Season 6 Episode VIII
“THE GOOD KNIGHT”
FADE IN:
INTRO
KILGHARRAH (V.O.)
In a land where magic is all but
myth, the destiny of a great kingdom
rests on the shoulders of the most
powerful sorcerer ever to walk the
earth. His name? Merlin.
EXT. LONDON CITY (FLAT BUILDING / STREET) – NIGHT 1.
[1] MERLIN, ARTHUR, and GWEN race outside, each bearing a lit
candle. It’s pitch-black. They can barely make heads or tails of
their surroundings.
The WHIRRING and SPUTTERING SOUND of a HELICOPTER plummeting from

the sky fills the air. In the distance, they hear the thunderous
EXPLOSION as it crashes.
CIVILIANS gasp and cry out in horror. This HELICOPTER is just one
of many distant AIRCRAFT that we hear plunging to earth and
EXPLODING, redolent of London during World War II.
All the CARS in the street have skidded, screeched to a halt. Some
CIVILIANS are getting out of their CARS to help those who involved
in accidents. Not a single street lamp works.
MORGANA and GALAHAD tear out of the building and join MERLIN,
ARTHUR, and GWEN.
MORGANA
What the hell is going on?
GALAHAD
Did I blow a fuse?
MERLIN
Blowing a fuse wouldn’t affect planes
or cars. We’ve lost everything.

MERLIN gives a start as he receives a telepathic message.
INTERCUT WITH: EXT. / INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (MORDRED’S CHAMBERS) –

CONTINUOUS.
CAMERA hovers outside MORDRED’s window. He gazes out, holding a

candle that illuminates his pale face.
MORDRED (V.O.)
What are you playing at, Emrys? Did
someone sneeze on the King and you
went a little overboard?
MERLIN (V.O.)
(hostile)
What are you talking about, Mordred?
MORDRED (V.O.)
The power, the lights, everything?
MERLIN (V.O.)
That’s not you?
MORDRED (V.O.)
What do you mean? That’s not you?
MERLIN (V.O.)
If you didn’t do anything, and we
didn’t do anything... then what's
happened to all the power?
GALAHAD raises his head to the sky, eyes wide and wondering.
GALAHAD
Look!
GWEN gasps. ALL look up.

The STARS are ten times more brilliant than usual, and growing
brighter still — but more than that: billions of them are moving.
They tumble from their positions, gathering in the middle of the
sky.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (MORDRED’S CHAMBERS) – CONTINUOUS.
MORDRED stares out his window at the sky, mystified by what he

sees. We see the shooting STARS reflected in his eyes.

EXT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE – CONTINUOUS.
ELAINE hurries down the front steps of the castle and joins
MORGAUSE, ACCOLON, LORD VORTIGERN, LORD MALEAGANT, LADY LAUDINE,
and LORD OBERON, who gape up at the sky in frightened amazement.
CUT TO:
MERLIN, ARTHUR, GWEN, MORGANA, GALAHAD, and other CIVILIANS gaze

up. The STARS continue to increase in luminosity, growing brighter
and brighter as they gather in the center of the sky.
GWEN
(fearful whisper)
What’s happening?
MERLIN
(transfixed, wonderstruck)
The stars are creating a new
constellation.
ALL watch in awe as the STARS mass into one distinct image,
glittering white against the black firmament: massive SCALES OF
JUSTICE, on which the scales are remarkably uneven.

ARTHUR
(dreading, staring up)
Merlin, what is this?
MERLIN
I have no idea.
The CIVILIANS gathered on the streets stand in a stunned stupor,

necks craned back to view the spectacle above. Scattered VOICES
from the CROWD arise in fear (some on camera, some off).
CIVILIAN #1
What’s going on?
CIVILIAN #2
(panicked)
What was that?
CIVILIAN #3
Maybe it was an EMP.

Are we under attack?
CIVILIAN #5
The lot of you have been watching
telly, same as me. We’ve heard about
the earthquakes and uncanny sky
behavior. There is only one
explanation: it’s the end of the
world!
CIVILIAN #6
Hush! You’ll frighten the children.
CIVILIAN #3
Is it something with the sun? Some
kind of flare?
CIVILIAN #7
(terrified)
What about the sun? Is it going to
explode?
MORGANA pulls GALAHAD close to her. She looks to MERLIN for an

answer. He can give none.
Though unsure of all of this himself, ARTHUR addresses the CIVILIANS.
ARTHUR
Everyone, just... stay calm. Do not
fear. Most likely, this is the work
of magic.
Some CIVLIANS give startled looks, while others pay him no mind.
GWEN
(low)
Arthur, nobody believes in magic
these days.
ARTHUR
Nobody? No one at all?
A VOICE pierces over the soft, horrified murmurs of those gathered.
DRIVER (O.C.)
Hey! Someone help!

ARTHUR, GWEN, MERLIN, and some CIVILIANS turn their heads toward
the street, where a DRIVER gestures to a particular ACCIDENT. The
entire street, for that matter, is clogged with CRASHED CARS that
lost control when the power went out. One thing is for certain:
this is not a normal power outage.
ARTHUR, MERLIN, GWEN, and some CIVILIANS hurry into the street to
the ACCIDENT: a rear-end collision. The rear of the CAR in front is
on top of the hood of the CAR behind it, crushing the VICTIM inside.
The DRIVER of the second CAR has gotten out, holding a hand to his
bleeding head as he peers into the window at the VICTIM. He turns
when ARTHUR and the others approach.
DRIVER
He isn’t conscious. I can’t tell if
he’s still alive...
ARTHUR
We’ll find out.
The DRIVER steps aside. ARTHUR comes to the CAR of the DRIVER,
which crushes the hood of the VICTIM’s CAR.
ARTHUR
Help me with this.
ARTHUR, MERLIN, GWEN, and the CIVILIANS all put their hands beneath
the CAR, poised to try hoisting it up.
ARTHUR
Ready? One, two, three!
Using all their combined strength, they attempt to lift the second
CAR off the first one. When it’s apparent that they will need an
extra ounce of strength, MERLIN employs a silent SPELL (his eyes
flash gold) that gives them just enough power to lift the CAR. They
set it down with a loud CRASH.
While the CIVILIANS assess the VICTIM, MERLIN’s stare wanders from
the accident.
MERLIN
(grim)
Look.

GWEN and ARTHUR follow MERLIN’s gaze down the rest of the street to
the intersection and beyond. Every street as far as their eyes can
see is laden with multiple CAR ACCIDENTS, some minor, some serious.
Injured CIVILIANS moan in pain and disorientation. Utter
desolation.
GWEN
I will go to the Sanctuary and get
Leon. He can bring help to search for
survivors from the crashes and assist
in any way possible.
ARTHUR
Without a cab, it would take hours to
get there.
GWEN
I know where to find some mounted
police officers. Perhaps I can
convince one of them to lend me a
horse. You and Merlin had better stay
here and help.
ARTHUR
Be careful, Guinevere.
ARTHUR kisses her, and then she takes off. As ARTHUR turns, he
spots MERLIN running back to their flat.
ARTHUR
Where are you going?
MERLIN
I need to check something!
Without further question, ARTHUR takes off after him.
CUT TO:
INT. FLAT BUILDING (STAIRS) – CONTINUOUS.
He trails MERLIN up several flights of steps until they reach the

roof.
CUT TO:
SERIES OF SHOTS: EXT. FLAT BUILDING (ROOF) / LONDON CITY (STREETS,

ALLEYS, ESTABLISHING) / ATLANTIC OCEAN / NEW YORK (TIMES SQUARE /
STATUE OF LIBERTY)/ PACIFIC OCEAN / CHINA (STREETS) JAPAN (TOKYO) –
CONTINUOUS.
MERLIN runs to the edge of the flat’s roof. Eyes flash gold. He
deploys his MAGIC SIGHT to search the city. In a matter of seconds,
his SIGHT speeds down streets and alleys, outside the city, outside

of England, outside of Europe, across the ocean -- past motorboats

that have lost electricity -- over America where the sun has just
begun to set, through a Times Square devoid of electricity, to the
Statue of Liberty -- he zooms across the continent: he skims across
the Pacific Ocean all the way around to China, where chaos and CAR
ACCIDENTS fill the streets -- to a lifeless Tokyo in Japan... His
SIGHT zooms faster and faster until we can't even tell what we're
looking at, racing and building...!
CUT back to MERLIN, who gives a hard JERK as he breaks out of his
magic SIGHT, panting from the energy his magic took. A look of
unspeakable horror fills his eyes. What this has revealed is
worldwide devastation.
Worldwide darkness.
ARTHUR
What is it?
MERLIN
(low, horrified)
The entire planet is without
electricity. Whatever has happened…
it happened to the whole world.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (ENTRANCE HALL) – NIGHT 1.
[3] MORDRED, ACCOLON, MORGAUSE, LORD OBERON, LORD VORTIGERN, LORD

