SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS (041) MAX. MARKS : 40

CLASS : XII DURATION: 2 HRS
General Instructions:
1. This question paper contains three sections - A, B and C. Each part is compulsory.
2. Section - A has 6 short answer type (SA1) questions of 2 marks each.
3. Section - B has 4 short answer type (SA2) questions of 3 marks each.
4. Section - C has 4 long answer type questions (LA) of 4 marks each.
5. There is an internal choice in some of the questions.
6. Q14 is a case-based problem having 2 sub parts of 2 marks each.

3. There are two bags A and B. Bag A contains 3 white and 4 red balls whereas bag B contains 4
white and 3 red balls. Three balls are drawn at random (without replacement) from one of the
bags and are found to be two white and one red. Find the probability that these were drawn from
bag B.

4. Find the area of parallelogram whose adjacent sides are represented by the vectors a  2i  j  k

and b  3i  j .

5. An urn contains 10 black and 5 white balls. Two balls are drawn from the urn one after the other
without replacement, then find the probability that both drawn balls are black.

6. Find the direction cosines of the line passing through A(2, 3, –1) and B(–3, –4, 2).

CASE STUDY QUESTIONS

14. Final exams are approaching, so Mr. Kumar decided to check the preparation of the few weak
students in the class. He chooses four students A, B, C and D then a problem in mathematics is
given to those four students A, B, C, D. Their chances of solving the problem, respectively, are
1 1 1 2
, , and .
3 4 5 3

Based on the given information answer the following questions. What is the probability that:
(i) the problem will be solved?
(ii) at most one of them solve the problem?
