Volleyball comp/cont outline

Say that I’m going to build a comp/cont essay that looks at 2 of the central players on the volleyball
court. I would probably use point by point as block might feel like 2 separate essays.

Thesis:

Two of the most important positions on the volleyball court are the setter and the libero; these two
players can be compared in terms of what happens after the first hit in a game, but clearly contrast in
their overall position goals, game play, and court position.

Paragraph 1: The team setter has very specific position goals. Paragraph here. These position goals
define the role of the setter

Paragraph 2:The libero also have very specific position goals, some which overlap the setter’s. Paragraph
here. These position goals define the role of the libero.

Paragraph 3: Game play for the setter requires a great deal of focus, concentration, and agility.
Paragraph here: focus, concentration, agility. The game play for the setter requires a number of skills all
working in concert

Paragraph 4: The libero has different skills required for game play, including agility and spontaneity.
Paragraph here: agility and spontaneity. These skills of fast moving and thinking are required for a libero
to successfully play.

Paragraph 5: Probably most important, the setter’s position on the court has to be consistent. Paragraph
here. The consistency of positioning on the court is one of the hallmarks of the setter’s role.

Paragraph 6: The libero’s position might shift around in the back row, but still has real consistency.
Paragraph here. The libero’s position on the court is significant for this player’s success.

Essay outline:

2nd hit: setter

2nd hit: libero

Contrast

Position goals: setter

Position goals: libero

Game play: setter

Game play: libero

Court position: setter

Court position: libero

If I need more room to develop, say, the court position for setter section, and this then runs into 2
paragraphs, I need to develop 2 paragraphs on court position for the libero sections. All points need to
be developed so that they are parallel and equal in my treatment.
