India

Hello everyone, today we’re going to talk about India

India is a Country in South Asia, is the seventh largest country in geographical area
and the second country with the largest population, about 1.55 billion habitants.
The history of India starts right in the beginning of civilization, being one of the oldest
nations in the world, and because of that is a country full of diversity.
India was a country full of migrating people especially Europeans, they would go to
India to trade their country’s goods in return for Indian spices. The first to reach India
were the Portuguese in the 16th century, with Vasco da Gama. After the Portuguese
came, the Dutch, French, and British. Even though many would go to India to trade,
many others would go there to invade and loot entire cities. The British Empire was
the main invader, and for many years, India was a territory colonized by England.
• Language diversity in India
In India there are 121 different mother-tongues, in which fourteen of these
have 10 million speakers or more.
India doesn't recognise a single national language as its official one, so Hindi
is used as the language of the government, but as the country has been
subjected to a strong British presence, English is also a language spoken
there. Locals often call it the "business language".
So, now we’ll show you some differences between the original English and the
Indian English, as they call it “Hinglish”
In traditional English we learn that the right is “pay attention to”. The correct
preposition is “to”. However, in Indian English the right thing is “pay attention on”.
The words 'but' and 'only' are used to emphasize what was said. “I was just joking
but” or “I didn’t go only”.
They also mix the Hindu or the local dialects with English: “the taxi-wala” [the
taxi driver], “the music-wala” [the music collector], and many others.
Religion
The predominant religion is Hinduism, but India is notable for its religious
diversity, being Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and Jainism popular religions of
the country.
The world's largest religious festival, Kumbh Mela, takes place in the Indian
city of Sangam and gathers about 100 million people.
