You have learned the importance of creating a good branding strategy. A brand is essentially a
representation of a company’s values, purpose, aesthetic, passion, and place in the world. It is how you
establish an image of your company in your customers’ eyes.

So before you create your branding, you must reiterate and reconfirm your venture’s values, purpose,

and the reason for existence. This activity will help you do just this.

Instructions
 Regroup into your practice venture teams.
 Look at Simon Sinek’s Golden Circle given on Page 2.
 Keeping your venture in mind, each of you will take three post-its and write down the answer to each
question on the Golden Circle as per your understanding.
 When filling up the post-its:
o Start with the Why: Don’t start with what your product or service does. Try and articulate what
your company believes in. Remember, “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you
do it and what you do simply proves what you believe in.” While your “what” and
“how” might change with the product, your “why” is usually constant and the reason
behind your existence.
o Then move on to How: This will cover the way you deliver your product or service.
o Finally, fill up the What: Here, you will articulate what your product or service does.
 Now get all your “Why” post-its together. Discuss and shortlist the one that you all agree with. You
may combine two or more post-it answers to create a new answer that best defines your purpose.
 Repeat the process for your “how” and “what” post-its.
 Stick the final post-its on to the Golden Circle as relevant.
 You have 50 minutes to complete this activity. Divide your time as follows:
o Use the first 25 minutes to fill up the post-its individually for your venture
o Use the next 25 minutes to discuss each post-it answer and come up with an answer that all
team members agree with
 Reach out to your facilitator if you have any questions.
