01 Prelude

02 - Medicine

If I had a medicine root of the earth

that when pressed to the heart removed all of the hurt
and filled all the holes with compassion and light
kept you warm, kept you safe in the cool of the night

would you take it from me, would you throw it away

would you call a museum, have it put on display
would you turn something sacred into something profane
would you try to turn a profit, would you use it for fame?

Ooo, tell me what would you say

should the dream come-

If I had an herb that when placed on the tongue

released all of the Truth, all the songs yet unsung
released all of the darkness that’s bottled inside
broke down all of the walls round the love we all hide

would you take it from me, would your eyes open wide
would you finally release ancient tears yet uncried
would you hold the small leaf in the palm of your hand
would you dance, would you sing, spread the word through the land?

Ooo, tell me what would you say

should the dream come your way
are you prepared to allow, are you prepared to receive
the world that we wear is the world we all weave

If I had a map and the map showed the way

to a land full of light full of passion and play
to a world full of colors and bubbles and kites
there’s food on the table, there’s dance in the night
and the man in the corner tells a story and laughs
he says the trick to the future is forgiving the past
a golden elixir from a medicine man
that applied to the eyes brought a light to the land

Ooo, tell me what would you say

should the dream come your way
are you prepared to allow, are you prepared to believe
the world that we wear is the world we all weave

03- A Warm and Beautiful Machine

I woke up this morning, then I woke up some more

and I woke up a third time, real awake, I was sure,
but I woke up again just like from a dream
and what I woke into was a warm and beautiful machine
with a star made of love and a moon made of light
a spiraling spirit spins through the timeless, endless night
and everything has a voice and it's all singing with delight
I say to myself, “Self?
“Yeah... this is alright”

I was soaking up starlight, and the edges to glow

love fell like snowfall, and there was some kind of flow
and whatever it was, well, it thought it was me
though I may have my doubts, what am I to disagree
with a star made of love and a moon made of light
the spiraling spirit spins through the timeless, endless night
everything has a voice and it's all singing with delight
I say to myself, “Self?
Yeah... this is alright”

then thunder spoke to me, and the sunsets were mine

the trees were my fingers, and the ocean, well, that was my wine
I could listen to silence and know just what it said
and the Devas would guard me as I crawled into bed
under a star made of love and a moon made of light
a spiraling spirit spins through the timeless, endless night
and everything has a voice and it's all singing with delight
and I said to myself: “Self?
Yeah, this is alright”

05 - Completely On My Side

I had an angel of light wash me with his/her wings

let a raging fury do some licks on my strings
but now I gotta lay it down you are my joy and my pride
cause I never had someone so completely on my side

I walked the shores of Atlantis on a quest for my kind

Seen the geometric landscapes through the amazon vine
and I gotta put it out you are my grail and my guide
I never had someone so completely on my side

Pg. 2 of 8
The Blackbird: Vol. 2: Retro

Til you were here, and the clouds all disappear

the sky's more blue, and it's all because of you
It's always spring, birds doing the bird thing
searched far and wide, til I got you on my side
so completely on my side

I close my eyes to visit all the things that are mine

I let the braided serpent do a shimmy round my spine
it'd take 100 years to list the things that I tried
but I never had someone so completely on my side

Til you were here, and the clouds all disappear

the sky's more blue, and it's all because of you
It's always spring, birds doing the bird thing
searched far and wide, til I got you on my side
so completely on my side

06 - Strawberry Kisser

Sweet Sixteen in the back of daddy's car

learnin' bout their kissin' to American Guitars
there's a bright shiny future, all aluminum and chrome
with skyscrapers reaching to the geodesic dome
Bright eyed bubble gum, your Strawberry Kisser
Love her while you can, cause you sure gonna miss her

Big brother warnin' that you gotta get her home

but your skyscraper's reachin' to the geodesic dome
Bright eyes bushy tail, what you gonna say
turn on the radio, the bugger won't play
Smells like heaven your Strawberry Kisser
Love her while you can, cause you sure gonna miss her

Strawberry Kisser
she dances like a twister
do you think she got a sister
Strawberry Kisser
Nothing a poor boy can do
if a strawberry kisser get ahold a-you

Innocence and pheromones, what you gonna do

ain't nothing more alive than that, and that there's true

Pg. 3 of 8
The Blackbird: Vol. 2: Retro

maybe she's 18, and maybe she's not

maybe what you're doin' gonna get yourself shot
ain't nothing more alive than that, and that there's true
when a Strawberry Kisser gotta hold of you

Strawberry Kisser
she dances like a twister
do you think she got a sister
Strawberry Kisser
Nothing a poor boy can do
if a strawberry kisser gets ahold a you

Something bout the cadillac is upside down, things are

up on the ceiling, should be on the ground
puttin' on the raincoat you know the thing broke
Sometimes my life is like one silly old joke
but hand on heart my friends, I won't going to miss her
that how a broken old coat made me a Strawberry Kisser

07 - The Ballad of James Church

His brother died in a cruel way, trying to lift another's curse

all these years, the blood and tears, guess couldn't be much worse
but there's another word that a few have heard, something bout the south of France
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