MALEAGENT, and LADY LAUDINE are gathered. They each hold magic ORBS
OF LIGHT in their hands that resemble plasma balls and illuminate
the hall in a cool, indigo glow.
LORD MALAEGENT
I suspect foul play. Emrys may plead
not guilty, but what could have
caused such devastation if not magic?
Perhaps it is meant to distract us
from his King.
LADY LAUDINE
Why would he risk the lives of
millions for one man?
MORDRED
You would be surprised what Emrys is
willing to sacrifice for Arthur, Lady
Laudine.
LORD VORTIGERN
How could we not have predicted this?

MORGAUSE
I think we did... Our attempts to
divine revealed only darkness, and
now here it is.
LORD OBERON
But how are we to carry out our plans
if we can hardly see a thing?
ACCOLON
It’s not as though your eyes were any
better before, Lord Oberon.
MORGAUSE
My Lord Accolon, this is a serious
matter. Do restrain yourself. Now
that the crystals have become usable,
we can observe Emrys and his King
from a distance.
MORDRED
(impatient)
Enough "observing from a distance."
We must act now, while chaos reigns.
If the King insists on keeping
Morgana under watch, we must carry
out our plans through other means.
LORD VORTIGERN
We have more than one concern right
now, Mordred. Be patient.
MORDRED rolls his eyes. Ridiculous. Who are they to tell him to be
patient? His gaze lands on ACCOLON, who was already watching him
across the way.
While MORGAUSE and the LORDS and LADY carry on their conversation,
muffled and indistinct in the background, MORDRED and ACCOLON use
their telepathy.
ACCOLON (V.O.)
You are getting an idea.
MORDRED (V.O.)
Do you recall that cave to which
Emrys and Arthur took Sir Gwaine a
few days past?
ACCOLON (V.O.)
I do.

MORDRED (V.O.)
If he believed it held the key to
returning Sir Gwaine’s memories,
perhaps it holds more than one
secret. It might be worth a look
while the lords and ladies are too
preoccupied to order us around.
ACCOLON contemplates this.
MORDRED (V.O.)
What say you we do a bit of
spelunking?
ACCOLON (V.O.)
If you promise never to use that word
again, then yes.
They smirk at each other from across the room.
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (GREAT HALL) – NIGHT 1.
[4] ELYAN leads GWEN into the vast great hall. The Sanctuary
doesn't seem to have been affected by the outside darkness. Still
fully operational, still alight with torches as bright as day. With
all the SUBJECTS dressed in their medieval raiment, it looks like
GWEN has just stepped into the past.
LEON strides up to her.
LEON
Guinevere. No doubt you’ve seen the
sky. Why have you come alone? Where
are Merlin and Arthur?
GWEN
Merlin and Arthur are with Morgana.
Leon, do you have power here?
LEON
Power? No, the Sanctuary is not run
on electricity. Why? Has something
happened?
GWEN
The entire city and every place along
the way here have lost power. It’s no
normal power outage – its affected
planes, cars, everything. Help is
needed all over.

LEON
Elyan, rally some men.
With a short bow, ELYAN heads off. LEON turns back to GWEN, his
face filled with loving concern.
LEON
I will go with you to the city.
GWEN smiles in gratitude.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON CITY (STREET / FLAT BUILDING) – NIGHT 1.
[5] ARTHUR and a few CIVILIANS are still assisting the injured. His
gaze wanders back to the flat. MERLIN, MORGANA, and GALAHAD stand
outside it, MERLIN deep in thought. ARTHUR approaches, exhausted.
MORGANA
Has anyone figured out what’s
happened?
ARTHUR
Not yet.
(noticing Merlin’s frown)
What is it?
MERLIN looks at him. After a beat, he gestures for ARTHUR to speak

with him a few feet away. They step aside together.
MERLIN
I keep thinking about the prophecy I
had in the car, on the way back from
the cave with Gwaine... I may have
started piecing it together. You see
the Scales of Justice?
Both look up to the new CONSTELLATION; it glitters overhead.
MERLIN
The scales are uneven. That means
there’s an imbalance that needs to be
restored.
(looking back at Arthur, fast)
Now, the prophecy goes on to speak of
darkness – darkness that is a
punishment. “Darkness in payment of
darkness, for the power that man hath
denied.”

ARTHUR
(nods slowly)
Well, what power could mankind have
denied?
MERLIN
(passionate)
The Power of all powers: Magic
Itself. You’ve seen the way people
react to talk of magic – the doubt
expressed by the castle guards,
despite what they'd seen; the
incredulous looks people gave you
when you said magic must be involved.
These days, belief in magic has been
confined to myth, treated as
something to be mocked, scorned.
ARTHUR
So you think that Magic is punishing
mankind?
MERLIN
More than that: it has taken
electricity, man’s greatest
preoccupation, so that people will be
forced to return to the old ways and
wonder why, what force is behind
this? Is it merely natural... or
could it be supernatural? Magic is
fighting back.
ARTHUR’s face turns somber as he realizes the impact this will have
on the world.
ARTHUR
Then you don’t think the power will
come back at all.
MERLIN
My prophecy called it the Sempiternal
Shadow. “Sempiternal” means forever,
so... I wouldn’t count on it.
ARTHUR
What are we to do, then?

MERLIN
(after a beat of hesitation)
Help in whatever way we can. I’d use
magic, but I can’t risk Morgana
noticing. If we triggered her
memories now, all hell would break
loose.
(sigh)
I have candles in my flat – dozens of
them. I’ll enchant them so they’ll
stay lit longer. We can pass them
out to those treating the wounded.
ARTHUR
Good. Enchant them, but then you
should have Morgana join you so you
can keep an eye on her. It would not
surprise me if Mordred tried to use
this moment of turmoil to retrieve
her.
MERLIN
Yes, Sire.
CUT TO:
EXT. FOREST – NIGHT 1.
[6] LEON, GWEN, LANCELOT, PERCIVAL, ELYAN, and GWAINE ride their
HORSES through the forest on their way to the city. A couple dozen
SOLDIERS ride behind them. ALL are wearing their Sanctuary livery –
chainmail and armor.
LEON watches GWEN, who rides farther ahead, as they go. Finally, he
looks back at the others.
LEON
Knights, maintain your pace. I would
like a word with the Queen.
Hearing him, GWEN casts a questioning glance over her shoulder as he

pulls up alongside her, leaving the KNIGHTS a little distance
behind.
ELYAN
When did he start giving all the
orders?
PERCIVAL
Sir Leon was made husband and king to
Gwen three years after Arthur’s death.

ELYAN and GWAINE are shocked by this revelation.
ELYAN
(dumbfounded)
Leon was married to Gwen?
LANCELOT
(eyes on Gwen)
That is true. Percival was there. How
torn she must’ve felt – must still
feel...
GWAINE
That would explain the tension I’ve
picked up on, then.
ELYAN
Indeed...
CUT TO:
Up ahead, LEON and GWEN ride side by side.
LEON
Guinevere. I have been meaning to...
ascertain whether we are both on the
same page.
(beat)
You are happy now that you have
Arthur back?
GWEN
(can’t resist a smile)
Oh, yes. It truly is a miracle. These
past few days have been so
overwhelming.
LEON
I thought... perhaps you had grown
accustomed to... the way things were.
GWEN watches him. Oh dear... She knows where this is going.
LEON
And if not, then forget I ever spoke.
But I want you to know that the days
I spent with you were the happiest of
my life, and I shall cherish them
always.

