrug and continues on his way.
Shaking his head with a smirk, ARTHUR passes his reins over to one
of his SOLDIERS and makes his way toward MORGANA, who is about to
mount her HORSE.
ARTHUR
Morgana.
MORGANA stops and faces ARTHUR.
ARTHUR
I want you to know, if we prevail
today... I would be honored if you
would rule alongside me.
MORGANA
(stares, surprised beat)
What about Gwen?
ARTHUR
Guinevere feels she has been queen
long enough.
MORGANA takes a moment to consider her brother's offer.

MORGANA
Thank you...
(beat)
But... I don’t deserve it. I once
thought I could substitute power for
love, but... now I see love is the
only power worth fighting for.
ARTHUR
(astonished - takes this in)
But how am I to fill two thrones?

MORGANA
(a smile)
That’s easy. Just put your head in
one and your heart in the other. That
way you can never go wrong.
They hold each other’s gazes for a beat. Then ARTHUR pulls her into
a hug. MORGANA stares in surprise over his shoulder for a beat,
stiff, before she relaxes and reciprocates the embrace.
ARTHUR
You be careful, all right, sister?
MORGANA
You do the same, brother.
ARTHUR gives her a smile and nod, and heads off.

CUT TO:
EXT. BEACH (SEA CLIFFS) – DAY 2.
[24] ELAINE, blindfolded, and MORDRED lead the ENEMY ARMY through
the treacherous path to the beach.
CUT TO:
Establishing shot. ARTHUR’S ARMY is in formation. It’s an eclectic

mix, containing one King, a former Queen, two sorcerers, ARTHUR’S
SOLDIERS, and numerous CIVILIANS (the latter of which are now
armored and indistinguishable from ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS). They await
the ENEMY ARMY's arrival.
The beach is silent but for the crashing of the waves. Banners fly
high in the sea air.
MORGANA, ARTHUR, MERLIN, and GWEN sit in that order on their
HORSES. ARTHUR speaks to MERLIN in a low voice...
ARTHUR
No sign of that “special aid” yet.
MERLIN
It’ll come.
ARTHUR
Let’s hope so.

For a long, dread-filled moment, all is still.
Then, gradually, a low RUMBLING rises above the sound of the ocean,
growing louder. The ground beneath them trembles. Up ahead in the
distance, a line of ENEMY SOLDIERS appears.
CUT TO:
ELAINE and MORDRED lead their host, neck and neck. A scowl settles
over MORDRED’s face as he singles out MORGANA among their enemies.
She betrayed him. He should’ve known.
MORDRED
There is Morgana.
ELAINE
On the losing side: right where she
belongs. Remember: timing is key. Do
not strike until you know for certain
Emrys will propel himself between
Arthur and the blade. Once Emrys has
sacrificed himself and broken the
Circle, you can deal with Arthur as
you wish.
MORDRED gives a stiff nod.
CUT TO:
As the ENEMY ARMY marches to its position down the beach, fear sets
into ARTHUR’S ARMY from the sheer numbers ELAINE commands. MERLIN
and GWEN exchange an uneasy glance.
The ENEMY ARMY has reached its position: they stop suddenly, facing
their opponents. The beach grows still once more.
ARTHUR, MERLIN, GWEN, and MORGANA look at one another before, in

unison, they urge their HORSES forward, leaving ARTHUR’S ARMY.
ELAINE and MORDRED do the same.
The representatives from both sides ride out and meet together in
the middle between the two ARMIES. It’s time for the parlay.
ELAINE
Here we are at last. It felt as
though this day would never come.
ARTHUR
We can still find a way out of this,
Elaine. Appeal to the Disir. Mercy is
superior to judgment.
MORDRED
Mercy is not an option.

MORGANA
Mordred, please –
MORDRED
(hurt, bitter)
Don’t bother, Morgana. You have
betrayed me.
ELAINE
Do not worry. Every last one of you
will get only what you deserve.
MERLIN
(glaring at Elaine)
You know that’s not true. It’s never
been true. You derive pleasure from
inflicting pain — you always take it
too far.
ELAINE turns her blindfolded gaze to MERLIN with a chilling smile.
ELAINE
Then you shouldn’t have taught me
how.
They accept that they will not be able to come to terms. Subtly
directing his horse towards ELAINE, while he has the chance, ARTHUR
RIPS his sword from its sheath and SWIPES at ELAINE’s head; MORDRED
blocks it with his own sword, glaring at ARTHUR for breaking one of
the rules of war.
MERLIN, MORGANA, and GWEN are shocked as well.
MORDRED wrenches ARTHUR’s sword out of the way with his own sword.
He and ELAINE turn on their HORSES and return to their side.
With a last frustrated glance at them, ARTHUR turns his HORSE

around and leads MERLIN, MORGANA, and GWEN back to his army.
As MERLIN, MORGANA, and GWEN return to their positions, ARTHUR
rides his HORSE out in front of his ARMY and bellows at the top of
his lungs...
ARTHUR
The Day of Judgment has come! Time to
take Death by the horns and say, “You
have no hold over me!” The fate of
humanity rests on our shoulders! NOW
LET'S RAISE SOME HELL!
The ARMY roars in answer, ready to face their foes.

