1. Why didn’t Paul tell the police that he had found the necklace?
because he assumed that the police would think that he was the one who stole the
necklace
2. Why was the treasure chest a good hiding place? Give two reasons.
reason number 1 is that the chest was full of fake jewelry and no one would think
that there would be a real jewel the second reason is that it was not easy to notice
it among so many jewels
3. Why does Paul think that the thief hid the necklace before the alarm
went off? Give two reasons.
Paul was making a lot of noise cutting a piece of wood with an electric saw in the
room. And Paul thinks a thief took advantage of the noise to hide the collar before
the alarm sounded.
And Anna didn't even notice either, as she was drinking coffee.
4. Why might Anna be the thief? Give four reasons.
Anna could be the thief because he stopped inspector Tod's investigation when he
was detailing the exhibits telling him that the paint was wet for this reason he did
not verify it well. He also told Paul not to paint the wall behind the pirate screen,
and Paul thought he said it so he couldn't find the necklace
5. What might be Mr. Yardley’s motive for stealing the necklace?
He needed money because his business wasn't working very well.
6. Did Mr. Yardley have the opportunity to steal the necklace? Why?
It's true because he said he came to visit Anna, but nobody saw him climb the
stairs. It could be said that he walked through the room where the necklace was
and left the newspaper he always wore. But he probably bought an additional
newspaper the previous day.
7. Why does Paul decide that he has to find out quickly who the thief
is?
The thief was someone who knew the pirate's treasure before the theft, because
the thief was someone from the museum and knew where he would find the
necklace. By the way Paul believes that the thief could come back for the necklace
at any time. Because Paul had to find out as soon as possible who the thief was.
