DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
ESD Caution:
Circuit boards and drives contain electronic components that are extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ordinary
amounts of static electricity from clothing or the work environment can destroy the components located on
these boards. Do not touch the components along their connector edges.
Use a Antistatic Wrist strap. Attach one end of the strap to your wrist and the other end to the chassis,
depending on what type of strap you use, with the adhesive end or the metal plug.
Use an Antistatic Mat. Place ESD-sensitive components such as motherboards, memory, and other PCBs on an
antistatic mat
DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged
components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it
into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages
during shipping.

Caution – This procedure involves handling circuit boards that are extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ensure that you
follow ESD preventative practices to avoid damaging the circuit boards.
PCIe Card Configuration Reference: Use the following table to plan your PCIe/XAUI card configuration on SPARC T4-1
server:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E22985_01/html/E22986/z40019011307802.html#scrolltoc
Note – If the riser has cards installed in both slots, disconnect all cables connected to both cards.
Tip – Label the cables to ensure proper connection to the replacement card.
7. With the riser placed on an antistatic surface, disengage the card from its connector and place it on an antistatic surface.
Note - The card is held in place by a retention clip, which you must rotate up before the card can be removed.
8. If you are not replacing the XFP, PCIe or XAUI card, install a filler panel in the slot.
Caution - To ensure proper system cooling and EMI shielding, you must use the appropriate PCIe filler panel for the
server.
2. Locate the proper PCIe/XAUI/XFP slot for the card you are replacing.
Note - Before inserting the card, you must rotate the retention clip out of the way.
6. Rotate the retention clip downward and press it until it is securely in place after XFP, PCIe or XAUI card is installed.
8. Connect any data cables required to the PCIe/XAUI/XFP card. Route data cables through the cable management arm.