CUT TO:

ELAINE rides along the first line of the ENEMY SOLDIERS. We see
many of their faces are marred by fear and anxiety.
ELAINE
GIVE NO QUARTER! Remember: no one but
Mordred is to lay a finger on Emrys
or the King!
CUT TO:
[25] ARTHUR assumes his position at the front of the ARMY. He

raises his sword toward the enemy.
ARTHUR
FOR THE LOVE OF ALBION!
With that, ARTHUR kicks his HORSE and gallops forth, leading
MORGANA, MERLIN, GWEN, the KNIGHTS, and all of his ARMY, each
screaming fierce war-cries.
ELAINE, MORDRED, and the ENEMY ARMY burst forward.
SLOW-MOTION: The two ARMIES stampede towards each other. Hooves

pound against the sand.
END SLOW-MOTION: After covering the distance, the sides CRASH into
each other, spears jabbing, banners flying, sword upon sword. The
sounds of war fill the solitary beach.
SERIES OF SHOTS – CONTINUOUS.
ARTHUR and LANCELOT slash at ENEMY SOLDIERS who swarm their HORSES.
LANCELOT is quickly forced off his HORSE by an ENEMY SOLDIER, but
he gets to his feet and has at their adversaries.
From atop her WHITE HORSE, blindfolded ELAINE hacks at ARTHUR’S

SOLDIERS with her triple-bladed axe.
CUT TO:
MORGANA
(over the roar of battle)
Merlin!
After deflecting a blow with a blast of blue magic that sends ENEMY
SOLDIERS flying, MERLIN scans through the fray until he locks eyes
with MORGANA.
MORGANA
Cover me!

Gripping sword and reins, MORGANA turns her HORSE and charges head-
on deeper into the enemy side. MERLIN follows, blasting spell after
spell at those who pursue her.
CUT TO:
One of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS runs at MORDRED, screaming, sword raised.

Backing his HORSE out of the way, MORDRED uses magic to wrest the
SOLDIER’s sword from his grasp; levitates it for a moment. Then
thrusts it into his adversary.
CUT TO:
ARTHUR cuts down another ENEMY SOLDIER. He looks up, scanning the
chaos around them.
ARTHUR
(to Gwen)
I can’t see Merlin or Morgana!
ARTHUR and GWEN exchange distressed glances.
CUT TO:
GWAINE and ELYAN steer their HORSES around LANCELOT and PERCIVAL,
who have both ended up on the sand. The four continue to fight off
ENEMY SOLDIERS.
CUT TO:
MERLIN follows MORGANA deep into the ENEMY ARMY, holding off
everyone who tries to interfere. When MORGANA has reached her
destination, right in the middle of the ENEMY ARMY, she pulls her
HORSE to a stop and raises both hands to the sky.
MERLIN shoots a ray of scorching light at an ENEMY SOLDIER who

attempts to slash at her.
MORGANA raises her head, eyes flashing gold.
ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS, ENEMY SOLDIERS, GWEN, and PERCIVAL look up to

see what appear to be distant stars plummeting toward the earth at
high speed.
MORGANA keeps reaching for the heavens. As the stars fall faster
and faster, MERLIN squints up. His eyes widen as he realizes what
those falling objects are. He throws an incredulous glance at
MORGANA.
MORGANA
You might want to run!

MERLIN
I’m not going anywhere!
Hands still raised, MORGANA clenches them into fists. At the last
second, MERLIN throws a MAGIC SHIELD over the two of them. Those on
the battlefield only have a moment’s warning before they are caught
in a rain of burning, skull-sized METEORITES.
CUT TO:
A METEORITE hits MORDRED’s HORSE and knocks him off, into the sand.
A pair of ENEMY SOLDIERS sees this and, avoiding the deadly meteor
shower, scrambles to help him up – after all, without him to break
the Circle, they will all die.
MORDRED yanks his arms from their grasp, outraged. He raises a hand
and shoots up a broad SHIELD of PURPLE MAGIC that covers him and
all the ENEMY SOLDIERS nearby, protecting them from Morgana’s
meteor shower.
CUT TO:
Now on foot, ELAINE finds herself in the thick of a CROWD of

ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS, who come at her from every angle.
Lifting her axe as though it were a staff, she summons a gust of

WHITE ENEGRY and BLASTS her enemies several yards away, clearing up
a large circle of ground around her that is quickly invaded by more
of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS.
CUT TO:
From where he fights (still atop his HORSE), ARTHUR has seen
ELAINE’s blast of white magic and knows where she must be. He
throws a glance at GWEN.
ARTHUR
I've found Elaine!
ARTHUR charges in the direction of ELAINE. GWEN is the only one who
sees an ENEMY SOLDIER come straight for him with a mace.
GWEN
Arthur! Look out!

The ENEMY SOLDIER slams his mace into the leg of ARTHUR’s HORSE.
Braying with pain, the HORSE crumples to the ground, rolling on top
of ARTHUR’s leg. GWEN watches in terror.
She leaps down from her HORSE and runs at the ENEMY SOLDIER who
wields the mace. She cuts him down, and then stoops to help push
the HORSE off of ARTHUR. She finds she's not strong enough alone.
[26] LANCELOT, GWAINE, and PERCIVAL join her. They lend their
strength and all together free ARTHUR’s leg, while ELYAN holds off
the ENEMY SOLDIERS.
PERCIVAL helps ARTHUR to his feet. An ENEMY SOLDIER raises his

sword to strike GWEN, but ELYAN kicks his feet out from under him.
CUT TO:
An ENEMY SOLDIER tries to jab at MERLIN with a long, menacing
spear. MERLIN breathes BLUE FIRE onto his sword and plunges it into
the ENEMY SOLDIER.
Pulling a handful of BLACK POWDER from her pocket, MORGANA blows

the powder into the air. The powder takes on the shapes of many
SCREECHING RAVENS who fly at the ENEMY SOLDIERS, clawing and
pecking at their faces.
Out of nowhere, MORDRED seizes MORGANA’s wrist and yanks her off
her HORSE. She tumbles to the sand. Rolling over, she stares up
into his scarred face in fear as he raises his sword.
MORGANA
(shaking head - frantic)
Mordred, please! Don't!
Though his sword is at the ready, MORDRED hesitates — just long

enough for MERLIN to fire a BLAST of MAGIC LIGHT straight for him.
Sensing the air rushing toward him, MORDRED bends backward, low,
and narrowly avoids MERLIN’s BLAST of MAGIC.
MORGANA
(getting up)
Careful, Merlin! Don't kill him,
Remember the Circle!
MORDRED whips around and raises his enchanted sword to MERLIN, who
sits atop his HORSE, pressing it against his neck.
MORDRED
Where is Arthur?! We cannot end this
without him!

