COULD YOU NOT TARRY ONE HOUR?

by Larry Lea

The book begins by highlighting how by ignorance of supernatural events we neglect to fortify ourselves
with prayer. Jesus Christ asked His disciples to pray one hour with Him as He prepared Himself for the
imminent betrayal and its culmination on the cross. As Christians we win our battles in prayer as
demonstrated by the amount of time our Lord Jesus spent in prayer. Every major event in His ministry is
preceded by prayer. This is a cue we must take if we hope to prevail against the devices of the devil. Yet
sadly even today Christians find it hard to stay in prayer.

We are exhorted to pray without ceasing and as Christians we owe it to ourselves to pray for at least an
hour every single day. This book teaches us how to use the Lord’s prayer as an outline of the type of
prayers we are to offer to the Father and have Him hear and answer our prayers every time.

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.

We must start with praise exalting Him as we extoll His names. We claim a personal relationship with
Him as we acknowledge Him for who He is and what He has done and continues to do in our lives. We
sanctify God by the example of our righteous lives, as well as by our words of praise and adoration.

Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven.

Because we know things start in the spiritual first before they manifest in the physical and that God’s
will is for us to prosper and be in good health. We call for His will to be done here on earth as in heaven.
We are submitting to God and calling for Him to do as he will in or through us, our families, church,
nations etc.

Give us this day our daily bread.

This is where we ask God for His provision in every area of our lives. We must be specific and tenacious
in our requests in order to appropriate God's provision. Remember we must stay in God‘s will believing
it is His will to prosper us. This is how Jesus taught us to expect and experience God's provision.

And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us.

Part of the process of spiritual growth is learning to forgive one another because our relationship to our
fellowmen affects our relationship to God. God will not extend mercy to those who refuse to forgive as
His word expressly tells us that the same measure we forgive will be the same measure used against us.
So we must learn to forgive always and fully. Forgiveness is part of love. Remember forgiveness is a
choice.

And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

This calls us to put on the whole armor of God daily by praying Ephesians 6:14-17 daily. We put on our
armor by believing and confessing God's promises. Refuse to let Satan delay or destroy God's purpose
for your life!

For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
We end with praise and worship, praising God the Father who delivered us from the power of darkness
and translated us into His kingdom of love and light. Make the faith declarations. God our Father has
made us participants in His power. He gives strength and power to His people and gives us power to get
wealth. He gives power to the weak and keeps us by His power. God our Father, who raised up Jesus,
will raise us up by His mighty power. This power is available to us for He has invited us to participate in
His power. We are also participants in His glory ie His righteousness, the manifested perfection of His
character. Praise and thank Him for all this.

This book teaches how to ensure that your prayers are effective and always get heaven’s attention. I
particularly like the detailed prayer outlines and practical applications with examples of the results of
implementation in daily living. Applying the principles elevates you into a realm of praying without
ceasing and manifestation of the supernatural in your life.
