Students will use information provided to complete a graph and answer mathematical questions.
through counting, addition, and subtracting.
Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)
CSTP Rationale (Describe the ways your lesson aligns with the six California Standards for the Teaching
Profession)
CSTP 4 Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students:
Clearly stating the expectations to students and will use different strategies to help the students better
understand.
Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)
The lesson will start with a reading from the Hanukkah centered book “Hooray for Hanukkah!”, which
will be read by me. I will answer any questions they may have throughout or after the book and ask
them questions myself. Shortly after the reading the kids will go out to recess, when they come back, I
will have a Hanukkah themed math worksheet on every desk ready for them. Once they have settled in
after recess, I will guide them through the math worksheet. I will read them the instructions, help them
out with the first two questions so they get the hang of it. While they finish the worksheet, I will walk
around and observe their progress in case any of them needs help. After a few minutes I will ask them
the questions out loud and ask them to raise their hands to tell me the answers. Once we have
completed the worksheet, I will collect them and ask if they have any questions.
Instructional Procedures
• Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)
Will use a call back they use in class, the teacher says “Class class class” and the students
respond with “yes yes yes”.
• Instructional Strategies (Click into that link for help describing all instructional methods you will employ
during the lesson. Remember, instructional strategies fall into one or more of the following broad
categories: DIRECT, INDIRECT, EXPERIENTIAL, INTERACTIVE, INDEPENDENT STUDY)
Direct learning will be used when I give them the instructions for the lesson. Indirect learning
will be seen when I give students time to work on the worksheet. Interactive learning will be
seen through problem solving and when I read to the students. Independent learning will be
seen when I assign the students the questions and have them independently work on questions.
• Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)
Give them opportunities to guide the lesson by asking them what parts of the worksheet we
should attack first (“which should we count first?).
• Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?
I will circle around and observe the class while they are working, offering help if needed.
• Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)
The final question I will ask what their favorite thing they learned was.
• Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)
After the lesson, I will ask them to give me a thumbs up, side, or down to see their assessment.
This way they will self-assess, and we will see how confident they are in the subject.
