I. Range of Use

SL225 Swivel has a maximum static load of 250 tons, it can be used
for oil field 3000m to 4000m drilling machine (114mm spinner).

III. Structure Introduction

SL225 swivel mainly consists elevator link, shell, support,

gooseneck pipe, central pipe, joint, disk bearing and other parts.
Elevator link is connected with shell and pin of elevator link, it
makes swivel hang on hook.
The main bearing loads the whole weight of drilling bar in the shell,
and at upper and lower part of shell, there are support and lower shell.
There is one righting bearing and two oil seals inside the support,
the two oil seals are mounted at opposite directions to prevent oil leaking
in the shell and outer mud and other dirty things. A screw bolt is on the
outside of the support and it is used to mount a oil scale plate which
has a folding angle hole, when there is air pressure inside the shell of
swivel, it will run out automatically, oil can be poured into the shell
of swivel after screw off the oil scale plate. Gooseneck is fixed on the
flange of support top. Gooseneck is connected with disk bearing and
another one with the water band by going through the inside screw joint.
There is a righting bearing in the shell of the swivel, at the lower

part, there are three oil seals and one blocking ring. Two oil seals are
located at the upper part of the blocking ring, one oil seal is located
at the lower part. All the lips of oil seals are facing up so that the
oil in shell can be sealed.
Central pipe is a part cored pipe, its upper end is connected with
the disk facing, lower end with joint, central part is mounted on the main
bearing and depends on the support and bearing cap to make it right and
locate. By adjusting cushions number between support and shell, we may
control axial motion of central pipe. Upper end of central pipe has rubber
umbrella, it is mounted to prevent mud.
Disk bearing is connected between the central pipe and the gooseneck
by upper and lower nuts, and created a pass way for mud. Disk bearing is
an important part to seal the mud under high pressure, so it has
self-sealing and fast loading and unloading system.

IV. Preparation Before Use

Swivel SL225 has been tested for tension, intensity of water pressure,
sealof water pressure, rotation before it is delivered from the
factory. There is no oil inside the shell of the swivel. So the
following must be done before use:
(1) Remove the oil scale plate, fill it with 90# sulfur-phosphor type
EP gear oil up the maximum scale on the plate, also make sure the
oil is clean.
(2) Check the central pipe, then one person press on the handle of
the chain with 400KN·m power, rotates equally.
(3) Lubricate oil cups with grease gun.
(4) Check the upper and lower nuts of the disk bearing, water band,
the joint nuts of the gooseneck pipe, the joints of the central
pipe are tightened or not.
(5)

V. Lubrication

1. Oil location in the shell of swivel must be checked once each shift,
to know whether it is at the location demanded (The oil location can't
be lower than the lowest graduation of oil scale plate). Grease must be
changed every two months. For new or repaired swivel, change grease after
usage of 200 hours, clean all dirty grease when changing grease.
2. Pin of elevator link, disk bearing, oil seals in the support, oil

seals inside the lower shell and others must be filled by (SY1412-75) #2
lithium grease once every shift. Filling grease to disk bearing must be
under the situation when there isn't pump pressure, so that grease can
be filled into every location of disk bearing.

VI. Change of Disk Facing

When the punching pipe and the disk bearing are need to be changed, just loose the upper
and lower threads, and take out the whole disk facing from one side of the support, no other parts
are needed to be taken off.

VII. Maintenance

1. Disassembling work is done as following:

(1) Swivel must be set upright when disassembling.
(2) Screw off the thread and discharge oil.
(3) Uninstall the disk bearing.
(4) Take off the rubber umbrella on the central pipe.
(5) Uninstall gooseneck and outer ring of the support, oil seal is
taken out from the support.
(6) Uninstall central pipe, upper race of main bearing, inside ring
of upper and lower righting bearing, lower bush and so on.
(7) Take out holding bridge of main bearing, lower race and pin roller
from the shell.
(8) Uninstall lower oil disk bearing box, and take out the outer ring
of lower righting bearing.
(9) Uninstall lower bearing cap, take out the oil seal, caulking ring
and so on.
2. Checking and changing parts
(1) Suggest that new oil seal and O type seal ring are changed when
disassembling swivel to check.
(2) Check all the bearings and ensure whether there are crashed,
damaged, corrosion and cracked, especially if main bearing is
found to exist any defect, they must be changed in time so that
we can assure their good performance. Upper and lower races of
the bearings can't be changed each other. For fitting well with
central pipe, when upper race of the main bearing is disassembled
we usually knock the race off central pipe.
3. Remounting
Before remounting, we must clean all the new parts and changed
parts, grease the bearings, oil seal, and the O type ring, etc.

(1) Mount oil seal, caulking ring and outer ring of anti-bouncer
bearing into support.
(2) Mount lower race of main bearing, pin roller and holding bridge
into the shell of swivel.
(3) Mount central pipe with upper race of main bearing and righting
bearing into shell of swivel, slightly rotate the central pipe,
to make sure the main bearing is steady.
(4) Mount oil seal into the lower end of the shell of swivel and mount
pressure cap and screw bolt tightly.
(5) Mount support on the shell of rotary swivel, check bearing
movement capacity of central pipe, adjust quantity of cushions,
screw bolt tightly, and axial movement capacity of central pipe
is controlled in 0.05-0.15mm after screwing connection belt
tightly.
(6) Mount rubber umbrella, gooseneck, disk facing, joint and so on.

VIII. Examination and Adjustment

Checking and adjusting is an important link in the course of

remounting. Goodness and badness of adjusting quality will directly
affect usage life of parts. We suggest to check and adjust as the
following procedures:
1. Check bonding degrees the end face of upper race of main bearing
with the end face of central pipe, and 0.03mm plug gage can't pass
in max clearance.
2. Check circular run out of the following locations against central
pipe with hundreds dial.
(1) Check up hole of support and circular run out capacity isn't
larger than 0.20mm.
(2) Check diameter of end face of gooseneck and circular run out
capacity isn't larger than 0.20mm.
(3) Check outer diameter of punching pipe and circular run out isn't
larger than 0.30mm.If circular run out capacity exceeds ranges
above, we may loosen the nuts of upper and lower disk facing boxes
and lightly knock at water filling pipe so that we can assure
circular run out capacity is in the range stipulated and make
disk facing unit to work under the best work condition.

Fix the swivel on a pricing stand. The joint of gooseneck and the
joints of other pipes are packed by plastic cloth or stop up them with
wooden blocks. Joints must be protected.