Eyes flashing gold, MERLIN uses MAGIC to push MORDRED’s blade away.
MERLIN grabs MORGANA by the hand and pulls her up onto his HORSE.
They kick off, back for their own side, with MORDRED helpless to
stop them. He can't kill MERLIN unless he's taking the blade for
Arthur.
As MERLIN and MORGANA hasten to get back to their friends, an ENEMY

SOLDIER throws a spear into MERLIN’s HORSE. The HORSE rears up in
pain, knocking both MERLIN and MORGANA off its back and onto the
sand. MERLIN rolls off and into the surf of the sea, where he lays
unconscious.
CUT TO:
[27] ELAINE throws down another of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS and hacks at

him.
ARTHUR (O.C.)
Elaine!
ELAINE turns her blindfolded gaze. ARTHUR stands a few paces off,
looking so ready to kill her.
ELAINE
(irritated sigh)
This again?
ARTHUR
(advancing)
I will not let Merlin’s blood be the
price for my mistakes. Hopefully the
Goddess will be satisfied with yours.
ARTHUR raises his sword (the one with the missing shard) and swipes
at her head. ELAINE deflects the blow with her axe, and their
former dance of one-sided combat begins.
CUT TO:

CLOSE-UP on MERLIN’s sideways face, where he lies in the surf,

slowly coming to. He stares ahead at the rolling waves of the sea,
disoriented.
SLOW-MOTION with MUFFLED SOUND: The battle rages on behind MERLIN.
The waves come in, sloshing against his face, over which a frown
forms as he gazes ahead at the ocean. A sudden revelation hits him.
He hears voices in his head...
KILGHARRAH (V.O.)
If you are to fulfill your destiny
once and for all, you and Arthur must
make your last stand at the sea, for
there, you shall receive special aid.
Struggling, MERLIN pushes himself onto all fours. He's got to get
up. He's got to.
BALINOR (V.O.)
You are the last Dragonlord now. You
alone carry the ancient gift.
MERLIN gets to his feet, unsteady, and faces the sea.
BALINOR (V.O.)
For you are a son of the earth, the
sea, the sky. Earth, because of the
magic you possess. Sea, because of
the power you wield. And sky...
because of the Dragons you command.
He knows what he must do. Closing his eyes, MERLIN bellows in the
ancient Dragonlord Tongue.
MERLIN
(incanting, building)
Drákos tou vythoú, ráli ston kýrió
sas. Se diatázo na mas exypiretísei
se aftón ton pólemo. Eláte se

When MERLIN opens his eyes, we don’t see them flash gold this time:
they have taken on the SERPENTINE EYES of a Dragon.
The ocean waves build, moving faster and stronger, climbing higher.
MERLIN waits on the edge of the sea, scanning the waters, which
begin to churn — something below the surface disturbs them.
CUT TO:

SOLDIERS from both sides look out and see the sudden violence of
the sea.
CUT TO:
MERLIN watches the waves topple over each other, massing and
heightening, and then... the waves shrink, suddenly, and become
almost as small as ripples.
He waits...
Water SHOOTS up as something massive BURSTS into the air, emerging

from the sea. Iridescent scales of blue and viridian. Jagged thorns
down the spine of the snake-like body.
Those on land gape up in terror as an enormous SEA-DRAGON rears its

head and gives a thunderous ROAR.
MERLIN smiles. Here is the aid they were promised: there is a new
Dragon at his command.
ELAINE and ARTHUR freeze mid-combat, staring in awe at the wondrous

SEA-DRAGON.
MORGANA’s mouth drops open for fear and amazement.
GWEN and the KNIGHTS marvel at the creature in terror.
Even MORDRED stops for a moment, shocked.
Refusing to fail his task, ARTHUR shakes it off and resumes his
relentless attack on ELAINE, who still deflects his every blow.
CUT TO:
Finally finding him, MORGANA runs up to MERLIN’s side.

MORGANA
(re: sea-dragon – anxious)
What is that?
MERLIN
A Sea-dragon.
At those words, the SEA-DRAGON spreads its gigantic, previously

unseen wings, flinging water across the battlefield like a heavy
rain. There are little points of light on the tips of its wings and
running down its nose and spine: they flash to life.
The SEA-DRAGON’s wings cut through the air and lift it up out of
the water. As it flies, eclipsing the sun, ocean water rains from
its wings down over the battlefield. The SEA-DRAGON opens its mouth

and releases a long stream of fire at the ENEMY SOLDIERS. The

SOLDIERS scramble about in terror.
CUT TO:
ARTHUR throws blow after blow at ELAINE. It's getting tiring for
her to defend herself against a man she’s forbidden to kill,
especially with ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS repeatedly attacking her.
CUT TO:
[28] The SEA-DRAGON swoops in low over the battlefield, raking its
claws through the rows of ENEMY SOLDIERS and slicing them.
CUT TO:
ELYAN defeats another ENEMY SOLDIER and looks up to see MORDRED

standing before him, his face the image of pure hatred. For a beat,
both stare at one another. Then MORDRED starts toward him and
swings his sword.
It collides with PERCIVAL’s blade rather than ELYAN’s head.
PERCIVAL
Fancy meeting you here.
Furious, MORDRED wrenches PERCIVAL’s blade out of his way.
MORDRED
If you know about the Circle of Fate,
then you know it would be suicide to
kill me.
ELYAN and PERCIVAL exchange a glance at that.
CUT TO:
GWEN slashes an ENEMY SOLDIER across the chest. She looks up to see
MORDRED advancing on ELYAN and PERCIVAL.
CUT TO:
MORDRED
(tearful, raging)
I, however, am not at all hindered
from killing traitors like you!
As MORDRED raises his weapon with both hands, GWEN appears behind
him and slices across his arm with her sword. Releasing a shout of
pain, MORDRED lowers his sword.
GWEN
Move!

