STARTING THE IMPORT

The very first aspect of analyzing data in Analyst’s
Notebook is to know what questions you need
answered from the data and how Analyst’s
Notebook can answer those questions.

Cell tower Toll analysis in Analyst’s Notebook can be

broken down into two categories; Call analysis and
Call Location analysis. Call Analysis is merely Toll
analysis with icons (telephones) and links (Calls),
however, because links cannot be plotted, Call
Location Analysis must be represented by an event
(Entity) with location data to be plotted.

THE IMPORT PROCESS

The steps at the top of the window will guide you
through the import sequence. The Next button will
take you through the process.

The information bar below the steps provides

additional guidance for each step. Note: If a
mandatory step is not address, the Next button will
not be enabled.

DATA MANIPULATION
Data can be manipulated on the original data sheet
or during the importing process.

To assign available actions to any column, simply

select the column, move the desired action to the
Actions Applied window and select the applicable
condition/s.

ASSIGNING COLUMNS
The first picture emphasizes the import structure for
call analysis. To assign column information to the
desired field, simply select the column header with
the left mouse button and drag it into the desired
field.

The second one emphasizes the import structure for

call location analysis.

Multiple column values can be assigned to the same

field by depressing and holding down the SHIFT key
before adding subsequent columns. Columns may be
assigned to multiple fields.

Any columns not used in the import are simply not

assigned to any field.

Data can be stored in either Cards or Attributes. In

either case simply select the appropriate tab and
assign columns with the same drag and drop method.

COMPLETING THE IMPORT

The Import Details step will allow you to create a
cover sheet, pre-select a chart layout, and filter out
results based on link occurrences, if desired. (Link
occurrences is only applicable in Single or Directed
Multiplicity).
Once Import is selected, a message window will
appear listing the statistics of the import.

AFTER THE IMPORT

Multiple rules can be applied to the results of your import, such as, changing the Entity Type,
making Attributes not visible on the chart, adding or deleting information, etc.

It is important to remember that any changes made to the chart will not change the import
specification. It is highly recommended that you always save the import specification when
prompted to do so.