James stayed behind to mind the store, when his brother done left the scene
one small light in the desert night, he stood against the machine
his knees as hard as leather from taking up his battle stance
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

James was just cast down one day, his brothers off in Italy
the desert place where it all went down, there's nothing much left to see
but light shines through a cracked facade, freedom what it grants
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

The king he sits upon his throne, a fear he has to give

that the words which built the kingdom may somehow truly live
and live not like a metaphor, but like a Templar with his lance
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

James Church may stand up one day, and look you in the eye

Pg. 4 of 8
The Blackbird: Vol. 2: Retro

and if he does, I tell you true, you wonder if to cry or if to

smash the stones and crush the rock upon which the joker rants
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

you've heard about of the seventh son born on the seventh day
but beware the 13th brother, the one who leads astray
cause once you hear the magic spell, you need a witch to break the trance
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

I dreamed I had a dream you see, a message has been saved

John he was a trickster said James from in his grave
and Thomas was the true of heart, watch Mary's silent dance
if you cross that line there's no going back
it's up to you y'all wanna take the chance

08 - The Moon Behind A Cloud

music & lyric by G. Dinunzi
Oct 15, 2014

the moon behind a cloud

how it yearns to lift that shroud
and shine it's holy light
into the hollow night

the ocean in the rain

how it swells and how it wanes
how it dances with the shore
and seems to want no more

the trees reach for the sky

it's the same with you and I
the distance that I feel
a wound that longs to heal.

09 - Love and Let Live

How could it be wrong, how could it be wrong

if you to listen to your heart, and you hear it's song
then you sing it true, and you sing it strong
how could it be wrong?

Pg. 5 of 8
The Blackbird: Vol. 2: Retro

We gotta raise our voice, we gotta shine our light

we gotta be the dawn, in the darkest of night
stand with your friends, when the song is true
cause that what you do, cause that what you do

Love and let live, Love and let live, Love and let live,
this is what we say
Live and let love, Live and let love, Live and let love,
cause that is how we pray

Cause love is the thing, if there's anything at all

gonna raise us up, stand free proud and tall
embrace ourselves Love, Light and true
it's all here for you

Love and let live, Love and let live, Love and let live,
this is what we say
Live and let love, Live and let love, Live and let love,
that is how we pray

Don't be afraid of love, not yours not mine

cause fear is the thing we must extract from our minds
free up our hearts, and expand our minds
this would be a good time

Love and let live, Love and let live, Love and let live,
this is what we say
Live and let love, Live and let love, Live and let love,
that is how we pray

Love and let live, Love and let live, Love and let live,
this is what we say
Live and let love, Live and let love, Live and let love,
that is how we pray

10 - About Angels

there once was a man who went crazy

because he tried to write a blues about angels
there once was a man who went crazy
because he tried to write a blues about angels

there once was a man, among many

on a speck of dust near a minor star
in this outer arm of the milky way

Pg. 6 of 8
The Blackbird: Vol. 2: Retro

floating in something we do not at all understand

which may or may not have a border
an edge beyond which not even ideas can travel

and within all that, there are chains upon chains upon chains upon chains of life
living near and far outside the spectrum of what we can imagine and what we can perceive
with two eyes and two ears and a tongue and a mouth and our fingers
they surround the spectrum, they saturate the spectrum
they are aware they are alive and aware and have a message for us
they are aware they are alive and aware and have a message for us
they are aware they are alive and aware and have a message for us

they say "Hey, wha'sup, yo?"

they say "Hey, wha'sup, yo? Wha' sup?"

they are happy to meet us

if we approach with respect and honor
and a deep and calm sense of self
wrapped in pregnant silence
or in nature's embrace

well, I'm not an angel

but you can call me The Blackbird
if you need to call me something

on the seven hour

of the seventh day
on the seventh planet
the seventh angel say

there once was a man who went crazy

because he tried to write a blues about angels
there once was a man who went crazy
because he tried to write a blues about angels

and he saw it was good

Moonset
music & lyric by G. Dinunzi

The times the curtains blown away

I catch a glimpse behind the day
the eyes which find me there
look on and seem aware

12 - This Woman, This Time and This Space

to Anna, Christmas Berlin 2011

There are some things you will always miss

no matter time gone by
the sound of a laugh, the touch of a hand
your childhood's September sky

a fine feather floating on a gentle breeze

a silent ballet of grace
the sunlight breaks in, hey, how lucky am I
to share with this woman this time and this space

there are some things I will always love

no matter the cruelties of time
the smell of her hair, the mystery of song
the white magic hidden in rhyme

if you try to hold on it will slip through your hands

like a cloud or a ghost without trace
the moonlight breaks in, hey, how lucky am I
to share with this woman this time and this space

would an angel begrudge the burden it bears

should it cause it to crash in the sea
here on the ground we long for the sky
my earthbound angel and me

the sound of her breathing as I lie awake

the sleepy smile as I kiss her face
belonging breaks in, Hey, how lucky am I
to share with this woman this time and this space

there are some things I will always love
