Today, millions of people want to learn or improve their English but it's difficult to find the best
method. Is it better to study abroad or in your own country?
The advantages of studying in an English-speaking country seem obvious. First, you'll be able to
hear the language all the time you're in the country. You'll be surrounded completely by the language
wherever you go. Another advantage is you have to speak the language if you are with others. In Italy – a
country whose official language is not English – for example, it's always possible, in an English class, to
speak Italian if you want to and as a result, the learning is slower.(24)
On the other hand, there are also advantages to staying in your motherland to study. You don't have
to make big changes to your life. As well as this, it's also a lot cheaper than studying overseas(28), although
it'll be much harder to achieve the same results as living in Britain or the United States. If you have a good
teacher in your local area, however, you can always learn in a concentrated way with him or her rather than
being in another country without going to any language school.(26)
In conclusion, if you have enough time and money, the best choice is to spend some time with a
native community. This is simply not possible for people who can’t spend a fortune (much money) on
studying overseas, so practising English in their homeland is the only viable option. The most important
thing to do in this situation is to maximize your opportunities: to speak only English in class and to try to use
English whenever possible.

23. Speaking languages other than (khác) English when being with native English speakers is not
advisable. TRUE
24. English students outside Britain can never speak their mother tongue (tiếng mẹ đẻ) in their English
classes. FALSE
25. People who don't have a lot of money should go to Italy to study English. FALSE
26. A person can never be good at English if they live in a non-English speaking country. FALSE
27. What is the article mainly about?
A. How many people study English nowadays.
B. Different ways to improve English.
C. English schools in England and America.
D. The advantages of studying English abroad.
28. It can be inferred from the passage that:
A. English teachers are always better in English-speaking countries than other countries.