GWEN ushers ELYAN and PERCIVAL forward. They seize the opportunity
and escape from MORDRED into the turmoil. MORDRED glances about,
searching for them, burning with fury as he holds his wounded arm.
CUT TO:
GWAINE knocks an ENEMY SOLDIER off of his HORSE. Less than two
seconds have passed before the SEA-DRAGON, flying low, passes
through, picks up the ENEMY SOLDIER’s HORSE, and carries it away.
GWAINE throws an incredulous glance at LANCELOT, who follows the

SEA-DRAGON’s path with his eyes, smiling.
GWAINE
Let me guess: another one of Merlin’s
lizards?
LANCELOT
Most likely.
CUT TO:
ARTHUR is infuriated that ELAINE will not fight back.
ARTHUR
Why are you even here if you refuse
to fight me? Mordred could have led
this battle himself!
Ever blindfolded, ELAINE blocks another of ARTHUR’s thrusts.
ELAINE
Mordred is too weak to succeed on his
own! I’ve come to ensure he doesn’t
fail. And when every Pendragon is
finally dead, there will be no one
with more right to the throne of
Albion than me!

He pants with exhaustion; takes a moment to collect himself.
ARTHUR
You really think they don’t know your
heart after all this time? You’re
deceiving yourself.

Provoked, ELAINE slashes at his arm. He lunges back, encouraged.
ARTHUR
Elaine, Merlin had a vision from the
Great Dragon while he was dying: once
the battle is over, no matter the
outcome, the Disir will execute you
for your offenses. You will die
whether the Circle is broken or not.
ELAINE freezes. Though ARTHUR cannot see her eyes through the
blindfold, he is sure his words have delivered a deeper blow than
his sword ever could.
CUT TO:
The SEA-DRAGON lands on the beach where MERLIN and MORGANA have
been fighting; it lowers its head in a bow to MERLIN. MERLIN bows
in return.
He snatches MORGANA’s wrist and drags her toward the SEA-DRAGON.
MERLIN
We need to find Arthur!
MERLIN climbs onto the SEA-DRAGON’s back, and then yanks MORGANA up
behind him.
MORGANA
(apprehensive)
When was the last time you rode a
Dragon?
MERLIN
(a smirk)
Only a thousand years ago.
MORGANA only has a split-second to look immensely uncomfortable

before the SEA-DRAGON takes flight and she grasps at MERLIN for
dear life.
CUT TO:
ARTHUR
(to Elaine)
After all you’ve done to ensure
victory, no matter who wins this
battle, you will lose everything.
ELAINE
(trembling, horrified)
Why should I believe you?

ARTHUR
Put it together, Elaine. You know
about Merlin’s visions: you were his
student, his apprentice. He taught
you everything he knows.
ELAINE
(shaking her head)
No...!
ARTHUR
The Disir don’t need a servant as
self-serving as you. Only the perfect
are worthy of casting judgment, and
you are the farthest thing from it.
ELAINE rips off her blindfold. Tears of hate and devastation stream
from her eyes. She swings her axe at ARTHUR. This time ARTHUR
deflects it.
CUT TO:
From the back of the SEA-DRAGON where MERLIN and MORGANA ride as
the creature soars through the air, MERLIN spots ELAINE and ARTHUR
locked in combat below.
MERLIN
I see him! Now we just — !
[29] He is cut off when an INVISIBLE FORCE of MAGIC lifts him off
the SEA-DRAGON.
MORGANA
Merlin...!
MERLIN is roughly levitated from the SEA-DRAGON and pulled back to

the earth. He SLAMS against the sand.
MORDRED stands over him, tearful eyes finishing their flash of gold
from the magic he used to levitate MERLIN.
MORDRED
Get up. You know what needs to be
done. I don’t want this any more than
you.
With great pain, MERLIN gets his feet under him. Laying hold of him
by the arm, MORDRED drags him along, using his other hand to
magically force a path through the battlefield.

ARTHUR and ELAINE fight undisturbed by the surrounding SOLDIERS.

Though the majority still fights, a circle of SOLDIERS from both
sides of the battle has formed around the King and the Judge.
From outside the circle, GWEN and LANCELOT watch ARTHUR and ELAINE.
LANCELOT assesses the ENEMY SOLDIERS surrounding them with a frown.
LANCELOT
Why aren’t the soldiers fighting?
GWEN
If the Circle isn’t broken, nothing
we do will matter. They will all be
massacred. This is no longer a war
for prejudice and power: it’s a war
for humanity’s very existence.
CUT TO:
MORDRED pulls MERLIN along through the path he has created in the
battlefield, heading for ARTHUR and ELAINE. MERLIN lets MORDRED
yank him, knowing what must be done.
MERLIN
If you don’t want this, then why
can’t we look for a way out?
MORDRED
Don’t you understand?! There is no
way out! We’re damned! The Goddess
has given us no second chance, just
like your precious King gave none to
Kara!
They reach ARTHUR and ELAINE.
MERLIN
(fed up, exasperated)
Arthur did give Kara a second chance,
Mordred! She rejected it!
MORDRED freezes. Wait... How can that be?
MORDRED
What...? You’re lying.
MERLIN
No, for once in my life, I’m telling
the truth. Before her execution,
Arthur gave her the choice between
freedom and death, and she chose
death.