LEON awaits her response, hopeful and anxious. GWEN is caught off
guard. It’s not the best time for this. She doesn’t know what to
say.
GWEN
Leon, I... When you said you had
always loved me, you must understand
there were different ways of
interpreting that. I hope I haven’t
seemed rude.
LEON
No, of course not.
GWEN
We have been through so much
together. I will never forget all
you’ve done for me. And I will always
love you... but not in the same way I
love Arthur.
LEON takes this in. He musters a smile to hide his sorrow.
LEON
Then I wish you every happiness.
He urges his horse forward and rides on ahead.
GWEN
Leon?
But LEON is already out of earshot. GWEN is torn. No matter what

she does, one of her dearest friends will be left heartbroken.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (ELAINE’S CHAMBERS) – NIGHT 1.

[7] ELAINE lounges in a chair at her crystal table, which projects
images of ARTHUR in conversation with some CIVILIANS. She observes,
brow bent in concentration. MORGAUSE enters.
MORGAUSE
Can you see Morgana?
ELAINE swipes her hand over the surface of the table to pan her
view of the present over to MORGANA, who is inside MERLIN’s flat,
collecting candles with him.
ELAINE
It is impossible to get her alone.

They watch MORGANA spare a gentle smile for something MERLIN has
said. MERLIN looks uncomfortable and busies himself with more
candles.
MORGAUSE
With all the commotion, Emrys and the
King will not be able to watch her
forever. When she is alone, I will go
to her.
CUT TO:
EXT. FOREST – NIGHT 1.
The usual spooky fog clouds the forest. Foliage crunches beneath
each step of MORDRED and ACCOLON, who walk side by side.
MORDRED
I am certain the people are in a
panic. No doubt Arthur is using this
to his advantage to win allies. Soon
everyone will be forced to choose a
side.
ACCOLON
(half-hearted; his mind is elsewhere)
Indeed.
(long beat)
Mordred... There is something you
should know about me. I have made
some... mistakes in the past.
Mistakes that have come back to haunt
me. If there is anyone I can trust, I
know it to be you.
MORDRED
You flatter me. What is it?
ACCOLON
Almost ten years past... I
encountered the Lady Morgana.
MORDRED
(astonished)
Morgana...? She returned before me?
ACCOLON
Yes... At the time, I did not know
who she was. She had no family, no
connections. Just a lonely woman
trying to find her way. I
developed... an attraction for her
that was not reciprocated. So... I...

(carefully choosing words)

...manipulated the situation to my
advantage.
MORDRED
Manipulated? In what way?
ACCOLON
(downplaying it)
Just a simple spell. It influenced
her into cooperating with my wishes.
After a short time passed, I grew
bored of her and lifted the
enchantment. It wasn’t until years
later that I learned of her true
identity. But, as it turns... our
brief time together brought about the
birth of a son.
MORDRED freezes where he stands. He can’t be hearing this.
MORDRED
You...? A son? Wait, what are you
saying? You...
His eyes widen in horror as he puts it together.
MORDRED
(horrified, appalled)
You...? Accolon, how could you?
ACCOLON
(uneasy)
It was a long time ago. And of
course, given this world’s ignorance
of magic, she was never even aware
that I coaxed her into it. But hear
me out, Mordred: when Morgana regains
her memories and puts the pieces
together, she will be enraged. She
would disclose my indiscretions to
our allies, and I fear the
consequences would be severe. I would
lose my claim to the immortality
Elaine has promised us. But my
solution is simple: I will kill
Morgana to bury the incident, and you
will take the throne in her stead,
with me ever at your side.
MORDRED
(hung up, devastated)

I looked up to you. I thought you

were a gentleman.
ACCOLON
I am no less your brother-in-arms.
MORDRED
(furious, intense)
No, you’ve betrayed me. You’ve
betrayed her. You are no brother of
mine.
MORDRED tries to storm off, but ACCOLON seizes him by the arm.
ACCOLON
Do not look only at my mistakes. Did
you not hear me? I want to help you
become king.
MORDRED
(realizing this)
No. Morgana is the rightful heir to
the throne. I could never rule with
Morgana’s wisdom.
ACCOLON
You underestimate yourself, Mordred.
Consider it.
MORDRED
What do you intend to do with her
son?
ACCOLON
Why should that concern you?
MORDRED
Accolon, Morgana is very dear to me.
You will not bring any more harm to
her – or her son. Do you hear me?
ACCOLON
Am I not also your friend?
MORDRED
I... I will not choose between the
two of you.

ACCOLON
The time may come when you are forced
to. You’ve said you will not repeat
the mistake of putting your trust in
the wrong people. You need to start
deciding who those wrong and right
people are, before the choice is no
longer yours to make.
After holding his gaze a moment longer, ACCOLON continues forward,

leaving a repulsed, bewildered, and conflicted MORDRED a few feet
behind him.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON CITY (STREET) – NIGHT 1.

[8] ARTHUR finishes up giving instructions to a couple of
CIVILIANS. GALAHAD stands beside him.
ARTHUR
Remember to go sparingly on your food
and water until further help arrives.
Turning to leave, ARTHUR heads down the street. GALAHAD follows

closely behind him.
GALAHAD
Are the rest of your knights going to
show up?
ARTHUR
(playing dumb)
What do you mean?
GALAHAD
I’m not a fool. I know you have
knights. Every king does.
ARTHUR
Galahad, why do you think I’m a king?
GALAHAD
I just do.
(beat)
Did you mean it when you said you
would knight me if I saved your life?
ARTHUR
That’s right.
GALAHAD looks thoughtfully ahead. ARTHUR looks thoughtfully at him.
CUT TO:

MERLIN and MORGANA hand out their last candle to a CIVILIAN.
MERLIN
That’s the last of them. It won’t be
long before they all melt.
Not far off, CIVILIANS haul several DEAD BODIES from the CAR
ACCIDENTS. They lay them side by side on the pavement. MORGANA
groans, horrified and sickened.
MORGANA
(grave)
Something needs to be done about
that. The children are frightened
enough as it is.
MERLIN
They have to sort the injured from
the dead somehow...
CIVILIAN #7 (O.C.)
Hey! You!
MERLIN glances up as CIVILIAN #7, who stands in the street

surrounded by CRASHED CARS, singles him out.
CIVILIAN #7
We need a hand over here!
MORGANA
(to Merlin)
You go. I’ll gather up some sheets…
to cover the bodies.
MERLIN
I’m not comfortable leaving you
alone.
MORGANA
Merlin, honestly, I’m much better off
than most. I can look after myself.
MERLIN
It’s not that –
CIVLIAN #7
(cutting him off)
Hurry up! We don’t have long!

MERLIN glances from CIVILIAN #7 to MORGANA. If anything were to

happen... If she gets her memories back...
MORGANA
Go. I’ll be fine.
Before he can argue any further, MORGANA takes off towards the
flat. Anxious, MERLIN stares after her for a beat before he turns
away to help CIVILIAN #7.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (ELAINE’S CHAMBERS) – NIGHT 1.
ELAINE and MORGAUSE glimpse through the crystal table at MORGANA,

who is now unprotected by both Merlin and Arthur.
MORGAUSE
Morgana is alone! Now is my chance.
ELAINE
Make haste. I will be watching.
MORGAUSE exits. ELAINE continues to gaze over MORGANA.
CUT TO:
[9] Sunrise. ARTHUR kneels on the paveway among several CIVILIANS,

binding up the arm of a CHILD VICTIM from one of the car accidents.
GALAHAD stands over him, watching with interest.
ARTHUR
(finishing)
There we are. You’re going to be
fine.
As ARTHUR straightens, MERLIN approaches him.
ARTHUR
Merlin. I was about to check up with
you. Are you feeling all right, or do
you need to take a break and sleep?
Not the best time for nightmares,
but... don’t want you fainting like a
girl again.
MERLIN
I’m all right.
ARTHUR
Where’s Morgana?

