INSTRUCTIONS
Read the essay prompt and take a position. Then, write the persuasive
essay outline using the template. In the introduction, please highlight the
hook, transition/background and thesis. The checklists will help the
group self-evaluation of each part.
ESSAY PROMPT
Ecuadorian undergraduate students must pay for their education. Do you agree
or disagree? Take a stand and provide evidence to support it.
As is known, in the years prior to 2007, students whose families could not cover the
cost of tuition during the university day were totally excluded from the educational
system. The new legal framework allowed the National Government to recover free
public education by eliminating enrollment and providing resources to eliminate barriers
to access to education. With these exposed antecedents, we do not agree that
Ecuadorian undergraduate students should pay for their education and this due to that
higher education must be guaranteed by the government, because of the right to higher
education declared in the constitution, and because of the global and national
development that it implies.

SUPPORTING IDEA 1:
Access to education must be a tool that allows generating spaces of inclusion for
undergraduate students in Ecuador.
DETAILS
Starting from education and in any context, spaces must be generated that include all
citizens. In this sense, the evaluation constitutes a curricular element that can serve for
this purpose or to exclude.
SUPPORTING IDEA 2:
DETAILS:
The results of standardized tests for measuring university performance are a risky
scenario from the point of view of the process of acceptance or rejection of the diversity
and plurality of the human being.
SUPPORTING IDEA 3:
DETAILS:
Article 356 of the Constitution of the Republic, among other principles, establishes that
third-level public higher education will be free, and that this free education is linked to
the academic responsibility of the students.
As a summary of the aforementioned, access to free education, the spaces that are
generated by being part of the third level educational system and the legal regulations
must be protected and guaranteed by the Ecuadorian State.

Higher education was established as a right for everyone.

Thus, achieving equality in this aspect as well.
SUPPORTING IDEA 2:
Equitable access to higher education for all will be achieved.
DETAILS:
There has been a long struggle for equality and equity, and applying it in this area is
also an advance for society.
SUPPORTING IDEA 3:
Develops social and cultural integration skills.
DETAIL:
By not being restricted by any type of classification, the integration of different cultures
at the country level would be achieved, allowing for greater adaptation.

TOPIC SENTENCE:
Access to higher education for all will enable global and national progress.
SUPPORTING IDEA 1:
Higher education achieves social improvement.
SUPPORTING IDEA 2:
In addition to achieving a country's economic growth.
DETAILS:
Having access to education will result in more people able to generate employment,
and even apply for jobs and repay the benefits they obtained with the country.
SUPPORTING IDEA 3:
Having unrestricted access even leads to health development.
DETAIL:
Physicians are prepared to develop technologies with the purpose of discovering cures
for diseases over time.