(soft, to himself)
No. Why would she reject...? But she
– she said... She told me...
(slow realization)
She lied to me...
MORDRED never knew of this. He thought ARTHUR had simply sentenced

her to death without a chance for redemption...
ELAINE manages to disarm ARTHUR. She raises her axe to finish him
off, when ARTHUR’s startled gaze over her shoulder causes her to
stop. She spins around and sees MERLIN and MORDRED have arrived.
At the sight of them, ELAINE pauses. ARTHUR is filled with dread.
[30] MERLIN watches MORDRED’s look of betrayal as he takes in this

horrible revelation: Kara deceived him. She lied to fuel his
hatred...
MERLIN
(low, earnest)
Kara rejected it, Mordred. She chose
vengeance over mercy.
More SOLDIERS have stopped. MORGANA and the KNIGHTS appear on the
edge of the circle, watching in fear and uncertainty.
Breaking from his stupor, MORDRED heaves MERLIN into the circle.
MORGANA
Merlin! Mordred!
MORGANA runs forward just as ELAINE casts an invisible force-field

around the circle to keep anyone from getting in the way. The
force-field repels MORGANA.
ELAINE has her axe at the ready and her hand raised, poised to
shoot a spell at ARTHUR if he attempts to move. He's completely
trapped. If she kills him before the Circle is broken, everyone on
earth will die.
ARTHUR
(frantic)
Merlin, go! Get out of here!
MERLIN ignores him. He can’t look at ARTHUR. He won’t. This is hard

enough as is.
ARTHUR
Don’t you dare jump, Merlin! Don’t
you dare!

Blade drawn, MORDRED slowly steps forward and stands before ARTHUR.
MORGANA
Mordred, please! I’m begging you!
From MORDRED’s left, MERLIN is prepared to do what is necessary and

dive between ARTHUR and the blade.
From MORDRED’s right, ELAINE waits impatiently for ARTHUR’s death:

she hardly cares how it happens now if she is going to die anyway.
MORDRED stares ARTHUR down. ARTHUR’s pleading eyes bounce from

MERLIN to MORDRED.
CLIMACTIC SHOT FROM ABOVE shows MERLIN, ELAINE, ARTHUR, and MORDRED
gathered in the circle.
Those around watch. MORGANA, GWEN, and the KNIGHTS are powerless to
stop what’s coming.
LANCELOT
We must get in there!
ELYAN
How?!
GWEN
Elaine’s shield prevents it!
GWAINE
We can hardly stand here and let
Merlin die!
PERCIVAL
Don’t do this, Merlin!
Terrified, MORGANA and GWEN take hands.

MORDRED exchanges a glance with MERLIN. ARTHUR watches, helpless,
unable to intervene.
MERLIN
(grave – to Mordred)
I’m ready.
ARTHUR
MERLIN, NO!
ELAINE
(to Mordred - frenzied)
JUST KILL HIM ALREADY!

MORDRED pulls back his sword, aiming for ARTHUR’s heart...
MERLIN is ready to jump...
Long beat.
MORDRED does not strike. His hands shake. He can’t do it.
ELAINE
(disgusted)
Fine! I’ll do it myself!
ELAINE casts down her axe and wrests MORDRED’s sword from his
grasp. He doesn’t fight her. ELAINE lunges at ARTHUR.
MERLIN dives forward to lay down his life...
ARTHUR
NOOOO!
This is the end.
MORDRED purposefully spins into ELAINE’s path and takes the blow
instead of MERLIN: he is impaled by his own former sword at
ELAINE’s hand.
MORGANA SCREAMS.
ALL those watching are absolutely shocked.
MORDRED shudders, staring into ELAINE’s eyes in defiance. ELAINE is

startled to see him on the end of the blade, but she quickly
recovers and tears the sword from his chest, throwing him aside. He
rolls across the sand.
MORGANA
MORDRED!

[31] ELAINE turns on ARTHUR, who is stunned and speechless by what

MORDRED has done. She tries to slash at him. MERLIN uses MAGIC to
thrust ELAINE onto her back; another spell to roll her onto her
stomach and pin her there.
ARTHUR takes up the fallen triple-bladed axe and towers over her.
ELAINE’s eyes expand in sheer terror. SHE SHRIEKS.
ARTHUR raises the axe and plunges it, severing ELAINE’s head, as is
fitting for any formal execution sentenced by a real judge.
SLOW-MOTION: The axe hits bloodstained sand. All is silent.
Then, we hear WINGS FLAPPING. END SLOW-MOTION.
The SEA-DRAGON flies overhead, wings kicking up a gust of wind. Its

task of aiding MERLIN is finished. Now it makes its way home. The
SEA-DRAGON glides out into the water and returns from whence it
came.
With ELAINE vanquished, her force field flickers and is broken.

MORGANA bursts forward.
MORGANA
Mordred...!
She falls to her knees beside MORDRED and turns him over. He gasps.
She carefully pulls his head into her lap. Blood seeps through the
wound on his chest: she presses a hand to his wound. MERLIN,
ARTHUR, GWEN, the KNIGHTS, and the SOLDIERS gather round, watching
in awed bewilderment.
MORDRED
(struggling)
The Circle is broken.
MORGANA
(soft, stunned)
Shh, Mordred...
Speechless, ARTHUR and MERLIN kneel on either side of MORDRED.
By now, almost every SOLDIER has ceased combat. They crowd around
in confusion to see the fallen leaders.
ARTHUR
I... don’t understand. Mordred...
why?

MORDRED
(urgent, strained)
Arthur, promise me something: promise
me my people... will never again be
persecuted for who they are. Promise
me that.
ARTHUR stares at MORDRED, astounded. He puts a hand on his

shoulder.
ARTHUR
I swear on my life.
MORDRED relaxes a bit, shuddering. His every breath takes great

effort. MERLIN watches MORDRED, baffled. MORDRED gasps at the pain.
MORGANA shushes him.
Slowly and tentatively, MERLIN sets a steadying hand on MORDRED’s
arm. This Druid, whose life he once saved, and later sought to
destroy.
MERLIN
(soft, baffled)
Mordred... Why did you take my place.
What changed your mind?
MORDRED
(eyes finding Merlin’s)
You changed. Morgana... Arthur too.
I... I didn’t want to waste my second
chance... like Kara.
Eyes running with tears, Mordred tries to shake his head.
MORDRED
F-Forgive me.
ARTHUR
(fighting tears)
No, Mordred: forgive me.
MORDRED exerts a small smile at ARTHUR. His eyes dimly wander to

MORGANA's. Raising a quivering hand, he weakly brushes her wet
cheek. And then his hand falls. A ghost of his smile still remains
as he lets go his last breath.
MORGANA
Mordred... No...