MERLIN
Her flat. She’s retrieving sheets to

Hearing this, GALAHAD takes off to search for his mother, unnoticed
by MERLIN and ARTHUR.
ARTHUR
(trying to alleviate the mood)
So did you two ever get around to
talking about... your kiss?
MERLIN
You mean her kiss.
ARTHUR can’t resist a smirk.
MERLIN
Not helping.
ARTHUR
Sorry.
MERLIN
If we come to it, I’ll just have to
tell her that – aside from the fact
that I killed her and we’re mortal
enemies – I’m not stable enough for
that sort of thing.
ARTHUR
Well... I suppose you have little
alternative. There’s nothing left to
say on it, then.
Sound of approaching HORSES. GWEN and LEON have just appeared at

the end of the street. The KNIGHTS come into view behind them,
along with several dozen SOLDIERS.
Relief washes over MERLIN when he spots GWAINE, finally free from
his captors. Oh, and – PERCIVAL! And – is that LANCELOT? Oh, and
ELYAN!
MERLIN jogs ahead of ARTHUR to greet them. When PERCIVAL sees him,
his face splits into a broad grin. He hops down from his HORSE.
PERCIVAL
You death-defying old fool! I can’t
believe you’re still around!

MERLIN laughs as they throw their arms around each other in a firm
embrace. LANCELOT, GWAINE, and ELYAN dismount and crowd around.
MERLIN
I can’t believe you’re all here.
PERCIVAL
You’ve not forgotten us, right?
MERLIN
(shoving Percival)
What, you mean like you all forgot
yourselves?
GWAINE
Yeah, and like you all forgot me?
MERLIN grins at GWAINE and hugs him.
MERLIN
(to Gwaine)
Thank the gods you’re safe.
PERCIVAL
Ah, Mordred is no match for Gwaine’s
quips and stupidity.
ARTHUR, LEON, and GWEN observe the joyful reunion with smiles. LEON
watches as ARTHUR takes GWEN’s hand. When MERLIN finishes his hug
with GWAINE, LANCELOT pulls MERLIN into an embrace before he barely
has the chance to see him.
MERLIN
Lancelot! Oh, it’s been centuries...
When LANCELOT pulls back, he meets MERLIN’s eyes with sincerity.
LANCELOT
How are you, Merlin? Are you well?
MERLIN
Well enough.
LANCELOT
I can’t imagine all that you’ve
endured... How strong you are.
The company of his dear friends brings tears to MERLIN's eyes.
ELYAN
All right, all right. Make a path. We
all know it was me that Merlin missed
most.

You’d be lucky if he even spared a
thought for you.
ELYAN shoves GWAINE. MERLIN laughs and embraces ELYAN. ARTHUR sets
hands on some of his fellow KNIGHTS.
CUT TO:
INT. BALINOR’S CAVE – NIGHT 1. WAL.
[10] BLACK SCREEN. ACCOLON uses magic to light his torch. Orange
light floods the screen. Behind him, MORDRED does the same.
ACCOLON
Keep up, Mordred.
MORDRED lags behind as they explore, still reeling from the horror
of what ACCOLON revealed to him.
ACCOLON
I wonder what significance this cave
could hold for Emrys.
MORDRED
(distant)
Who knows...
ACCOLON
(scowling)
What is that smell?
They stop and heed their surroundings.
ACCOLON
Do you recall that screeching sound
we heard the last time we were here?
Do you think it possible that some
fell creature lives here, stationed
by Emrys to protect the cave’s true
purpose?

MORDRED ventures farther. He holds his torch up, revealing a coiled

silhouette at the farthest reach of the cave.
No way...
When he gets closer, the firelight reflects off of pearl-white,

iridescent scales. With awe, he realizes the curled figure is none
other than the White Dragon: AITHUSA.
MORDRED
No, My Lord Accolon. I think that the
protection of the fell creature is
the cave’s true purpose.
CUT TO:
INT. MORGANA’S FLAT (MORGANA’S BEDROOM / HALLWAY / LIVING ROOM) –

DAY 1.
[11] Daybreak. Adding another sheet to a laundry basket, MORGANA

lifts the basket off her bed and carries it down the hall. When she
enters the living room, she freezes.
A figure stands at her window, gazing out: MORGAUSE.
MORGANA
Who are you? How did you get in?
MORGAUSE pivots and meets MORGANA’s eyes. A smile forms.
MORGANA
Who do you think you are? Get out of
my flat.
MORGAUSE
Morgana. You have no idea what a joy
it is to see you.
MORGAUSE approaches MORGANA. MORGANA backs away.
MORGAUSE
Do not be scared.
MORGANA
Stay away from me. How do you know my
name?
MORGAUSE
Everything is about to become
clear...

She seizes her wrist and before MORGANA can wrench it away,
MORGAUSE slips her old HEALING BRACELET onto her.
MORGAUSE
...sister dear.
A frown comes over MORGANA. Whoa... Déjà vu. She searches

MORGAUSE’s face. There is something familiar about her...
Wait a minute...
MORGANA
...Morgause...?
MORGAUSE wears a beaming smile.
CUT TO:
INT. BALINOR’S CAVE – CONTINUOUS. WAL.
MORDRED’s torch glimmers over the peaceful, sleeping shadow of

AITHUSA. How she's grown since last he saw her.
No time to lose.
MORDRED
Draw your sword.
ACCOLON complies. MORDRED considers the sword in ACCOLON’s hands,

and then his eyes flick to AITHUSA.
CUT TO:
INT. MORGANA’S FLAT (LIVING ROOM) – CONTINUOUS.
MORGANA and MORGAUSE pull back from their hug. MORGAUSE is

overjoyed; MORGANA is disoriented.
MORGANA
Morgause, how...? What’s happened?
Why...? Why am I here? Why are you
here? I thought you were dead...
MORGAUSE
Elaine and I have been searching for
you for so long now.
MORGANA
Elaine? Who – ?
MORGAUSE
Our sister, daughter of Vivian and
Gorlois.

(shocked, confused)
Our sister — ? What? How can that be?
MORGAUSE
There is so much to tell, but now is
not the time. Suffice it to say that,
with your memories now restored, we
can fulfill our destiny at last.
MORGANA
What do you mean?
CUT TO:

MORDRED places a gentle hand on AITHUSA. She stirs as he strokes
her nose.
MORDRED
Aithusa. It is me, Mordred. We were
allies once. Remember?
(beat)
I need you to do something for me.
CUT TO:
MORGAUSE
Mordred has an army of followers
founded by Elaine.
MORGANA
Mordred? He's alive?
MORGAUSE
His followers are headed by the Lords
and Lady Laudine. The few scattered
sorcerers in existence today have
inherited magic from their ancestors.
Many are unaware of their gifts;
others are in hiding. For years,
Elaine traveled the world, gathering
sorcerers to join us in the ongoing
war against King Arthur. And now that
you are back, you can help us find
the White Dragon, and we will forge a
sword in her breath: a sword powerful
enough to slay Emrys once and for
all.

MORGANA’s face changes, hardening.
MORGANA
(soft, seething)
Emrys?
CUT TO:
MORDRED steps back from AITHUSA as ACCOLON holds his sword out to
her. AITHUSA inhales and BREATHES A MYSTICAL FIRE on the sword,
enchanting it. MORDRED smiles, fire pirouetting in his eyes. Oh,
yes. Everything is finally falling into place.
CUT TO:
MORGANA picks up the teacup MERLIN touched the other night and
throws it against the wall, SHATTERING it.
MORGANA
(livid)
Emrys! That traitor! He killed me! He
drove a sword through my gut! And I
let him into my house! They tried to
keep me in the dark. I’ve had so many
chances to end his life these past
days and done nothing!
Enraged, she SCREAMS and releases a powerful BLAST OF MAGIC that

flips all the furniture and boxes in her flat. She levitates them
and flings them in all directions. MORGAUSE stays at her side to
avoid getting hit.
MORGAUSE
You shall make him pay, Morgana. Him
and Arthur both.
MORGANA
(A thought occurs at Arthur’s
name – hysterical with rage)
Arthur – he's alive! Even after all
this time, he is still after my
throne! It’s as if they were brought
back only to taunt me!

