What are your thoughts on the issue of media biases in the context of
freedom of speech?

First of, in journalism and media there should not be any form of
biases. Freedom of speech in media is not about saying what the journalists
wants to stay, but it should be freedom in a sense that they could report what
are the facts and what is really happening. In addition, this is fundamental to
democracy, and media serve as custodians of that freedom. Today, media
outlets are known to report news in a biased way, potentially affecting the
beliefs of news consumers and altering their behaviors. Needless to say,
freedom of speech and freedom of the press is in danger when the facts are
suppressed and this should not be practiced in any ways.

1. What are the implications of western media’s focus on linking terrorism and
Muslims?

To describe the criminals’ activities of terrorists, the adjective 'Islamic'

is being heavily used by journalists. The implication in this topic is that the
western media projects Islam as inimical or they tend to obstruct or give harm
to those who have civilized values. Similarly. the most dangerous myth is that
Islam condones terrorism. Another myth is that in Islamic teachings, men are
allowed to terrorize women. This view of a strong association between
Islam/Muslim and terrorism, no doubt has been fueled by the media outlets.
So today, after the demise of communists states, when Islam is being seen as
a security threat to the west, the media in the Muslim world needs to devise or
to come up with some ways and means to reduce the dependency on western
news sources.
