Importance of Immunization on Children’s Health Protection

According to the report, the process whereby a person is made immune

or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a
vaccine is called immunization (World Health Organization [WHO], 2020).
In the Philippines, the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) was
established in 1976 to ensure that infants/children and mothers have
access to routinely recommended infant/childhood vaccines (Department of
Health [DOH], 2020).

Here is a table of immunizations a baby should have:

Kinds of Immunization Age of Immunization
BCG (Anti-TB) 0-1-month-old and 7 years old
0-½ month, 2 ½ months, 32
OPV (Anti-polio Vaccine)
months
DPT (Anti-diphtheria, Pertussis, 1 ½ months, 2 ½ months, 32
and Tetanus months
1 ½ months, 2 ½ months, 32
Hepa B Vaccine
months
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) 9 months to 1 year

Immunization is beneficial and effective in the prevention of disease,

death and disability from vaccine-preventable diseases. Worldwide, more
than 2.5 million childhood deaths are prevented by immunization each year
(The Open University, 2020).
Vaccines not only save lives; they help children learn and grow, they
mean more days in school, they avert many unbearable risks from
childhood diseases, and they reduce healthcare costs, protecting families
and communities from sliding into poverty (WHO, 2020).
Vaccinations not only protect your child from deadly diseases, such as
polio, tetanus, and diphtheria, but they also keep other children safe by
eliminating or greatly decreasing dangerous diseases that used to spread
from child to child (Stanford Children’s Health, 2020).