Another BLAST OF MAGIC. MORGANA breathes heavily, a familiar spark

of mania passing into her eyes.
MORGANA
(frenzied)
I want to kill Emrys, Morgause. I
want to be his downfall. I want to
haunt him as he once haunted me. To
watch him suffer the loss of his
precious "King" once more!
MORGAUSE
And so you shall. With Arthur and
Emrys out of the way, there will be
nothing left between you and the
throne of Albion.
A wicked smile crosses MORGANA’s face.
CUT TO:
AITHUSA’s work is finished. ACCOLON and MORDRED marvel at the newly

forged blade. It’s stunning. More than that: it is capable of
killing Emrys.
MORDRED’s eyes pass slowly to AITHUSA. There is something of regret

in his gaze.
MORDRED
We do not want this creature to serve
on the opposite side of the war. And
I will not force her to do otherwise.
Fear creeps into AITHUA’s eyes as she realizes what this means for
her.
MORDRED
(grim - difficulty saying the words)
Kill it.
ACCOLON PLUNGES the blade into AITHUSA’s right side, where the
Dragon’s heart is. AITHUSA screeches and rears up in pain.
CUT TO:

EXT. LONDON CITY (STREET) – CONTINUOUS.
MERLIN, who has just finished helping LANCELOT pull a VICTIM from a
CAR ACCIDENT, jolts as he feels his Dragonlord connection with
AITHUSA severing.
What just happened?
CUT TO:
AITHUSA collapses on the cave floor with a strangled cry: she’s

dead. ACCOLON wipes the Dragon’s blood from the sword.
MORDRED watches the lifeless dragon for a beat, pitying. Then he

and ACCOLON exit the cave, bearing their sword and torch with them.
The cave goes dark.
CUT TO:
[12] GALAHAD enters.
GALAHAD
Mum, I heard you came by here to –
He freezes. Takes in the state of the room. The mess. Their

belongings are in shambles. And MORGANA, who is startled to see
him, stands in the midst of the disaster.
And then there’s MORGAUSE.
GALAHAD
W-What happened here?
In all her rage, GALAHAD had completely slipped MORGANA’s mind.
MORGANA
(surprised)
Galahad... Uh, Morgause, this... this
is my son.
MORGAUSE stares; GALAHAD glares back. Something isn’t right here.
MORGANA
He will be coming with us, of course.
When should we leave, sister?
MORGAUSE
I did not know you had a son...

Sister? When shall we go? I want to
resume our work as soon as possible.
GALAHAD
Where are we going?
MORGANA puts on a sweet smile and bends to GALAHAD's height.
MORGANA
Gally, this is your aunt, Morgause.
She’s going to let us come live in a
castle. Isn’t that nice?
GALAHAD
(steps back in fear and confusion)
No. I don’t want to go.
MORGANA
(smile vanishing - stern)
Galahad, you behave. I said we’re
going, so we’re going.
GALAHAD
We can’t.
(low)
Mum, I don’t trust her. If she says
she's your sister -- well, what if
she's that woman from your head?
MORGANA
No, Morgause would never hurt us. I
promise, I will explain everything...
GALAHAD
(urgent, desperate)
Please. I have a bad feeling about
this. Don’t listen to her. I don't
think she means well. She’s using
you. I just know it.
MORGANA
Enough, Gally! Don’t speak of things
you don’t understand.
GALAHAD
I’m trying to protect you, Mum. Don’t
go.
MORGAUSE
Morgana...

Leave her alone.
MORGANA tries to touch GALAHAD; he steps back.
MORGANA
(frustrated, torn)
Gally, you don’t understand! I have
to do this! I have to take back
what’s rightfully mine! I have to
make them pay for what they've done
to me!
MORGAUSE casts an impatient glance at the window.
MORGAUSE
Sister, we are wasting time.
GALAHAD
You can’t listen to her, Mum!
MORGAUSE
We must go, Morgana.
GALAHAD
If we go, I’ll-I'll run away!
MORGANA
(hurt)
Why would you say something like
that?
GALAHAD
I can’t let you do this. I won't!
MORGAUSE
Morgana, we cannot delay.
MORGANA is torn between her thirst for revenge and her love for her
son. GALAHAD stares at her with those earnest eyes.
MORGAUSE
Morgana?
GALAHAD
Mum, please. This isn’t you.
MORGANA
I just want what’s best for you.

(pleading)
Then, stop.
The choice is breaking her heart.
MORGAUSE
Morgana, we can linger here no
longer. Are you ready?
So hungry for revenge, MORGANA is silent for a long beat. She can’t
believe herself when she speaks again...
MORGANA
I... I...
(It kills her to say it)
I can’t go.
MORGAUSE is startled by her response.
MORGANA
I can’t go with you. At least not
now.
MORGAUSE
But, sister! Think of all that
they've done to you. Think of Emrys
running you through without
hesitation. How can you tell me you
do not yearn for justice?
MORGANA
I never said I didn't. But it... It
will have to wait. At least for a
little while. Galahad is too young
for a life filled with war.
The decision is made. MORGAUSE's face hardens.
MORGAUSE
I am sorry you feel that way, sister.
Forgive me.
MORGAUSE touches her hand to MORGANA’s face, eyes flashing gold.

MORGANA’s eyes roll shut as she falls to the floor, unconscious.
GALAHAD
(horrified)
No! Don’t hurt her!

MORGAUSE’s head snaps to GALAHAD.
With magic, GALAHAD blasts MORGAUSE across the room. She SLAMS
against the wall, hard, and slides to the floor. She gasps.
Recovers. She stares at GALAHAD, stunned.
GALAHAD stares back, scared but determined.
MORGAUSE rises, furious. She advances on GALAHAD. Scared, GALAHAD

falters back a step.
MORGAUSE
I have come too far to lose my sister
to a child’s whining.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (ELAINE’S CHAMBERS) – CONTINUOUS.
ELAINE has been watching everything between Morgause, Morgana, and

Galahad play out from her crystal table. She raises her head, a
thoughtful frown on her face. The wheels in her head turn.
Yes, this could be her golden opportunity...
CUT TO:
INT. MORGANA’S FLAT (LIVING ROOM) – DAY 1.
[13] MORGANA stirs. Her eyes flutter open. What happened? Spilt
boxes... Broken shards of porcelain and glass... She's in her
living room, lying on the floor. She raises her head.
MORGANA
Galahad? Morgause?
No one answers. Just silence. MORGANA hurtles upright, panicked.

Her son is gone.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON CITY (FLAT BUILDING / STREET) – CONTINUOUS.
ELYAN and PERCIVAL stand on the street corner passing out candles.
MORGANA tears out of the flat and barrels toward the first knight
she sees: ELYAN.
MORGANA
(frantic)
Have you seen Morgause? Where is
Morgause?

ELYAN backs away in terror from the woman who tortured and murdered
him and most of his friends.
ELYAN
Uh, Sire! Morgana remembers!
CUT TO:
Hearing the commotion and ELYAN’s exclamation, MERLIN’s head shoots

to attention. Oh, damn.
CUT TO:
ELYAN and PERCIVAL draw their swords on MORGANA.
ELYAN
Back! You get back!
MORGANA
Just tell me where Morgause is!
PERCIVAL
We could use some backup!
MERLIN
Morgana!
She knows that voice. Ah, it's that traitor who ran her through.
MORGANA doesn’t even look over: she raises a hand and FLINGS MERLIN
through the air. He slides across the pavement and rolls onto his
back, staring at the sky.
MERLIN
(groaning)
Yup, she’s back.
The rest of the KNIGHTS - GWAINE, LEON, and LANCELOT – appear from
all directions and flock around MORGANA, weapons drawn.
From the streets, CIVILIANS gape at the spectacle.
MORGANA
Where is Morgause? Where is she?!
Tell me now or I will kill you all
where you stand!

