Hidden Behind the Glass

On Monday, the mirror showed a newborn

Embraced by two loving souls,

Who adored the baby,

And whom the baby adored.

On Tuesday, the mirror showed a toddler

Building a lopsided snowman

That seemed perfect

For winter was his favorite time of the year.

On Wednesday, the mirror showed a child,

Deeply in love with nature;

He ran through empty dandelions,

Which filled him with joy.

On Thursday, the mirror showed a youngster

Overflowing with angst;

His secret world had been invaded,

And outsiders began stamping him with judgment.

On Friday, the mirror showed a teenager

Desiring to receive happy treasures from clouds,

Behind the barrier of a window;

His friends saw an unwelcoming arena.

On Saturday, the mirror showed a young adult

Studying to become a lawyer,

While craving to tend to the plants of the universe;

Something he knew real men didn’t do.

On Sunday, the mirror showed an adult

Whose shoulders housed success and fame;

Yet even surrounded by friends,

He was as lonely as ever.

The following Monday, the mirror did not show anything;

The adult finally took control of its images,

So he could see the man hidden behind the glass.
