How to create a Google earth file with the locations of

NodeB’s and his sectors

1. Create a excel sheet containing the following information in the following


sequence:

Cell name - Site Name - Longtitude (dec) - Latitude(dec) - Azimith (of the
sectors)

2. Open the program MapInfo when the Quick Start window appears select “Open a
Table” and press open. Be sure that the file type is .XLS (excel file) browse for
the file created at step 1 and press open.

When the window below appears be sure to check the box and press OK.

3. When the window below appears be sure that the fields Longitude, Latitude and
Azimuth are of type float, after that press OK.
4. You should see a windows appearing in the MapInfo program containing the
columns of the created excel sheet of step 1.

5. Go to Tools and select “Run MapBasic Program”. If you cannot find this
program on your laptop, look for it on the web and put it inside the “Tools”
folder.

6. Select the “SiteSee” program and press OPEN.

7. Go to “Table” here you will see “WiFI SiteSEE” and select “Create Site
Boundaries”.

8. When the window below here appears be sure to fill in all the fields properly. See
the drawing for an example. After you have filled in everything press the OK
button. After you has pressed the OK button it will asked you where to save the
file, choose a location and press SAVE. 4 Files will be created at the selected
location.

Don’t put a big value otherwise
the sectors will overlap

the antenna

9. After you have saved the map file (.Tab) go to his location and open it. It will
open inside the MapInfo program. You should see the sites and his vectors.
Before proceeding be sure of the following:

• The window containing a drawing of the sites is not maximize nor


minimize
• The window containing the sites and drawing is the upper window
• You can see all the sites on this window. You can use the zoom out, zoom
in and the grabber option to achieve this.

If your drawing looks like the on below here than you can proceed with step 10

10. Go to Tools and select “Run MapBasic Program”. After this select the
“Mapinfo2Google” application. The program should appear at the top next to
Help.

11. Go to the just created “Mapinfo2Google” option next to Help and select “Convert
map window to KML file”. Choose a location and a name for the KML file and
press “Save”. A message window will appear telling the status of this conversion
process.
12. When the conversion process is finished go to the just saved KML file and click
on it. Google earth will open and it will automatically go to the sectors position
showing you the sites and his sectors.