Everywhere MORGANA turns, she would run straight into a sword. She
looks to the KNIGHTS, but none offer any help.
LANCELOT
It will take an enchanted weapon to
end her life.
GWAINE
If we all stick her at once, maybe
the rule will bend.
MERLIN jumps to his feet and dives into the ring of KNIGHTS,
shielding MORGANA as best he can.
MORGANA
(to Merlin – low, venomous)
I don’t need your help.
MERLIN
Hey! Get back, all of you! First one
to move has to face me!
GWAINE
If you insist!
GWAINE lunges forward to strike MORGANA. MERLIN raises his hand to

fire a stunning spell at GWAINE...
ARTHUR’s fist appears out of nowhere and meets GWAINE’s jaw,

knocking him to the ground. ARTHUR pushes past the KNIGHTS and
helps MERLIN block MORGANA.
MORGANA
Has anyone seen Morgause?!
ARTHUR
(to knights)
Get away from her! Sheathe your
swords! Now!
Though disinclined, the KNIGHTS start to obey, GWAINE being the

most reluctant as PERCIVAL helps him up.
Then GWEN breaks into the circle and steps in front of ARTHUR.
GWEN
(to knights)
Lower your weapons, but by all means,
keep them at the ready!
ARTHUR
(low)
Stay out of this, Guinevere.

GWEN
I am queen, Arthur. I have authority
in my own right.
With GWEN’s new command, the KNIGHTS are now conflicted.
LANCELOT is the first to draw his sword again, followed by ALL but
LEON. LEON, always loyal to his king, keeps his sword sheathed, and
instead places a hand on the hilt. ARTHUR nods to acknowledge him.
Dramatic CAMERA SHOT from above shows MERLIN, ARTHUR, MORGANA, and
GWEN in the center of a ring of vengeful KNIGHTS.
MORGANA
Would someone just tell me where
Morgause is?! She took Galahad!
MERLIN grabs MORGANA by the shoulders and forces her to face him.
MERLIN
Morgana. Calm down. Why would
Morgause take Galahad?
MORGANA roughly shoves him back.
MORGANA
Don’t you dare touch me! It doesn’t
matter why she’s taken him! I need to
find her!
LEON
If what you say is true, then
Morgause has likely gone to
Crystállum Castle.
ALL look to LEON.
LEON
That is where Mordred and his
followers devise their plans.
ARTHUR
Do you know where it is?
LEON
(nod)
I can lead you to it.
ARTHUR
Then we have no time to lose.

MORGANA attempts to shove past PERCIVAL. He doesn’t allow it. She

raises her hands to blast him.
MORGANA
Ic þé –
MERLIN cuts her off when he snatches her wrists.
MORGANA
Let go –!
He tries to tug her from the ring of KNIGHTS. She wrenches her hand
from his grasp and squeezes between ELYAN and GWAINE, the latter of
whom meets her with a menacing glare. MERLIN and ARTHUR follow her.
The three of them, plus LEON, make for the HORSES. As MORGANA,
MERLIN, and LEON mount, GWEN stops ARTHUR.
GWEN
Arthur, are you mad? You would
jeopardize your life for a woman who
would see you dead? You have
countless people depending on you! Do
you forget what devastation followed
when you saved young Mordred? Galahad
is hardly different. I cannot risk
losing you again, Arthur. Better to
let one person die for the good of
the kingdom than to risk the lives of
everyone else.
ARTHUR
Guinevere, I will not let an innocent
child die. And no matter what Morgana
has done, I will not abandon her.
GWEN
Arthur...
ARTHUR mounts his HORSE. He, MERLIN, MORGANA, and LEON kick off at
full speed, with LEON in the lead and MORGANA right behind.
GWEN and the KNIGHTS watch them go. Has ARTHUR lost his mind?

INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (ELAINE’S CHAMBERS) – DAY 1.
ELAINE rises from her crystal table and strides for the door with a
smug smile on her face. Finally everything is going according to
plan. Oh, how she will relish these next moments.

[14] MERLIN, ARTHUR, MORGANA and LEON ride like mad through the
city for Crystállum Castle. Crashed CARS litter their path. They
have difficulty weaving through the wreckage, but they cannot be
deterred.
CUT TO:
EXT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (GATES) – DAY 1.
MORGANA takes the lead at full gallop as they charge through the
gates of the castle, which are already open – MORGANA is expected —
and past the ENEMY GUARDS, who watch but do nothing to hinder them.
Now beyond the gates, MORGANA slides off her horse before it has
stopped. The others are not far behind.
Two ENEMY GUARDS pull back the massive front doors. ARTHUR, LEON,
MERLIN, and MORGANA, the two kings and the two sorcerers, climb the
steps of Crystállum Castle together.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (LIBRARY) – CONTINUOUS.
The four burst through the doors, ARTHUR and LEON baring their
swords. Massive room. Luxurious. Warm colors. Paintings on the
ceiling. Rows and rows of bookcases. Breathtaking.
MORGAUSE lounges on a divan with an open book in her grasp. She

looks up, nonchalant.
MORGAUSE
I see you have brought company.
MORGANA elbows past them and forces her way to the front.
MORGANA
Morgause, where is Galahad?
MORGAUSE closes her book and rises, coming to MORGANA.
MORGAUSE
I know it was cruel of me to take him
from you, but I had no other choice.
I have faith that you will come to
see the error of your decision.
She tries to touch MORGANA’s face. MORGANA swats her away.

MORGANA
Morgause. Where. Is. My son?

ELAINE (O.C.)
Don’t fret, sister. He is right here.
Lady ELAINE steps out from behind a bookcase, pulling GALAHAD with
her by his shoulders.
MERLIN’s eyes widen in horror. No, not her. Not that bloodthirsty
murderess. He dealt with her centuries ago! She shouldn’t be here.
MERLIN
(stunned)
Elaine.
ELAINE
(mock bow of her head)
Teacher.
As MORGANA starts to run toward GALAHAD, ELAINE unsheathes a DAGGER
and holds it to the boy’s throat.
MORGANA
(terrified)
No, Galahad —!
ELAINE
(cutting her off)
Back! Back up!
MORGANA and the others stop dead in their tracks.
MORGANA
No, please!
MORGAUSE watches ELAINE in confusion.
MORGAUSE
Elaine, what are you doing?
ELAINE
Do not ask questions! I shall make
this quick. Emrys, you know what it
is I want.
ARTHUR
(to Merlin - incredulous)
You know her?
MERLIN
I trained her.

MORGANA reaches her hand out to calm GALAHAD, who stares at her,
scared and helpless.
MORGANA
It’s all right, Gally. We’re going to
get you out of here...
GALAHAD
(shaking, trying to be brave)
I’m all right, Mum.
MERLIN
There is no way of breaking my spell,
Elaine. Someone as powerful as you
once were should know that.
ELAINE
Oh, don’t try me like this. You know
full well that every spell that
“cannot be broken” can always be
undone by the one who cast it.
While ELAINE speaks, LEON catches ARTHUR’s attention. They silently

agree to approach ELAINE from the side while she is distracted.
ELAINE
Fifteen hundred years I have waited
for this opportunity. I’m done with
borrowing the bare minimum of magic
from Morgause. My patience is at an
end...
Noticing ARTHUR and LEON as they attempt to come forward, ELAINE

holds the knife closer to GALAHAD’s throat in warning.
ELAINE
(livid)
Get! Back!
ARTHUR and LEON are forced to stop.
MORGANA
Gally!
ARTHUR
Don’t hurt him!
MORGANA raises her hands to fire a spell at ELAINE.
ELAINE
Do you think it wise to try me,
sister?