MORGANA bows over him, shaking her head. Tears run down her cheeks
as she strokes his scarred but peaceful face.
MERLIN and ARTHUR look on, stunned and emotional. GWEN, the
KNIGHTS, and the SOLDIERS are all baffled by MORDRED’s sacrifice,
unsure whether they should resume battle or not.
Breathing heavily, little by little MORGANA lifts her head. Her

eyes scan the SOLDIERS from both sides of the war. Her grief is now
mingled with a burning determination. With the fury of a mother who
has just lost a second son, she rises, allowing MERLIN to take her
place in holding MORDRED.
MORGANA
(to armies)
Listen to me. ALL OF YOU!
Still reeling, ALL pull their gazes from MORDRED and look to
MORGANA as she marches towards the center of the circle the
SOLDIERS have formed, an absolute mess, face tear-streaked and
blood-splattered.
MORGANA
LISTEN!
ARTHUR and MERLIN remain with MORDRED, their wondering, tear-filled

eyes following MORGANA.
MORGANA
(loud, passionate)
When did war become the only way to
achieve peace? When did death become
the only way to ensure life?
(pointing at Mordred)
Look at the devastation we’ve caused
in our pursuit of “peace”! Do you
even know what you’re fighting for?
Because I’ve fought on both sides,
and I can tell you every man here is
fighting for the same thing!
(exhale, deep longing)
To be free.

ALL listen, taking in her words.
MORGANA
For centuries, men have longed for a
land of peace. Somehow they came to
believe conflict is the way to reach
it. But this cannot last! We need a
true leader! Someone who will treat
us as equals! Someone who will judge
us based on who we are – not who we
were! Someone who will bring about
this kingdom of peace men have so
long dreamt of! And if this man —
(points to Arthur)
— if this KING can lead us there,
then I say we stand at his side and
LET THIS KINGDOM COME!
MORGANA’s words ring out across the battlefield, piercing the ears
and pricking the consciences of the SOLDIERS.
Moved, one ENEMY SOLDIER, whose head bleeds from an injury,

releases his weapon in surrender, utterly drained from the war.
Inspired by this, one of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS does the same, and lets
his sword fall.
Another one of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS and an ENEMY SOLIDER eye each

other warily before dropping their swords.
This causes a chain reaction until SOLDIERS from both sides are
casting down their weapons, the desire to fight wrung from them.
MERLIN and ARTHUR watch in astonishment at the thickening piles of
weapons in the sand. MORGANA is equally astounded by the effect her
words have had.
ELYAN looks to GWEN; she steps forward and drops her weapon. ELYAN
follows suit, and then the rest of the KNIGHTS.
MORGANA
Now, who among you will take the
first step toward reparation?!

Gently, MERLIN closes MORDRED’s eyes. Passing a hand over his face,
he uses magic to heal the burn scars he gave him. They fade and
vanish, leaving MORDRED looking like himself at last. As he and
ARTHUR hoist MORDRED up, GWEN and the KNIGHTS come forward to
assist them. One of ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS breaks away from the two
ARMIES, followed by SOLDIERS from both sides. They all gather
around MORDRED's body and help lift it.
With MORDRED now raised above their heads, the two united ARMIES
carry him forward, MORGANA trailing behind them.
GO OUT on MORDRED with the CAMERA aimed down at him from above as
the ARMIES bear his body down the beach, away from the FALLEN
SOLDIERS and abandoned weapons littering the sand. No one leaves
with a sword, for their days of war are no more.
Today, mercy has triumphed over judgment.

FADE TO BLACK.
FADE IN:
[32] WORDS ON SCREEN:
“AFTER MONTHS OF POLITICAL DEBATE AND CONTROVERSY, IT WAS FINALLY

ACCEPTED BY ALL AND ESTABLISHED THAT ARTHUR IS THE ONCE AND FUTURE
KING AND HEIR TO THE THRONE OF ALBION, THE UNITED KINGDOMS.”
FADE IN FROM BLACK.
INT. SANCTUARY (HALLWAY / THRONE ROOM) – DAY 3.
MERLIN is dressed in robes that look remarkably similar to those he

once wore during his days as Court Magician of Camelot. He tugs at
them as he walks, frustrated and itchy.
As he heads down the hall, SUBJECTS pass him, each of them dressed
in medieval fineries and hurrying on their way.
GWAINE happens to be among those passing him, clad in his finest

uniform as a Knight of Albion. On his arm is the woman from the
night club who was gambling with him in EP4 of S6: DONNA, who is
now dressed like a medieval lady.
As the pair goes by, GWAINE smirks at MERLIN and claps him on the
back.
GWAINE
Nice dress, Merlin.

Glaring as GWAINE and DONNA hasten off with the last of the
SUBJECTS passing through the hall, MERLIN starts fidgeting with his
robes all the more.
MORGANA (O.C.)
Are you having some trouble there?
Looking over his shoulder, MERLIN sees MORGANA, looking as striking

as ever with her styled hair and gorgeous gown, an amused half-
smile on her face.
MERLIN
It’s these... confounded robes. I
don’t know why Arthur insisted I wear
them. I look like an imbecile.
MORGANA
(eyeing him up and down)
Mmm... I don’t know. I think they
make you look rather fetching.
MERLIN’s face blanks.
MORGANA
Come on. We’ll be late.
MORGANA passes him and disappears around the corner with a sexy
swish of her gown. MERLIN glances down at his clothes. He looks up,
twitching his eyebrows. Hm. Maybe these robes aren’t so bad after
all...
CUT TO:
MORGANA has joined GWAINE, LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, and ELYAN, who are
the only ones left outside the doors to the throne room (the doors
are shut for the moment). The KNIGHTS chatter with excitement.
ELYAN
I still can’t believe this day has
come. After all this time...
GWAINE
Ah, we all know Arthur likes to keep
people waiting.
PERCIVAL
But this day was worth the wait.
Arthur’s reign will be the dawn of a
new era — an era where the past and
the present are one. Magic will be
spread freely throughout the world.
All the nations of the earth will
finally know peace.

