I-Search Plan
Step 1- Research Topic Proposal
● Describe your research topic
● What brought about your proposed topic?
● What is your overarching research question?
● What have you assumed about your topic/participants?
● What do you hope to learn?
● What is the value/significance of your topic for the academic and/or
business world?

Step 2- List Sub Questions/ Topics: Develop a list of additional questions or sub
topics you should explore to find answers to your proposed research question.
These should be a mix of questions that investigate pure research (to build
knowledge-base) and applied research (data you’ll collect yourself)

Step 3: Subtopics Pick your 4 most important subtopics from above that you will
research. Consider the best organization to build from gaining base knowledge