MORGANA wavers until she lowers her hands.
MORGAUSE
(baffled)
Elaine, what are you doing? I only
intended to lure Morgana here.
ELAINE
(shouting over Morgause)
Emrys! My magic! Or he dies!
MORGANA
(desperate)
Merlin, just give it to her!
MERLIN’s eyes switch from MORGANA to GALAHAD, then to ELAINE. How

can he give such power to those who want ARTHUR dead more than
anything? Yet, how can he let a little boy die?
He can’t. He has no alternative but to brave the aftermath and

incant the REVERSAL SPELL.
MERLIN
Be thē hālig eafoð, iċ frēon ēower
seiðr. Iċ brecan thē cræft.
ELAINE closes her eyes. MERLIN’s spell forces her mouth open: out
of her mouth comes the GOLD GLOBE of her magic, still bound with
MERLIN's SILVER CHAIN. It hovers above her head.
MERLIN’s incantation retracts his SILVER CHAIN: it dissolves into

MIST and is absorbed back into his hands.
The GOLD GLOBE above ELAINE also dissolves into MIST and rains down
over her in little sparkles as it absorbs back into her. When
ELAINE opens her eyes, they flash with a vibrant gold. Her magic is
free for use.
ELAINE exhales and brings one hand up to study it as she basks in
the long-awaited moment. She shoves GALAHAD forward. She has no
further use for him. MORGANA runs to GALAHAD and pulls him back.
[15] ELAINE’s eyes lock onto her enemies. MERLIN, ARTHUR, LEON,
MORGANA, and GALAHAD back away for the door. They spin to retreat.
The doors open. ACCOLON appears in the threshold. They screech to a

halt at the sight of him.
MORGANA
(stunned)
Accolon, what the hell...!
ACCOLON is motionless for a beat, staring at MORGANA. Well. This is
unexpected. Then he shakes it off and steps aside. MORDRED emerges

behind him, holding the sword forged in the breath of the Last
Dragon.
MORGANA
Mordred...
MORDRED
Ah, Emrys. I was hoping we might run
into each other.
MORDRED's eyes lock on ARTHUR, whom MERLIN forces behind him.
MERLIN
(dark)
Stay. Back. You will not touch him,
Mordred.
MORDRED
I don’t have to.
On one side of the group are ELAINE and MORGAUSE; on the other side
are MORDRED and ACCOLON: they are trapped.
With a cry of rage, LEON charges at MORDRED. Using magic, ELAINE

wrests LEON’s sword from his grasp, suspends it in midair, and
points it at his throat.
MORGANA shields GALAHAD.
MERLIN raises a hand to fire a SPELL at MORDRED, but ACCOLON, with

a mere flip of his hand, flings MERLIN off to the side.
MORGANA incants a spell directed at ELAINE...
MORGANA
Ic þé wiþd –!
ELAINE cuts her off. Eyes flashing gold, ELAINE THROWS MORGANA into
a bookcase.
MORGAUSE
Morgana!
GALAHAD
Mum!

The towering bookcase totters. Hundreds of books rain over MORGANA.

She tries to scramble out of the way, but she is dazed from the
blow. MORGAUSE hurries to MORGANA and yanks her out of the way just
as the bookcase collides with the adjacent one. Then that bookcase
falls as well, until all of the bookcases are knocking each other
over like dominos. MORGANA is too disoriented to stand.
GALAHAD is left out in the open. Unprotected.
On the floor, MERLIN gasps from pain. He struggles to get up after

ACCOLON’s spell.
MORDRED
(composed)
It must be torturous for you, Emrys,
to realize that all your years of
waiting were for nothing.
MORDRED magically twists ARTHUR’s sword from his grasp and casts it
aside. By now MERLIN is just getting to his feet. ARTHUR glances
about and steps back; ELAINE lifts her hand to fire a spell at him.
If ARTHUR moves, ELAINE will blast him.
ELAINE
Stay where you are!
There is nothing he can do. ARTHUR faces MORDRED.
ARTHUR
Mordred, don’t do this.
MORDRED
(Ignores Arthur – soft, cold)
All hail King Arthur. Long may he
reign.
In a matter of seconds, MORDRED advances towards ARTHUR and pulls

back his sword... ELAINE watches with wicked excitement.
MERLIN is terrified. No. Not ARTHUR. Not again. MERLIN runs forward
to dive between ARTHUR and the blade...
With malicious force, MORDRED PLUNGES his sword into the person
before him.
MORGANA
(shrieking)
GALAHAD!

MORDRED withdraws his sword in absolute horror.
GALAHAD was the one who jumped between ARTHUR and MORDRED to take
the blow.
NOT MERLIN.
MERLIN is stunned.
SLOW-MOTION: Blood blossoming in his chest, GALAHAD collapses to

the floor at MORDRED’s feet.
ELAINE’s excitement transitions into fury. ACCOLON looks on with

vague pleasure. Not what he expected, but he’ll take it.
MORGANA flies across the floor and scoops GALAHAD into her arms.
He’s still alive.
MORGANA
(horrified – to Mordred)
What have you done?
MORDRED is jaw-dropped, utterly staggered at his mistake.
ARTHUR and MERLIN run to MORGANA and GALAHAD. ARTHUR applies

pressure to the boy’s wound.
ELAINE
(outraged)
Mordred, what is wrong with you?
Finish this! They are right there!
MORDRED cannot react. The world around him is spinning. It’s

closing in on him. He is overcome by what he has done. He can
barely see straight, let alone think straight. Oh, how sick he
feels...
ACCOLON
Mordred, come now. Act!

It’s clear that MORDRED is nowhere near present enough to finish

the deed. ELAINE is disgusted with him. Useless coward. But there
is nothing more to be done. By refusing to act, he has thwarted her
plans.
ELAINE releases her magical hold over the sword which she was using
to hinder LEON. It drops. LEON runs to help with GALAHAD, whom
ARTHUR lifts off the floor.
MERLIN magically flings ACCOLON and a speechless MORDRED across the

room so that they cannot interfere.
As LEON, MORGANA, and ARTHUR bear GALAHAD from the room, MERLIN
stoops to retrieve ARTHUR’s sword.
He meets ELAINE’s eyes with a challenging, menacing stare. Though

infuriated, she does not make a move toward him. Why? Why does she
just stand there? Why not stop them?
ARTHUR (O.C.)
Come on, Merlin!
With one last glance at ELAINE, MERLIN follows after the others.
CUT TO:
INT. SANCTUARY (GREAT HALL) – DAY 1.
MORGANA’s magic throws the doors open. MERLIN, LEON, MORGANA and
ARTHUR enter, ARTHUR bearing GALAHAD. SUBJECTS look up and frown at
the sight.
MERLIN
He’s losing too much blood!
LEON
There is a healing chamber for the
soldiers! This way!
They follow LEON down the great hall.
INT. SANCTUARY (HEALING CHAMBERS) – CONTINUOUS.
ARTHUR kicks open the door to the healing chambers and bears
GALAHAD inside. Rows of sickbeds, each surrounded by thin, white
curtains. MORGANA throws back the curtains to let ARTHUR reach an
empty bed. ARTHUR lays GALAHAD down.

Easy, easy...

MORGANA takes GALAHAD’s hand; it’s pale from blood loss.
MORGANA
Hey, love. You’re all right now. I’ve
got you.
GALAHAD struggles to breathe against the pain. Carefully, MERLIN

examines the wound.
ARTHUR
Is there anything you can do?
MORGANA
Of course there is! Merlin is going
to heal you right up, Gally. Aren’t
you, Merlin?
MERLIN’s examination of the wound slows. The grim look on his face
reveals just how grave the injury is. He places a hand over the
wound. Turning his attention to GALAHAD, MERLIN forces a reassuring
smile and brushes the hair away from the boy’s forehead.
MERLIN
You’re going to be fine.
GALAHAD sees the falsehood in MERLIN’s smile. He knows the truth.
MERLIN motions for ARTHUR and LEON to join him. MORGANA is left to
comfort GALAHAD while they consult in lowered voices.
LEON
(low)
How bad is he really?
MERLIN
This is no ordinary wound. That sword
was forged in a Dragon’s breath.
ARTHUR
Aithusa? You believe they found her?
MERLIN
I believe they killed her, after they
got what they needed. I can no longer
feel the bond that our souls share.
LEON
Then it will take magic to heal him?
MERLIN
It will take a miracle to heal him.
No power of mine can stop such a
blade.

The likelihood of GALAHAD’s death sinks in.
ARTHUR
No, no... There must be something you
can do.
MERLIN
(without missing a beat)
I didn’t say I wouldn’t try. I will
do everything I can.
CUT TO:
INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (MORDRED’S CHAMBERS) – DAY 1.
[17] MORDRED stares out his bedroom window, tears wet on his face.
He is pallid, ill-looking, and inconsolable. His gaze is distant.
Behind him are ELAINE, MORGAUSE, and ACCOLON.
ELAINE
The boy jumped. There was nothing you
could do. He is a casualty of war,
Mordred.
MORDRED is silent. He can’t believe what he’s done.
MORGAUSE
(to Elaine)
This would not have happened if you
hadn’t been so hasty. Poor Morgana.
Poor, poor Morgana.
(beat)
You are very quiet, Lord Accolon.
ACCOLON
(surprised - feigning grief)
Oh, it’s just... such a pity.
ELAINE
(tired sigh - to Mordred)
The Lords and Lady Laudine will
expect an explanation. Now I must
clean up the mess you’ve made.