MERLIN approaches MORGANA and touches her arm. She gives him a kiss
on the cheek. MERLIN turns away, hiding his blushing face.
LANCELOT’s gaze is drawn away as GWEN glides down the hall, looking
radiant in her new gown. He breaks away from the others, positively
enchanted by her splendor.
LANCELOT
You look... beautiful, my Queen.
GWEN
(flattered smile)
It’s just “Lady” now, actually. I’m
no longer a queen.
But LANCELOT shakes his head, taking her hand.

LANCELOT
You will always be a queen to me.
Once...
He presses a kiss to her hand.
LANCELOT
...and future.
Now GWEN is the enchanted one. Speechless, she can do nothing but
smile.
ARTHUR (O.C.)
Is everything in order?
ALL fall silent. ARTHUR now stands before them, clad in regal robes
— no more need for armour or chainmail. He wears a cape of velvet
lined with fur draped about his shoulders, but no crown: not yet.
Upon seeing him, MERLIN, MORGANA, GWEN, and the four KNIGHTS bow.
MORGANA
It is now, Sire.
ARTHUR
Then you all had better quiet down.

The four KNIGHTS adopt their proper formation, two pairs; they are
the first to stand before the doors; followed by MORGANA and GWEN,
who stand side by side; then ARTHUR and MERLIN right behind them.
They ALL wait a beat.
The doors open. Light floods the hall. The four KNIGHTS enter,
LANCELOT and GWAINE side by side, followed by PERCIVAL and ELYAN.
TRACKING SHOT follows the four down the aisle, flanked by two long
rows of SUBJECTS.
From the lofts, SERVANTS sprinkle rose petals over the people.
Banners hang from poles extending from the walls.
The KNIGHTS make their way to the front of the room where they
separate, two to each side, and take their places at the front of
CROWDS.
The next to enter are MORGANA and GWEN, beaming smiles on their
faces, basking in the glory of the moment. Together they cross the
aisle and then separate and take their places, GWEN to the side
with LANCELOT and PERCIVAL, MORGANA to the side with GWAINE and
ELYAN.
In the hall, ARTHUR and MERLIN are the last two left. Before they
enter, ARTHUR turns to MERLIN.
ARTHUR
Try not to cry, now.
MERLIN
You too.
Their smiles turn serious.
ARTHUR
Did you really mean it when you said
you would’ve waited a million years
more for me?
MERLIN
(beat – a nod)
I still do.
ARTHUR
(takes this in – beat)
I would have waited for you too.
MERLIN
(meaningful smile)
I know.

ARTHUR faces ahead, inhales deeply, so ready for this moment.
MERLIN
Your kingdom awaits... Sire.
ARTHUR exhales and, standing tall, he leads the way into the throne
room, with MERLIN faithfully trailing behind. Both are met with a
wave of bows as they pass.
The two clear the long walk, where MERLIN parts from ARTHUR and
walks up the short flight of steps which lead to the throne.
ARTHUR kneels down upon the steps. A BISHOP comes forward, with
MERLIN now standing beside him. MERLIN bears a pillow upon which
rests a magnificent, jeweled CROWN, glinting in the sunlight
pouring in through the windows.
BISHOP
Will you, Arthur Pendragon, solemnly
swear to govern, guide, and protect
the people of Albion?
ARTHUR
I solemnly swear so to do.
BISHOP
Will you, to your power, exercise
Justice and Mercy in all your
judgments?
ARTHUR
I will.
ARTHUR meets MERLIN’s eyes. They are so ready for this moment.
On one side of the aisle, GWEN, LANCELOT, and PERCIVAL beam at

ARTHUR. On the other, MORGANA, GWAINE, and ELYAN do the same.
The BISHOP turns and takes the CROWN between both hands and lifts
it over ARTHUR’s head.
BISHOP
Then, by the power vested in me, I
crown you Arthur Pendragon...
(places the crown upon Arthur’s head)
...King of Albion.

With one last smile at MERLIN, ARTHUR rises and faces the CROWD,
which roars their praise and adoration. The King stands before
them, basking in this long-awaited moment. The people are CHEERING,
the rose petals are falling. It’s a moment of big JOY at this
magnificent event. This is the dawn of Albion, and we get to see
it.
[33] After a long, exciting beat, ARTHUR raises his hands for
quiet. When the racket has died down, he speaks.
ARTHUR
(slow, sincere)
Thank you.
(beat)
Thank you all – to those who have
come to share in this wondrous day,
and to those who smile down on us
from above. To King Leon, Sir
Galahad... to Sir Mordred... without
whom none of us would be here now.
We take in the faces of those gathered: the KNIGHTS, MORGANA, GWEN.

We take in MERLIN. There is a solemn air, a bittersweetness. They
owe everything to their fallen friends.
ARTHUR
There is no victory without loss...
but not one of these losses has been
in vain. I can never express the
depth of my gratitude for the
sacrifices that have brought us to
this moment.
(beat – serious, joyful)
And that being said, my first action
as king is to honor someone who has
sacrificed for me in ways no one else
has.
ARTHUR turns toward MERLIN, who is grinning obliviously, too caught

up in this glorious moment to notice.
ARTHUR (O.C.)
Merlin?
MERLIN glances at ARTHUR. Oh – wait, ARTHUR is looking at him

deliberately! MERLIN is confused. As he glances out at the CROWD,
it hits him: he is the center of attention.
MERLIN’s smile vanishes. He has no idea what this means.
ARTHUR
(kindly)
Come, Merlin.

