PART 1
a. The setting of the place, mood/atmosphere, and time:

 In Mrs. Mallard house, especially in her room and on the first floor and at the
newspaper office.
We can know that the setting place in Mrs. Mallard house because the third
paragraph had mentioned, "When the storm of grief had spent itself she went
away to her room alone”. Then, the eighteenth paragraph mentioned, "Richards
stood waiting for them at the bottom".
 The mood or atmosphere in this story is saddening.
The atmosphere is sudden because, in the third paragraph, Mrs. Mallard is crying
on her sister's arms when her sister tells her that her husband is dead. Then, we
also can see in the seventh paragraph where Mrs. Mallard crying in her room.
Although in the ninth paragraph illustrates that Mrs. Mallard was become happy
and in the eighteenth paragraph shows Mr. Brently Mallard is still alive, which
describes happy situations. And also in the end of the story, Mrs. Mallard has
died, and Mr. Brently Mallard lost his wife.
 The time of the story is in the afternoon.
This scene can be seen in the sixth paragraph "There were patches of blue sky
showing here and there through the clouds that had met and piled one above the
other in the west facing her window”.

b. The characterization of Mrs. Mallard, Mr. Mallard, and Josephine:

 Mrs. Mallard is tritagonist. She’s tritagonist because, from the story that I have
read, Mrs. Mallard loves Mr. Brently Mallard, which means she is a good person.
Even though she can also be wicked because her husband's death makes her feel
free and happy, where people who lost their loved ones feel deep sadness. Mrs.
Mallard is an independent woman, where the most independent women are
characterized as being able to stand on their own and not depend on a man.
 Mr. Brently Mallard is the protagonist.
He is the protagonist because the Mr. Brently Mallard is the type of person who
cares for his wife, but it's a shame that his attitude too controlling his wife only
makes his wife think that her husband does not love her.
 Josephine is protagonist
From the story, Josephine is someone who really loves her sister. In the story,
Josephine is apprehensive about her sister's condition if she hears the news about
her husband. She also worried about her sister condition when her sister was
crying in the room.

c. Themes of the story

The theme of the story is freedom. I think this story wants to tell us about a wife's heart
where their nature is required to always obey her husband's orders without being given
the opportunity to vote. This is also described in the story where Mrs. Mallard is always
at home and feels intense inner pressure.
d. The values of the story (2 moral values)
 We should not rejoice over the suffering of others because when we rejoice over
the suffering of others, it will bring disaster to ourselves.
 Marry the right person. Because getting married is not only about love but also
accepting the good and the bad of our partner so we will not regret it later.

PART 2
1. In my opinion, this story is excellent because of the moral message that teaches to respect
each other, do good, do not be in a hurry in getting married and pursue all the things we
want to achieve so that we don't regret it in the future. This story is also helpful in
improving students' analysis skills about the story and improve their vocabulary skills.

2. I think the story can be used as teaching material, and the story is suitable to be taught in
junior and senior high school. After I read the story, this story is excellent to improve
their vocabulary and analysis skills. Why? There are so many moral messages hidden in
stories and vocabulary in sentences that they rarely find, which will help them understand
English better.

3. The meaning of broken sentence here is that say something indirectly or not to the point
but using other sentences/direction that lead to the sentence or the actual meaning.

4. It is a sad ending. The sentence was trying to tell us that Mrs. Mallard died because of her
happiness, which is finally disappointed by the reality that happened.

5. Mrs. Mallard is the wife of Mr. Brentley Mallard. One day, Mrs. Mallard gets news from
her sister that her husband Mr. Brently Mallard has been in a train accident and has died.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Mallardwas not sad but happy at the death of her husband. She felt
she could do anything after her husband died. But it turns out that Mr. Brentley Mallard is
still alive and making Mrs. Darwell have a heart attack from shock. In the end, Mrs.
Darwell died in a very ironic way due to his actions and thoughts.