With a last glare at MORDRED, ELAINE leaves, followed soon by

MORGAUSE.
After a beat of silence, ACCOLON saunters up behind MORDRED. He

places a comforting hand on his shoulder.
ACCOLON
I know this must be difficult for
you, Mordred, but... I owe you a
great deal. Thank you for saving me
the effort of disposing of the runt
myself.
ACCOLON pats his shoulder, smiles encouragingly, and exits, leaving

a traumatized MORDRED in his wake.
INT. SANCTUARY (HEALING CHAMBERS) – DAY 1.

MERLIN and MORGANA hold their hands over GALAHAD’s wound as ARTHUR
and LEON look on.
MERLIN/MORGANA
Ic ðe ðurhhæle ðinu licsar mid ðam
sundorcræft ðære ealdan æ. Drycræft
ðurhhæle ðina wunda ond ðe
geedstaðolie.
Both sorcerers’ eyes flash gold. When they lift their hands,
MORGANA inspects the wound. After a beat, she slowly raises her
head to look at them, her face riddled with dread: there has been
no improvement.
MERLIN
That’s the last spell I’ve got.
MORGANA
(impatient, emotional)
We’ll just keep trying, then.
GALAHAD
(weakly)
It’s okay.
They ALL look down at GALAHAD. His tear-filled eyes find ARTHUR’s.
GALAHAD
(to Arthur)
I saved your life. Now, you have to
knight me... like you promised.
ARTHUR
(emotional)
That’s right, you did save me.

(beat)
Galahad, for your incredible,
gallant, and completely unrepayable
service, I hereby dub you, Sir
Galahad...
ARTHUR touches his hand to both of GALAHAD’s shoulders in place of

a sword.
ARTHUR
(emotional)
...the greatest knight of all time.
Henceforth, all men who dare call
themselves noble will look to you as
a model for their character... and
their courage...
His voice breaks off in grief; he can’t finish. MERLIN has an
equally difficult time not breaking down. GALAHAD’s condition is
worsening. He struggles against the pain as MORGANA strokes his
forehead. GALAHAD’s eyes find hers.
GALAHAD
(weak)
Thick as thieves, right?
MORGANA gives a choking laugh.
MORGANA
Thicker.
(trying to maintain composure)
Gally, you know I would burn the
world for you.
GALAHAD
(shakes head – whisper)
Don’t.
After a beat, he heaves a shaky breath. Exhales.
MORGANA
(petrified)
Gally?
Death glazes over his eyes.
MORGANA
No... No, Gally, stay with me...
Gally...

(panicking, shaking him)

Galahad! No, no! Gally! Gally! Come
back! Galahad! Don't leave me! Oh,
please, my baby... No, not my
Gally... No...!
MORGANA weeps, hardly able to breathe between sobs. ARTHUR looks to

MERLIN for an answer. MERLIN doesn’t have one. Like ARTHUR and
LEON, he is too emotional to speak. There is nothing they can do.
MORGANA cradles GALAHAD’s lifeless body in her arms, wailing.
Her hope, her light, her guardian angel, her everything. Gone. She
has nothing left.
FADE TO:
EXT. LAKE OF AVALON – DAY 2.
Overcast. ARTHUR, MERLIN, GWEN, MORGANA, the KNIGHTS, and an

assortment of SUBJECTS from the Sanctuary stand before the Lake of
Avalon.
The boat on the water bears GALAHAD’s body. He is dressed as a

knight, chainmail and cloak, surrounded by his little toy soldiers
(minus the one with the red cross shield, which MORGANA has kept).
MORGANA stands knee-deep in water as she bends down and presses a

kiss to his forehead. She lingers with her head against his,
sobbing. Once a mighty High Priestess, feared and hated by all;
now, a lost, childless mother.
[18] When MORGANA finally backs away, LEON gently pushes the boat
off. As it drifts and shrinks in the distance, MORGANA falls onto
her knees at the shoreline and cries, her screams heartbreaking.
MERLIN watches her, moved with overwhelming pity. So many times he

has watched his loved ones ripped away from him by Death. But never
has he lost a child.
An ARCHER fires a FLAMING ARROW. It sets the boat alight. ALL watch
as they mourn the loss of the “greatest knight of all time.”
MERLIN (V.O.)
With that enchanted blade, Mordred is
more dangerous than ever before.
CUT TO:

INT. SANCTUARY (COUNCIL CHAMBERS) – DAY 2.
ARTHUR and MERLIN stand in the council chambers, a palpable

solemnity over them. As they speak, their voices are soft, reverent
of the tragedy that's just occurred.
MERLIN
What I don’t understand is why they
let us go.
ARTHUR
Perhaps it was an act of compassion,
because of... Galahad.
MERLIN
I don’t think so. It’s not in Elaine
to show compassion. She’s a judge.
She thinks herself a blind one, but I
know her. She takes pleasure in what
she does.
ARTHUR
Why don’t you bind her magic again?
MERLIN
It can only be done to the same
person once, and even then, only when
they are twisting the nature of magic
itself. The spell is considered the
ultimate punishment among sorcerers.
ARTHUR
(beat)
So what happens now?
MERLIN
I can’t say... But I believe our time
of watching and waiting has come to
an end.

MERLIN: KINGDOM COME

EXT. LONDON CITY (FLAT BUILDING / STREET) – NIGHT 1.

The WHIRRING and SPUTTERING SOUND of a HELICOPTER plummeting from

MERLIN gives a start as he receives a telepathic message.

INTERCUT WITH: EXT. / INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (MORDRED’S CHAMBERS) –

CAMERA hovers outside MORDRED’s window. He gazes out, holding a

GWEN gasps. ALL look up.

INT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE (MORDRED’S CHAMBERS) – CONTINUOUS.

MORDRED stares out his window at the sky, mystified by what he

EXT. CRYSTÁLLUM CASTLE – CONTINUOUS.

EXT. LONDON CITY (FLAT BUILDING / STREET) – NIGHT 1.

MERLIN, ARTHUR, GWEN, MORGANA, GALAHAD, and other CIVILIANS gaze

EXT. LONDON CITY (FLAT BUILDING / STREET) – NIGHT 1.

The CIVILIANS gathered on the streets stand in a stunned stupor,

MORGANA pulls GALAHAD close to her. She looks to MERLIN for an

ACCOLON contemplates this.

INT. SANCTUARY (GREAT HALL) – NIGHT 1.

LEON strides up to her.

GWEN smiles in gratitude.

EXT. LONDON CITY (STREET / FLAT BUILDING) – NIGHT 1.

MERLIN looks at him. After a beat, he gestures for ARTHUR to speak

EXT. FOREST – NIGHT 1.

Hearing him, GWEN casts a questioning glance over her shoulder as he

ELYAN and GWAINE are shocked by this revelation.

Up ahead, LEON and GWEN ride side by side.

GWEN watches him. Oh dear... She knows where this is going.

LEON takes this in. He musters a smile to hide his sorrow.

He urges his horse forward and rides on ahead.

But LEON is already out of earshot. GWEN is torn. No matter what

Turning to leave, ARTHUR heads down the street. GALAHAD follows

MERLIN and MORGANA hand out their last candle to a CIVILIAN.

MERLIN glances up as CIVILIAN #7, who stands in the street

ELAINE and MORGAUSE glimpse through the crystal table at MORGANA,

[9] Sunrise. ARTHUR kneels on the paveway among several CIVILIANS,

ARTHUR can’t resist a smirk.

Sound of approaching HORSES. GWEN and LEON have just appeared at

MERLIN grins at GWAINE and hugs him.

When LANCELOT pulls back, he meets MERLIN’s eyes with sincerity.

The company of his dear friends brings tears to MERLIN's eyes.

INT. BALINOR’S CAVE – NIGHT 1. WAL.

They stop and heed their surroundings.

MORDRED ventures farther. He holds his torch up, revealing a coiled