After a beat of bewilderment, MERLIN comes to stand before the

King. He faces him on the steps.
ARTHUR
(loud for all to hear)
Kneel.
MERLIN obeys. He still has no idea what is going on. Who is he to

intrude on ARTHUR’s moment of glory?
ARTHUR
I’ve thought long and hard about the
appropriate title to bestow upon you.
It wasn’t easy, considering all
you’ve meant to me.
(affectionate smile)
You anguished over having not saved
me from death once, but the truth is,
you already saved me long before
then.
A SERVANT comes to stand at ARTHUR’s side, holding another pillow —

from MERLIN’s position, we cannot see what rests on it. ARTHUR
smiles down at him.
ARTHUR
(loud)
For your centuries of service to the
kingdom and to your King as servant,
sorcerer, advisor, protector, and
friend, and for venturing far above
and beyond the line of duty in all of
these...
Turning, ARTHUR raises from the pillow a golden CHAIN OF OFFICE and
holds it into view. The medallion bears the golden Dragon of the
Pendragon crest.
ARTHUR
I bid you, rise, Merlin Emrys
Ambrosius...
ARTHUR lifts the CHAIN OF OFFICE and drapes it over MERLIN’s head.
ARTHUR
...Kingmaker of Albion.

The CROWD goes insane with cheer and praise. MERLIN is speechless,
breathless, staring down at the Dragon medallion hanging on the
CHAIN OF OFFICE.
ARTHUR
(a laugh in his voice)
Rise, Merlin.
MERLIN starts. Still stunned, he rights himself and turns into the
light of the windows to face the CROWD as they cheer, lauding him
with admiration. ARTHUR steps back to give him the moment.
ARTHUR
(to himself, relieved sigh)
Rise and shine.
The CROWD roars. GWAINE, ELYAN, LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, GWEN, MORGANA –

they all beam at MERLIN, some with tears glistening in their eyes.
They know MERLIN deserves this. He more than deserves this.
MERLIN is utterly blown away.
This is it: the culmination of all his years of toil, of

loneliness, of endless loyalty and devotion. It’s done. He has
fought the good fight, and now he has his eternal reward.
SLOW-MO: MERLIN finds himself standing before an entire kingdom —

his people. His friends. His family. And as he takes this in, the
memory of the fifteen hundred years of grief, of pain, and of
solitude seem like no more than a distant dream.
GO OUT on MERLIN, with tears in his eyes, absolutely overwhelmed

THE BACKGROUND.
The hall is decorated with banners and garlands. SERVANTS bustle to

and fro carrying trays of food. The room is filled with excited
chatter.
TRACKING SHOT. Numerous SUBJECTS are seated at the table. GWAINE,

LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, and ELYAN sit beside each other, laughing
uproariously; GWAINE has his arm around DONNA.
We follow MERLIN as he passes alongside the table with a tray of
food – he comes to an abrupt stop when he almost crashes into
ARTHUR, whose arms are crossed in disapproval. ARTHUR takes the

tray from MERLIN and sets it aside on the table. No more serving
for Merlin. At least, not for tonight.
ARTHUR pulls out a chair for him and forces him into it, and then
he takes his seat at MERLIN’s left.
In the chair to MERLIN’s right, MORGANA gives MERLIN an amused

look. MERLIN shrugs in response.
SLOW MOTION FOR THE REST OF THE SCENE.
MERLIN leans in close to MORGANA and whispers something. It draws a

genuine, beautiful laugh out of her. A big, sunny grin from MERLIN.
He’s delighted.
GWEN steals a grape from LANCELOT’s plate and pops it into her
mouth. LANCELOT turns to her, feigning outrage. GWEN answers with a
playful grin.
GWAINE, PERCIVAL, and ELYAN clink their glasses together and drink.
ALL those around the table begin to do the same.
ARTHUR lifts his glass to his friends, smiling.
TRANSITION:
EXT. SANCTUARY (BALCONY) – NIGHT 2.
SONG STILL PLAYING
MERLIN and ARTHUR stand side by side at the railing of the balcony,
gazing out. Torches light the kingdom below. A soft breeze nips at
their hair and regal attire as they absorb the beauty of the night.
They glance at one another and smile – two soldiers, two friends
who have conquered death and more together. In this moment, no
words are needed to express all they feel.
KILGHARRAH (V.O.)
In a land of myth and a time of
magic, the destiny of a great kingdom
has finally been fulfilled – a
destiny that concerned King Arthur,

Magician Morgana, King Leon, Sir

From the corner of his eye, MERLIN looks at ARTHUR slyly. He gives
him a gentle nudge with his elbow. ARTHUR gives him a look, then
nudges him back. A soft chuckle from the both of them.
KILGHARRAH (V.O.)
Merlin.
The CAMERA holds on MERLIN and ARTHUR, smiling, at peace, and then
slowly PANS to the starry night sky, where we see the magical
constellation of the SCALES OF JUSTICE.
And at last, the SCALES OF JUSTICE are in perfect balance. At last,

the trial is over.
The time of Albion has come.
FADE TO BLACK.
END CREDITS ROLL UNTIL COLDPLAY SONG FINISHES.

[1] BLACK SCREEN. FADE IN...

EXT. BEACH (SEA CLIFFS) – DAY 1.

Overcast. Establishing shot of the ocean. Waves caper over each

ARTHUR approaches from behind. As he nears, MERLIN speaks.

ARTHUR takes his place at MERLIN’s side.

White waves break against the faces of the cliffs.

ARTHUR starts down the cliff. After a beat, MERLIN follows.

INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (DRAWING ROOM) – DAY 1.

He awaits a response. ELAINE does not acknowledge him.

ELAINE pauses, eyes narrowing at them.

EXT. SANCTUARY – DAY 1.

SERIES OF SHOTS: INT. SANCTUARY (ARMOURY / HEALING CHAMBERS) / EXT.

The Sanctuary is alive with activity and chatter as the SUBJECTS

In the armoury, weapons are sharpened and armour is fitted.

On the Sanctuary grounds, ARTHUR’S SOLDIERS practice with swords,
