Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

Students will learn how to identify different meanings and identifications of a sentence.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

Students will discuss different things that they can identify in a sentence. Students will
take notes on our discussion and may copy them off of our white board.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

Students will come to the back table where some will start on the english morning
warm up with me. These select students will receive a strip of paper in which there is
a sentence on it. The sentence sometimes contains mistakes or may be a run on
sentence. Students will glue in the strip of paper to their notebooks as we discuss the
sentence. Students may comment what they notice about the sentence such as type
of sentence, different types of words or phrases, punctuation, and how it could be
restated. They will then share with the class different ideas we discussed and I will
write down their notes on a white board as they may copy them down into their
notebook.
CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed
during the teaching of this lesson plan.)

We will be using the english literacy standard of: engaging in group and
individual reading and research activities centered
on more complex texts with new vocabulary

Instructional Procedures

● Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your
teaching.)

Select students will bring their binder and pencils to the back table, and grab a
chair to sit down as they enter the classroom.

● Instructional Strategies (Describe each of the instructional methods you will

employ during the lesson.)

I will give verbal directions of what we will be doing. Then instruct with an
example of the notes on the white board after giving an example of something
that I noticed in the sentence.

● Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to
participate?)

Since I typically work with a small group at the back table who usually are
interested in me helping them I dont usually have to worry about participation
but I will make sure each student distributes their thoughts into the
conversation and writes down what we discuss before they clean up.

● Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged
in the lesson?

Throughout the discussion I will ask the students for their input on the sentence
and what they want to answer with and remind them to get each of the notes
down in order to get credit.

● Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

The lesson ends with the kids doing a teacher/ student responsive
song/chant and students clean up their work space and get ready for the
next lesson.

● Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or
learning targets?)

Students will have achieved the lesson goals when each of the students have
participated in the discussion and each student has written down all of the
notes.
